  1. Congrats! My sister got married there last Jan and it was absolutely perfect! Good luck with your planning!
  2. Congrats! I am from MN too and getting married in playa del carmen in December! Good luck with the planning!
  3. Welcome! My sister got married at a Riu in Jamaica last year and it was amazing, but we wanted to do Mexico so found the Riu Palace Riveria Maya. It looks perfect so check out the Riu link, there is lots of info!
  4. There are a lot of close dates... I cant wait to see all the pictures! Katie- that is awesome that you are done this year, i am jealous. I am not done until May 2011 so I will have one final internship after we get married!
  5. Haha thanks Shellk.. all your girls' posts sure helped me so i hope i can help some people! Plus my semester is starting so i am trying to get as much done before grad school overtakes my life again.
  6. Jessica- just sent you the info I just got from the Riu regarding prices
  7. Thanks Shellk! Your date is sooo close. I just realized my parents will be down in playa during the time of your wedding. They are staying at the iberostar tulum, so were gonna walk down and check out the Riu for me. Who knows, maybe they will get a glimpse at your wedding! Good luck doing all this last minute stuff. My sister got married last year in Jamaica, so I know this time can be stressful. But as soon as she got down there, I've never seen her happier or more carefree so just remember beach is near!
  8. Yes, I finally got through it all yesterday... I had been taking it chunk by chunk for a few days and realized that a lot of my questions would have been answered earlier. As for the beach photos, I have only seen a few and don't feel like I saw any posts from any BDW reviews that had their actual ceremony on the beach because of how beautiful the gazebo is. Here is a link: RIU Weddings Playa del Carmen Mexico This is a blog set up by the WC there, so you can look at pictures of the cake and flowers. At the end it shows the location choices which includes the beach set up atleast. Its not an actual wedding but you get the idea. Hope that link works
  9. Haha thanks! Yes, allready have some appointments set up for the end of the month. I didn't realize how long they could take to get in, so thanks for the heads up!
  10. I'm getting married at Riu Palace Riveria Maya on December 20! Just got confirmation that the date and time is available and being held for me as I book! Any planning tips? I figure I have the resort and the date, these are the biggies in my opinion!
  11. So has anyone heard of any flexibility with the over 40-50 number... like if we only had 30 people would there be anyway to get a private reception?
  12. So yay, I am almost officially a RPRM 2010 bride! Just got my confirmation email, so all I need to do is book my rooms and fill out the information to guarantee my spot! Looks like our wedding is 12/20/10! Couldn't be happier to get that email today!
  13. Thanks Jess! Good to know that it may take longer and that they don't take requests if they don't have the availability. So I will try to wait it out at least another week before I get too impatient where I will need to email them. Good luck with you wedding planning. Being a Minnesotan myself I know how nice it will be to get away from the cold weather in march
  14. Sammysgirl- love the BM dress and color! They will look great! Anyone- how long did it take for the Riu to get back to you about confirming a date if you remember? I requested my date on the 7th and the email back said it could take up to ten days. I am religiously checking my emails to look for that confirmation since I am soo excited! I'm getting nervous that I haven't heard anything yet so was wondering how long it took for them to get back to you originally. I am just so anxious to confirm
  15. I am going to between the beach and the gazebo for the same reason as you Nicyx (dreams of getting married on the beach with the sand under feet)... After seeing the gazebo, I could totally picture getting married there too. I was wondering when do you officially have to decide on the place. I know that they only do one wedding during a specific time frame, so once you have that locked down do you pretty much have until your trip to determine the location?
  16. Nice review! First off let me say, your BM's were so attractive what a lucky girl you are (well I may be a bit biased, since i was one of them ). Second, i just wanted to let everyone know that as a guest at the wedding, Becky's review is like right on. The OOT bags were great, Kory and I especially loved the mugs and the magnet (which I will probably be using for my wedding next year, assuming I am able to pull of this DW). I would recommend ROR to anyone for a wedding and would even use it for mine. But seeing as most of the wedding party would have already been the last year, we wanted to try somewhere new instead.
  17. Hey Lynn, We are REALLY thinking about doing RPRM for our DW and hoping to get married late 12/10... If you wouldn't mind sharing your estimated costs for just the resort at that time (if you know) and also I know you said you confirmed the 4th, so I was wondering if you had to book already then. Just sent me a private message if you do have these answers THANKS!
  18. Sounds good! Yay,we're like 95% sure that we'll be choosing RRM . So exciting, just have to wait for confirmation that his brother will be able to make it during the time we want to go! So exciting, can't wait to see everyone's pictures who has a 2010 wedding. Wristbands- so my sister got married last year at Riu Ochos Rio in JA. Everyone in the wedding party was allowed to clip off their wrist bands for the day of the wedding, and just had to make sure they did not lose it so we could turn it in for a new one. So no wrist bands in any of her pictures, and I didn't have any problems at the resort when I wasn't wearing it during the wedding and the reception. I would assume it would work similarly here.
  19. Thanks ladies! I know, i love the gazebo too, but part of me still wants to feel the sand under my toes as I say "I do"! Oh boy, so many decisions, but I am sure whatever we go with, we'll end up loving it... Two more questions, does anyone know how popular the resort is for weddings in December. We are thinking we will most likely be going Dec 15-25 of 2010, are we going to have troubles getting the day we want? Also, do we have to be booked in our room to reserve a date or can we go to that link through the Riu Wedding page and reserve a day but book later? Thanks all, everyone is so helpful on this forum; I might just be able to plan this wedding in less then a year
  20. Hey everyone.. Still pretty new to the forum and there is a LOT to look through here. We pretty much have it narrowed down to a Riu in Playa Del Carmen. Especially after seeing all the gorgeous pictures in this thread, we are leaning towards Riu Riveria Maya. The other one we are looking at is The Riu Palace Mexico. I have not seen much on the latter on this forum and haven't really seen any wedding pictures and I am taking this as a bad sign? Anyone knows any details that differ between the two? Any price difference or reasons you chose RRM over the Riu Palace Mexico? THanks
  21. Looks awesome! Sounds like a good place. One question I had was about the professional photography, did you bring some one down with you or were these through the resort? Jen
  22. Hey... Still deciding on a location but have been looking into Negril. My sister got married at a Riu last year in Ochos Rios and I loved the ceremony but I know I want to go to a different resort to get a little different feel. I like the sound of the Riu's in Negril, but want to know the difference between Riu Negril and the Tropical Bay Riu? Any one have any suggestions or been married either of those places?
