Hey there --- I also wanted a private location - mostly because I didn't like the idea of several weddings going on at once in the same place (since sunset seems to be a popular time). I looked at quite a few, and they do get very expensive.. I looked into locations on the West side of the island. I ended up chosing Meriman's - Kapalua. My wedding will have around 40 - so I chose the grassy area there. It's $500 for the site fee. I also considered the Sea House -- you could do the site there & reception set up outside just for your party with a site fee of about the same (I can't remember but around $500 or $600). I liked that idea because it's private and they set up the whole reception for you. We ended up wanting to go somewhere else for the reception and went with Meriman's for the ceremony. There are several other places -- we just didn't really want to spend a lot on an expensive site fee. Your wedding planner will have LOTS of ideas, I'm sure. I went with Deanne at Precious Maui Weddings. She is very nice to work with and very reasonably priced. My cousin went with Lewana at I Do Maui Weddings and really liked working with her. She had lots of ideas. Good Luck!

My fiance and I are looking into renting a timeshare. It seems like the cheapest way to go. Actually some of my family already owns timeshare property at Sands of Kahana - so my guests are all renting timeshare rooms there as well so we're all together. Even if you wanted to stay somewhere like the Marriott, it is cheaper to rent through someone's timeshare than book online (such as their website or Orbitz). I would like to hear other people's opinions as well though - we are looking at what to do for our second week when it is just the two of us...

I am getting married in Maui this coming June. Chairs aren't even allowed on most beaches there anymore (lots of rules changed recently). But my wedding coordinator said that lots of brides had chose not to have chairs in the past because it's kind of fun to let people come barefoot and stand in the sand if you're going for the casual type wedding. She also said the average length wedding there is liek 12 minutes and it just isn't a big deal to have people standing. My cousin also got married in Maui about 4 years ago when chairs were allowed on all beaches. My aunt said that the chairs did sink.. And she said although the chairs are nice, it wasn't really necessary due to the short length of the ceremony. BUT, I'm like you and am skeptical about this. I chose to have a private location and I'm bringing in chairs

Thank you for the recommendations. Unfortunately, I need a location closer to Kaanapali Beach. My wedding will be at Kapalua Bay, and several of my guests are not renting cars while staying in Maui... Any other recommendations will definitely be appreciated! Thanks

Well... we still haven't decided or found exactly what we want in our price range, but I did find --> Some people had mentioned Hula Grill for their rehearsal dinner. We are considering them because they can hold 40, and their menu isn't ridiculous. It also seems very casual and fun. We don't really want anything fancy. We just want to have a good time and not spend a fortune. Same goes for Duke's restaurant, and we are looking into Kimo's as well. We are also considering a dinner cruise. Does anyone know anything about any of them?!?!?! It looks like Maui Princess is the most popular one, but the price is a little high for us. We are considering the QuickSilver.. we talked to the owner/manager, and he was very nice and helpful. He even said he would let the kids go for free But our wedding planner doesn't know anything about it.. The last thing we are looking into is a reception at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Does anyone know much about this? They set you up outside (where you can still see all of their entertainment) - it sounds very nice. They have 3 hours of entertainment, including an hour hula dancing show. The menu looks amazing (not cheap, but you get a lot for what you pay). We are a little skeptical because the price is adding up quickly. You must pay per hour to have a private bar, there is a set up fee, and the meals aren't cheap. And I think we're just going to have our rehearsal dinner at our timeshare - they are very flexible and have a room they can reserve for us. Sounds very casual and convenient for everyone since they are all staying in the same place. Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks

I've seen threads about recommendations for the Rehearsal Dinner or Reception Dinner.. But I have around 40 guests, and several of these places either don't have room for that many (without a buy-out), or have very expensive menus when your party is that large. Has anyone planned a dinner with this many guests? Any recommendations? Thanks!
