RIU RM Palace Brides??
JNagan2011 replied to Jaime's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Oh yea other then the fact that I should be seeing everyone in November prior to leaving for Mexico, I decided to give the mugs/travel stuff ahead of time to: 1) avoid all the extra stuff for us to pack, since we will have ceremony stuff, wedding attire, etc., 2) to go with the packing list so people have a good list of what to bring, and 3) because our guests are all arriving on several different days ( majority on Wed. with us, some on Friday, and some on Sat.) ... -

Dana- that is really too bad! I am sure everything will end up working out great in the end, it just is a major bummer you have to go through all the extra work and extra money to fix what should have been done right in the first place. I don't get bridal shops sometimes and why they always try to convince you to get sizes you know won't work. I had the same issue with a bridesmaid dress for a friends wedding, but luckily it was just a bridesmaids dress.. What are you including in the OOT bags??? Â Well, I just ordered raffia fans from OTC to attach our wedding programs to. I also am looking into buying some personalized matches and napkins, anyone have a good, reasonably priced website to do this under? I've seen other girls from BDW order from weddingchannel.com but haven't really heard of other good sites. We decided against doing full blown OOT bags, but are instead doing mugs with a welcome letter/packing list that we will give before hand since we will see everyone in November prior to the wedding. My mom had also bought a bunch of good smelling travel candles incase rooms are musty from being in the caribbean (thus why i am doing the matches) and I would also like to get little magnets for the hotel balcony doors for everyone. I am thinking I will give these out along with the mugs prior to leaving for Mexico. I am a little worried about giving everything out before hand, and then people not thinking about bringing the mugs/candles with to Mexico... What do you girls think? -

It sounds like my wedding will be a lot like yours... With these crazy prices, I am not going to do a private reception and dj. I've heard the semi-private feels private anyways (and my family is loud so we will outdue any table that tries to compete ) and we plan to do the mariachi band after the ceremony as well for the first dance and parent dances. Then we will just make our own fun. Like I said, our group will be pretty fun, loud and obnixous so we will create the party with wherever we end up. My mom keeps reminding me that destination weddings are not necessarily traditional so its okay if its not. We will just have a different, special kind of fun! Â Dana- thats exciting you have your first fitting Hopefully the dress is what you remembered and loved -
I know this is a little late since your original post was a couple months ago, but congrats it looks great!! I do have a question for you if you are still checking this site at all, I see you bought your fans from oriental trading co. I was wondering, how did the sizes work out for you? I read that sizes vary slightly, so i was worried about ordering them from there, did you have any issues? Thanks!

Oh yes, I am debating ordering the raffia fans for the programs. Have any of you girls ordered the raffia fans through oriental trading company? I've read the sizes of the fan varies a little and I was wondering if any one had an issues with this? -

I am with you Dana on trying to decide what extras I want to do... I definitely thought I might save a little money by doing the dw but now it seems like I am paying for 1 1/2 weddings with doing the AHR along with the dw. Oh well, its our one big day and I want everything to be amazing so I don't mind paying for the extras. But I do agree, I don't know how much extra I want to tote down with me. I am already a terrible over packer and the extra stuff is going to get challenging. Â So far I've decided I definitely want to do the sand ceremony since it creates something from the wedding that we can keep forever. I really like the concept behind it, and it seems so appropriate for a beach wedding. I've also found the sash sharing link on this site and decided to go with the chair sashes as well. A girl gave me a really good deal on 20 orange sashes and then I am just going to buy 20 more pink ones from the same website (they seem to be good prices on the site). I will definitely by willing to donate/sell for cheap the chair sashes to any brides with weddings in 2011. However, I will post more after the wedding incase for some reason we don't get the sashes back (I believe Linds said she didn't end up getting her stuff back). But I thought I'd give you RPRM girls a heads up first! Â Well Kory's brother finally booked, so that means our wedding guest count is up to 30. Which is exciting, I was expecting it to be only in the mid-twenties so I am pretty excited more people can make it. Plus we have around 5 more people who are really seriously still looking into booking. Ok well sorry that got long! Hope everyone is doing well~ -
Lisa- my thoughts and prayers to your family about the loss of your father. Sorry I can't help take any of the dresses off your hands... My girls actually are wearing those as their dresses but everyone has them already. They are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous if anyone is thinking about them, they would be perfect for a DH wedding! So help take them off Lisa's hands; they are worth it!

Mine is 4 months away, so I am not thinking I am next but maybe??? .... Linds, if you are in Mexico on December 20th have a shot of tequila for us! .. Â I having taken a major hiatus from wedding planning.. I need to get back on top of it. I need to do invites, programs (establish what I want my ceremony to entail, I know for sure sand ceremony but not sure what else.... if any of you lovely married women would like to send me your outline that'd be great just to know where to start ), want to order raffia fans for the programs but haven't decided if we are yet, i have 20 orange chair sashes and want 20 pink ones.... .hmm.. still need jewelry for me and my girls. Wow this list just keeps getting longer. Â On a positive note, we just got our contract with the DJ for our AHR and FI was out in Vegas this past weekend. I had gone 4 weeks without seeing him and was going absolutely nuts!! although the visit made me miss him even more if thats possible. Â Nic- did you ever find that threat about passing the starfish? -

Nicola- you should look on destination wedding I think under buy, sell, freebies.... There is a starfish passing thread from brides on this site and I am sure you could see if it would be available for your wedding date. I believe they have several starfishes being passed around and all you have to do is send it to the next bride on the list. -

Cute bag Nicola!! It has been quiet lately which is good because my internship is sucking the life out of me right now. I am only checking in about 2x a week to take a break from studying ... Luckily most my planning I needed to get done early on is done, the little stuff can wait until I return to MN in the fall. Oh yes I do have good news... we had 8 more people book over the last couple of weeks bringing our count to 23 plus the two of us. This is not even including my FI brother's family (which will be 6 more) who will most definitely be booking soon. They are driving me nuts though that they haven't booked or got their passports yet. They have our 3 flower girls and were the ones who really wanted us to do a DW; and besides Kory would be devastated if they for some reason didn't make it. So hopefully thel will book soon! -

My sister did mugs and they were a HUGE hit!! I definitely felt they were worth the money, so I am giving mugs and just a couple small other things for our OOT bags. And I agree with Lisa, I know a lot of people kept their mugs for coffee/tea at home after the wedding! -

Happy birthday Nicola!! So we are accomplishing lots of wedding stuff lately ... Shoes and belts for the GM, found flowers I am going to make into hair flower for my BM and I, found our rings (still yet to purchase them, but they are found), had 6 more people book and 11 more people are looking into the flights and will book shortly.... I think that is it. Still deciding on whether I want to order raffia fans for the programs or not, but am going to wait til we get a closer head count! Hows everyone else's planning going?? Oh yes, on a side note. I am leaving for an 8 week internship in Vegas on Thursday and haven't even began packing :/! Better stop procrastinating and get to it! So I might not be on for awhile, so happy wedding day tomorrow Jannae -

I still have to cut the pages of our guestbooks and put them together, but I'll do that on the way to the airport. I had to nix my maraca tags because I just don't have time! Ok, off for some waxing, then to PARADISE! YAY CONRATS! You will have an amazing wedding day Nicola- that is soo exciting that your mom and dad booked. We have some friends and family booking this week to so I can share the excitement! Yay, to all the new girls ... I don't know much about other resorts, so can't give you any tips regarding them. All I know is that Rius are always amazing and the Riu Palace is suppose to be absolutely beautiful!! Oh and PS I know Jannae is having a beach wedding, so we will be seeing pictures and reading reviews soon -
