Newbie Trying to pick a resort in Mexico
peterpanpixiedust replied to Sweetbrooke32's topic in Newbies!!
Congrats, I'm pretty new too. Also trying to pick dreams. It's hard to narrow it down two one. One has such a pretty gazebo, one has the bluest water, one has an amazing beach, etc, etc. But ALL seem to have one thing in common, Great Weddings! -
Yay! Congrats!

Welcome and happy planning!

Welcome, it's so nice here because you can see info from brides who've been married at the place you want!

Nice, I'm not sure how I got directed, either I did a yahoo search or it was the Knot! This forum is awesome!

Hi, congrats and welcome!

Wow, and I thought I had a lot of work. Hey, more time to make everything perfect!
-
Awesome! Good luck and have fun!

Congrats girl! Wow, you are so lucky to get to travel for work!

I'm from the Chicago area too! I think you are going to be addicted to this site! So far I've looked at Dreams and Secrets resorts and they both look very nice as well as all inclusive. There are also little boutique resorts and so much more, I would browse around the forum for a while! Good luck and have fun!

Congrats! It's so exciting isn't it!

My first Siggy challenge... let's see if it works. Engaged, and no pics yet, but this was a sexy pic from before!

Wow, love the quirkiness of your bridesmaids... I will take note of that for when I cry. Thanks for the tip on makeup... I too am picky. Did you end up doing your own? And one more weird question... I obviously don't follow the Hills, but were they seriously there during your wedding?!?! Or was that just a joke, or was it the same day somewhere else?

little by little, no one is coming ... i give up!

I'm not sure about the Catholic requierements though (i think you'd have to get married here first although the wedding in Cancun would be symbolic so the Church wouldn't recognize it anyway, but it might be weird to have your "real" ceremony there and come back and do a catholic one here?). there is a thread on here about getting married in the state first and then doing a symbolic ceremony in MX, lots of different opinions on that one. so its really up to you. like i said before our main concern was the documents and the time requierement (especially since we want to stay a week after for the HM and we're on a tight buget)! good luck and ask away...we all benefit Thank you so much. Well I think we might have a private ceremony in the church after (that way it won't be weird, because it would just be us). I thought about before, but I want to wear my dress to both (I'm sure I'll pay enough to be worth two times, but I don't want to mess it up before the Cancun ceremony with the photography. I'm in the same boat as you, we have a tight budget but want to stay at least a week after. You actually have to be there FIVE days b4 w/ legal. 4 full business days and the day your arrive does not count! Do you know if the day you arrive counts for symbolic? Meaning, do you arrive 2 or 3 days before?

i think it's working now! thanks! I still can't click on ppl's profiles, including my own. And I see nothing that says I shouldn't. The only thing I shouldn't be able to do is download attachments. But a profile link isn't an attachment, is it? -
What type of clothes are you ladies wearing for your honeymoons? Dresses, casual, or just sitting around in your swimsuits all day long soaking up the sun? I want to look gorgeous every day of my honeymoon. I like those knee length and cascading hemline sun dresses that are made of very flowy material (and it's a perk because it won't wrinkle as much on the plane). Do any of you girls know of a place that sells those kinds of dresses for reasonable prices? When ever I look for sundresses, I find cotton and everything always seems "fashion forward." I want to look sexy, and sometimes what's fashionable now is just not my style. I like things that hug my curves, and non restrictive fabrics, like chiffon (but chiffon I'm sure can be expensive, so I don't mind the knock off fabrics either) and the stretchy flowy polyester blends. Ooh, and does anyone know of a company that custom makes bikinis? My bum is huge and my chest is small-medium and even if I switch sizes, I can never find bottoms wide enough for me without going granny! LOL. Thanks Ladies!

YAY! Claudia finally answered my request; my first official correspondence with her!!!! I know it may sound so silly, but even the little milestones (actually this is one of my first) make life happy. And I've had a crappy week. My job that is stressful enough just lost a receptionist after the holidays; her replacement lasted two weeks and quit via text msg that Sun night (our week starts monday), and her replacement no-showed after 1 day (technically 2 but she called off the first). That same day (which btw was yesterday) our other receptionist walked out!!! And today I ended up in a ditch! Sorry for the vent... back to Claudia. She wants to know if I want legal or religious. I really want religious and I guess I originally thought that could be legal too (with the right papers). So... do I just go with the legal so it's all done with, or do I go with religious and do all the paperwork here? Has anyone done that, and if so is it pretty easy? Another question.. has anyone gotten married Catholic at home and if so did they do it before or after Cancun? Afterwords would be a convalidation (or maybe not since it isn't legal) Sorry for all the questions... I'm such a newb!

We made up our own playlist the night before we left for Cancun and we ended up having plenty of songs left over. Just be sure to have the important ones on a separate playlist (processional, march, recessional, first dance, etc) so it's easy for the technician to locate. For the reception, he just let the playlist go but you can request to change the order of the playlist. He was very good. The only difference I can see in having just the sound system vs a DJ is that you would need to find someone to MC the evening. You can also get a light up dance floor without a DJ, but it does cost extra. Though I didn't end up having my reception on the beach (due to weather), the sound system was definitely loud enough. Good luck! Let me know if you need anything else. I'm so sorry that you didn't have the beach reception. I bet everything was still awesome. Did they let you get away with the gazebo ceremony at least, or did you have somewhere else orignally planned (i.e. pool, terrace, beach)

So, did a search and I'm seeing alot of people give their take on outside vendors, but from 2008 and earlier. I was wondering if anyone can help me with more recent news. I want to use an outside photographer, but I've seen people say no. However, what if he is one of my guests? Can they stop my guest from taking photos? He did my friends wedding here in the states, and he does amazing work, and this is the only thing I want absolute control on. I would be paying to fly him in, and I would pay for his room for the night, and he would be one of my 20 guests. I was going to have him shoot my bridal pics in my hotel room (while I touch up my hair and makeup and get into my gown), and then have him come down with me. Couldn't I just say that he's my cousin or something? I would ask my WC, but I contacted them a while ago (the form says they will get back within 2 buisness days... HA!) and still no reply... grrrr, so techinically I don't have a WC.
