  1. SunQuest cannot impose any conditions. They do not have their own planes and just charter service through various carriers. They honor all rules in place by the carriers they rent space from. I'd go with a copy of the internet page and you should be okay.
  2. http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/travelInfo/baggageInformation/checkedAndExcessBaggage.shtml   Here's the link at Westjet to restrictions concerning Montego Bay. It allows 2 free checked bags and nothing further. What I'd suggest is that you print out this page and take it with you to the airport ... they will have to honor 2 bags as that's the information they have posted.
  3. This came up for us a little while ago when we were booking my daughter's wedding. Under most circumstances, West Jet allows two bags per person. However, during the European tourist season (I believe it is May through September), luggage is restricted to 1 bag as the Montego Bay airport is very small. Tourists from European origins generally arrive for stays of 1 month or more so are permitted more baggage. North American tourists stays are generally shorter ... thus we get the baggage restriction. There is a note posted on the West Jet website ... if I find the exact place, I'll post the link for you.
  4. My daughter's wedding is at the Riu Tropical Bay and they confirm that guests of the hotel are not subject to outside vendor fees. Only apply if you hire someone local (from outside the hotel), then come onto the property for the day and leave at the end of the wedding. Guests of the hotel who also happen to be taking pictures are also not subject to the same "restrictions" as outside vendors. For example, the hotel requests that outside vendors not be permitted inside hotel rooms ... kinda hard to get your pre-wedding preparation pictures if the person isn't allowed inside the room.
  5. Having been to Jamaica a few times, we found the things people appreciated the most (besides the Blue Mountain coffee) was towels. In Negril, at the beach market, you can buy a fullsize bath sheet for $6-$8. We thought they would be excellent favors for our guests.
  6. You are still allowed 2 checked items weighing 50 lbs each per person. Sounds like you have other people travelling with you. Are all those people going to use their luggage allowance? The luggage tag may not have your name on it when it gets on the plane but if it's travelling with your group, you can still keep an eye on it. If you're worried about a bag being lost, spread the items out over several suitcases (at least then you're guaranteed to have some). I'm sure you'll be able to make it work.
  7. Our wedding group is booked on Westjet for February. There are no unusual restrictions concerning luggage so I'm unclear to what you're referring specifically. We've been to Jamaica a number of times before. Packing should be relatively easy ... the weather is consistent (except for the possibility of hurricanes during that timeframe). 2 tanks, 2 shorts, swimsuit, a sweater, a windbreaker, 1 pr long pants (cotton, linen or zipoffs), perhaps a dress in case you want to go to the specialty restaurants, running shoes and sandals or flip flops. Clothing for a couple should take up about 1/2a normal size bag for a 2 week period. Balance of the first suitcase is toiletries, etc. 2nd suitcase = wedding stuff (or split them 1/2 and 1/2)
  8. My daughter is getting married at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Jamaica on Feb 14, 2011. Because we are staying an odd number of days, we have booked airfare and land separately. To qualify for group airline rates we need 12 people (we currently have 10 but are permitted to increase our number of airline tickets). To qualify for group hotel rates we need to book 10 rooms (we have 7). To get the "group" rate, travellers must stay a minimum of 3 nights at the hotel between Feb 9 and Feb 18, 2011. Is there anyone else in the Lower Mainland planning a small wedding or honeymoon, travelling to Jamaica around the same time that would be interested in getting the group discount by booking with our party? Please drop me an email if you have any questions.
  9. Congratulations! Our daughter is getting married in Jamaica in January 2011. We have chosen the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. We have just returned from two weeks at the resort and would be happy to answer any of your questions.
