  1. Hi Everyone! I'm curious to hear if any of you are doing a wedding registry for gifts. Originally I was against the idea...I didn't want my guests to feel like they had to buy us a gift as well as pay to come to our wedding. Anyway it was brought up in conversation with my future father in-law (lol sorry I don't really know the abbreviations yet) and he thinks we should still have something. His point was that it could be for people that can't make it to the wedding, but still want to contribute. I see what he's saying, I'm just don't want to look greedy. Does anyone have any advice? If you had a registry how did you word it on the invite? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi Avens! I realize you posted this quite a while ago, but I'm also looking at the Barcelo Maya for next Feb/Mar 2012. I see that your prices are $1600 + taxes from Winnipeg for the Palace. Was there a significant drop if the guests decided to book at the Colonial or Tropical? I'll be having guests coming from Vancouver and Toronto so I'm curious to see if there's a big difference. Thanks so much!
  3. My mom's covering the dress. Originally I wasn't really sure, but she seems very excited to be part of the whole event
  4. Yes! I'm thinking of covering half just because the ones I really like are a little on the pricey side.
  5. Hey Lees! Congratulations! I haven't been to the Riviera Maya yet, but I'm also planning a wedding Feb/Mar 2012. The reason I replied is that I noticed you're in Vancouver - so am I ! I really like the Barcelo Maya, it's pretty huge (4 - 5 hotels within the hotel offering high, medium and low cost accommodations), beautiful beach/pools and from what I've heard the restaurants are good too. Good luck planning! Let me know what you end up deciding.
  6. Thanks bellajovie! It sounds like you're booking the hotel and flights separately. I'll need to look into that option as I think my TA is looking at package deals (which I think is common when flying from Canada). Which hotel did you book with?
  7. Hey everyone! I'm planning a wedding for Feb/Mar 2012 in Riviera Maya. At first I was thinking of doing a legal ceremony, but after reading about the paperwork, translations, arriving a certain # of days prior to the ceremony I'm having second thoughts. I'm now leaning towards a symbolic in Mexico and doing the legal ceremony just before we leave. Has anyone else done that? Did you tell your guests? Also, did you make it a big whoop-la or just have a couple of witnesses and a nice dinner? I'm in Vancouver, BC so if there's anyone from here let me know if you have any recommendations for marriage commissioners. Thanks so much!
  8. Oh that's great news! I'm looking to book the Barcelo for next Feb/Mar 2012 and I've been stressing over their photography rules. Phew, so glad you can just pay $300 or book a night
  9. Hey everyone! I'm in the mists of planning a Feb/Mar 2012 wedding in the Mayan Riviera. The hotels I'm looking at are the Barcelo Maya Colonial/Palace, Ocean Turquesa and Now Sapphire (so far my favourite is the Barcelo!). I've been getting a few quotes from travel agents and to be honest they're a lot higher than what's showing for 2011, mostly because the 2012 pricing haven't come out yet. They keep telling me to wait because they'll come down, but I'm worried about letting it linger for so long. I see that some of you have already booked for 2012 and I'm wondering if you've locked in a price or just booked a date? Are your guests booking already or have you asked them to wait? I'd really like to get my save the dates out asap, but I'd like to let people know the exact date instead of a time frame. Should I just book and hope that prices come down? Any advice would be awesome! Thanks so much!
