  1. awww don't say that! i couldn't have done it without the inspiration of the ladies here! i'm just returning the favour =) happy planning~~~~
  2. thanks heather! i know! much cheaper to DIY =) but so easy to get addicted! i have been trying to think of a way to keep them from blowing away. i thought about making some sort of bottom for them, but glue and tape, etc. will show through....hmmm a glass or a cup inside would be a good idea. going hit up a dollar giant or something and see what sort of glass, tealight holder or plastic cup might work. thanks! ....another day closer!
  3. thanks! looks like your date exactly 2 months after mine! like JoZee mentioned, try the Real it's supposed to be other the other side of the Royal, not far and I was also told they're considered a Real guest so you pay the lower price for dinner + etc. Not sure in terms of day pass though, so you might want to check on that part. yes, it sure does seem like the big to-do list just keeps growing while the budget keeps on shrinking. we all thought a destination wedding would be "easier and cheaper", when compared to certain venues and whatnot for an in-town wedding it is cheaper, but it's definately not easier. People are like "what do you have to be stressed about? You just having a destination wedding. (then I roll my eyes) because they don't know what they're talking about. sending out invites sure makes it seem more "real" huh? 4 months will pass by in a flash, enjoy it! happy planning~~~
  4. i love your menu! they're so cute! i have to work on mine too. Just not sure if i want to do a frame or individual. they look fantastic! suit looks good too - studiosuits? still waiting for Fi's....hopefully any day now because GM shirts are in the same order. wow!!! sexy! your FI's going to be blown away =)
  5. while cleaning up, i realized I had forgotten about a bag with a couple of other items. (it turns out, i am a DIY-a-holic). LOL i don't know what I'm going to do with myself after the wedding when I have not reason to DIY like crazy! photoshare cards - printed them on cardstock purchased from staples. then spent an evening cutting them with my friskars trimmer - ugh, i tried to cut them with the big ccutter at work and they turned out all crooked since the cutter's guides have all rubbed off. luggage tags - i didn't want to fuss with personalizing everyone's info and figure they wouldn't use it again, so i did up some business cards on vistaprint and put "Can You Read This? Then you're too close to my bag" on the front, with the resort's address. Then put a label on the back with the person's name on it. i used the laminator at work with heat seal luggage tags i bought from staples. engagement photos album for parents - both our parents are not good with computers and hate clicking on a screen. so after reading http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/wiki/how-to-make-a-wedding-photo-book i started to follow photobook girl's blog. i've always been into scrapbooking so a photobook is like scrapbooking of the digital-kind. on her blog she posted an area for "free" photobooks http://www.photobookgirl.com/blog/free-photo-books-online-gotta-love-it/. i went with MyPublisher's offer $20 gift card to new customers and purchased 2 softcover 5x7 books and just paid for shipping. Super easy program to use and shipping was really fast too. I think they came out great. I am thinking I might do my own BD shoot album on my own. Pashmina Tags - I haven't received them, but have prepared the template already. I hate waiting for online items to arrive, lol. Not very patient. I did the tags in Illustrator, and attached the PDF, but also attached a powerpoint version in case anyone needs a starting point to work from. pashmina.ppt
  6. and congrats! happy planning! lots of canadian gals here, yay~
  7. we have 19 including us, 8 of which are in the wedding party making 10 up front and 9 guests sitting. i thought it might be odd too (more people standing in front than guests sitting) but thought it would be weirder to select a few to sit down "to fill things up" lol. it's your day. do what makes you happy, you'll be too busy looking at each other, your guests will be looking at the two of you. everyone will be so wrapped up in the moment it won't matter. =)
  8. when i was looking at him, he said he can drop off just outside the hotel or at the lobby. cash only. then my WC said if the resort staff don't need to help with setting anything up, there's no charge. however, there are a few different variations about this sort of thing floating about this sort of thing so it's best to verify with your WC - juuust in case.
  9. thanks! that's great, glad i could help! remember to show & tell =)
  10. thanks! the bouquets are my favourite too. the sticks are for drinks at the reception. lol, FI says it was just an excuse for me to use my die cutting machine - Big Shot =P (kinda was)
  11. i go for my first fitting this Friday - 25th! Can't wait to try my dress on again! i don't trust myself to look at it at home LOL i might be tempted try it on again but can't lace it up myself. i just finished the majority of my DIY projects!!!!! just a few more little things to make but it think i've gone DIY crazy. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/70972/rosieposie-s-diy-athon-with-pix/10#post_1568879 we're still waiting for FI's suit to come in from studiosuits with GM's shirts as well. he's picked up his AHR tux from alteration, but needs a shirt....and found doesn't like the pants anymore =( leaving next thursday for bachlorette party in vegas! can't wait, could definately use the escape. hope everyone's planning is coming along~~~~~
  12. i love etsy but sometimes you just figure - "hey, i can do that"! here's the info on some of the satin flowers the bigger ones (used beads and crystals instead of broaches): http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/63487/finally-finished-my-diy-fabric-flowers-bouquet the round ones: (instead of gluing each layer onto each other, i stacked them together and sewed it together with a few stitches) http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2010/08/blog-post.html to put stems on, i kind of made up my own way by cuting felt circles for the base and stabbing the floral wire through, then hot gluing it all together....if that makes any sense. let me know if you have any questions. =)
  13. thanks =) lol, when budget is limited, gotta DIY. people these days huh?!? no respect, rude. lol, it makes me laugh everytime when i think he thinks he's afraid he might get kidnapped. i hate wasting things, let alone wasting money! sorry to hear about your FI's sister - that's a bit sneaky to go direct to the TA. but we're all going to have fabulous wedding, so much fun and they're going to regret what their actions. we're doing the ipod, as much fun and wonderful as the DJ and light-up dance floor would be, we can't justify the cost based on the amount of people we have. in the beginning it seemed like we would have around 30, but as "reality set in" we had 20 booked (,inus 1 more now) so i'm glad we decided to stick with the ipod. i'll probably pick up some glow things just to add soem "fun". thanks! lol i think i may have gone overboard on those matchbooks.
  14. hard time sleeping thinking about all this wedding stuff....ugh, and i've probably got a long monday ahead. but thought i'd finally gather my diy projects and share them since i got these ideas from the ladies of BDW. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/70972/rosieposie-s-diy-athon-with-pix#post_1568444 look at them makes me happy, i think DIY projects have been keeping me from freaking out over all the little things because being focused keeps my mind from wandering. lol, FI thinks i went overboard. oh well.
  15. can't sleep so i've been lurking around here, so thought i'd share in my DIY-ing! finally collected most the projects i've done over the past months. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/70972/rosieposie-s-diy-athon-with-pix#post_1568444
  16. as i near the end of my months of DIY-ing, i thought I would take some time to share the things i've made for my wedding. i can't thank the talented ladies on here enough for all the ideas and inspirations. i wouldn't have even thought of many of these items if it weren't for you. lol, it's also what started the madness! templates - i attached a couple of the templates that i used, mint matchbook, brochure and tears of joy packets (removed personalization but because i worked with adobe illustrator for most of the electronic things i covered it to a pdf but unless you have one of the prof. programs you can't edit it). hopefully it helps some people. bridesmaid bouquets - after going back and forth about parasols, resort's flowers, real touch, etc.etc. i found some really cute satin flower bouquets on esty. because they're too expensive w/ cost of shipping to canada i decided to atempt my own. i googled some instructions and even found some instructions here on BDW. stir sticks - once again, eyeing something on etsy that i thought i could attempt myself. i picked up a bag of wooden stir sticks from the dollar store, picked some cardstock out of my scrapbooking bin then armed with my Big Shot & hot glue gun, I went to work. mint / candy matchbooks - saw some ladies post some here on BDW and borrowed the idea. did 2 kind - tropical for the DW and chinese for my AHR reception. i've included the template. they're pretty easy to do. just cut into 2" x 6" strips. thank you, shoes optional and mr. & mrs. signs - this is getting embarrassing, but again i saw some "shabby / cottage" signs on etsy and decided to atempt my own. i just picked up a crackle paint kit from michaels (with coupon of course) and acrylic paint and wood pieces from the dollar store and michaels. i printed the letters out on card stock, cut them out and traced them on to the wood after doing the crackle process. the thank you signs are photo ops for our thank you cards after the wedding. i still have to nail the base to the mr. & mrs. so will sit on our sweetheart table and i've gotta see how i'd want to stand the shoe sign. luminaire / centerpieces - i wanted some sort of luminaire so bought a pack of vellum from staples, printed them with the same design as my invites. bringing some double-sided tape with me. bought some flickering battery operated tea lights from dollar store. will probably add some decorate stones or something around them. i don't want to bring too much stuff down there. tears of joy packets - i saw some ladies here make them but i didn't need so many of the glassine envelopes sold on ebay so with the leftover vellum, i printed the pattern i wanted and cut it in 1/2 (originally 8.5 x 11), glued the edges with a glue roller and put a couple of pieces of a kleenex packet into it. pre-travel brouchure - i never even thought about sending something like this out until i found BDW! it makes perfect sense to send out info but i never thought of a brochure-type format. vow cards - i saw a fellow BDW bride made vow cards and loved the idea. since i had the same machine(s), i figure why not? AHR card box - after seeing the boxes available at michaels and the beautiful but out of my budget boxes on etsy i decided to once again take it upon myself to make one. i went to the fabric store, picked up some satin and some jewel embelishments. to decorate, i made some more of those satin flowers. photobooth props - i'll be having a photobooth type area at my AHR and wanted some props. one of which i really wanted were mustaches. i found some online that can be stuck on you face. i put one pack on to hard cardboard backing and sewer sticks, and left the other in case some people wanted it taped to their face. this week i'll make some bow ties an ties out of felt. i'll be rummaging around for other props. dollar store (again) here i come! sand ceremony frame - i knew i wanted to have a sand ceremony and really liked the idea of incorporating it with a picture frame. i searched for specific sand ceremony frames and didn't really find anything on the market. many BDW ladies here mentioned something about gluing one together so after some reading through the pages here, I ordered a frame and flora bond on amazon. i still have to figure out how much sand will actually fill it but need to get myself a good funnel first and don't have a pic but here are the instructions i followed, they're very clear on how to do it. http://forums.weddingbells.ca/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1733695&page=1 that's it for now. hopefully this helps give someone some new ideas! there'll probably be more little knick-knacks in the next couple of weeks but i think these are the big things. happy planning~~~ matchbooks.ppt
  17. violagirl - yay! 2 months! i thought about getting something like a white sundress for going out after. spring season clothes are starting to come out so it's a good time to look. i'm not really doing oot bags, just a couple of knick knacks for the bridesmaids so i figure i'll pack them together beforehand. sounds like you've got lots checked off the list. my FI is also concerned the reception won't be fun since we have a small group - there are 19 of us total, but i think it'll be more intimate. maybe JHarris - your photos are amazing! i can't believe those flowers didn't come from a fancy florist! ------ FI's cousin cancelled as out 3 days before TA had to close up our reservations. i had a rough time trying to see if anyone wanted to fill in for them but no luck. so their roommate is stuck paying single occupancy. which they weren't happy about of course. so FI and I got stuck with paying the $300+ difference because it's not the other person's fault that he cancelled. had some drama over the money but since his cousin is out of town at the moment we don't even know if he'll repay that back. but it had to be done, this person wasn't thrilled about being in a triple occ. room. geez, when FI's cousin first booked he was all "you know, i'm doing you a favour by going because you didn't have enough ppl for a room" but no, we didn't really need him thankyouverymuch. he caused more grief than anything with spreading his irrational fear of getting kidnapped (what makes him so special?!) glad he's not coming. lol, is that mean?
  18. looks like there are more and more 2012 brides here! didn't seem that long ago that "the big day" seemed so far away....... wow, looks like there's a big chance i'll see a couple of you there! Maybe even catch a glimps of your receptions (i arrive in the evening). it's getting closer and closer!!! i'm freaking out a bit trying to arrange tie up lose ends for both my pre-wedding AHR and things with the resort. a couple more DIY projects to wrap up....Can't wait to head to vegas for my bachlorette party at the end of the month - definately need to loosen up. happy planning ladies~
  19. glad you dress has come in Heidi82, having it really makes things feel more real!!! =), re ha yay! i just booked my BD session for April 9. uugh more bootcamp for me.....
  20. We arrive on the 19th in the evening! Maybe I'll catch a glimps of your reception! Looks like we're very similar. We have about 20 people going too, and decided on a private reception (lol, also due to the reviews and all here) and going with an ipod instead of a DJ. As long as you have playlists set up and label certain songs for certain times (if you want) i've head they do a great job. =) YES!!! i had 4 guys totally "freak out" over all the recent news. 2 of which have now paid in full and booked their flights, after a lot of contemplating - lol, they said they'll stay inside the resort the entire time (we'll see). 1 shortened the length of his stay (which I didn't find out about until I suddenly received a flight itinerary) so then his roommate is left paying single occupancy for the remaider of the 2 nights (so since it's my FI's close friend, he decided to foot the difference). THEN the last person - really really worried about getting kidnapped in mexico (what makes him so special, right?) and cannot fly via the US due to his immigration status or something, but doesn' t want to fly via Toronto. There aren't any direct or return flights coming home through Calgary unless we adjust days. I've had it with this person and rather him not come at all then. On the other hand, if he doesn't come then his roommate is screwed and stuck paying single occ, which since it's FI's cousin - no doubt FI will pick up the slack on that too. final payment is due soon and this person has been vacationing in asia the past few weeks. so is he coming? is he not? sorry, i know it sounds selfish and b*tchy, but these people just make me crazy. lol, i hope my sanity can be regained after the wedding.....i hate feeling like jittery crazy lady!! Luckily we hadn't bought the guys suits yet. I'm more upset at the fact that we called them about something else and then they were being weird on the phone and after teeth pulling - they told us. I wonder if and when they were planning on telling us. ggrrr...... Anyway - did any past brides pick the trio or quintet to play during cocktails? In the package it says Mexican Trio - is that the same thing as Mariachi?
  21. love etsy!! that's a very cute necklace, thanks for idea on a little something for bridesmaids =)
  22. Cute box nicyx! i've been procracinating on doing mine but you've inspired me to get this box going! i did finish printing and cutting my photo share cards this weekend.....
