February 2010 brides
astreit replied to shellk's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Oh my gosh, VDayBride! I feel so terrible for you. I hoping and praying that the snow clears and you can get out on Saturday!!! All of your wonderful and detailed planning will not go to waste. -
Well I don't know. It says it is a little over 3 feet wide, and comes rolled up. I'd be afraid to take it off the role and fold it for fear of wrinkles, Do you think there is anything in the center of the roll? Or do you think I could bend it maybe? I guess I haven't measured, but I don't think my suitcase is over 3 feet tall.

Are any of you ladies taking your own aisle runner? My bridesmaids are wearing pink, so I'm not crazy about the red one at all. I had just accepted that I would go without, but then found I Do Originals and fell in love with one! I was super excited and ordered a monogrammed one yesterday, only to find out that it has a 3 month production period, giving it a ship date of May 3. I wanted it early enough to ship it to Mexico rather than having to carry it, so now I'm not sure what to do. I could get a plain white or ivory one in a week. I just am having hard time deciding whether it is worth the hassle to carry it with me, just get a plain one, or even just go without.

We ultimately went with: Salad: Trout salad w/ vegetable mouse & poblano chili sauce Soup: Oyster cream soup w/ fried leak Main Course: Beef fillet w/ dijon mustard, garnished w/ Provencal herbs AND a custom dish of Chicken stuffed with zucchini flour w/ rice & veggies on the side. Dessert: Cheesecake w/ chocolate For our vegetarians: Salad: Tomato salad w/ grilled zucchini Soup: Spring soup Main course: Eggplant cake w/ vegetables & green tomato sauce Dessert: Cheesecake w/ chocolate For our 1 vegan guest, the chef would prepare the vegetarian menu w/ no animal byproducts. For the children: Same salad, soup, and dessert as the regular guests Main course: Chicken fingers We met with the chef, Parroquin, to discuss the menu and different options for our vegetarians and 1 vegan guest. It was difficult to communicate with him because his English is poor and he didn't quite understand what we meant by vegan. It wasn't until I discussed it w/ Zulma did I feel more comfortable that the chef understood what I meant. Also, I wanted an altered chicken dish because we have some guests who eat chicken, but no seafood (the listed chicken dish is stuffed w/ shrimp). Normally, you are only supposed to choose one dish from each category for all your guests, but we found it hard to pick one dish for everyone. Zulma told us that if we knew exactly how many chickens/beefs/veggies we wanted and where they would be sitting, it would be fine. Two days before the reception, I provided Zulma with the final count and the seating chart. I was upset during the reception that the cheesecake didn't look the same as it did during the menu tasting. At the tasting, the cheesecake was very unique in that it was rounded and completely covered w/ chocolate...so you wouldn't know that it was cheesecake until you took a bite. At the reception, it was a standard looking cheesecake. Boo... but oh well. It was still tasty. Hope this helps!! This is so encouraging! We also have people who love chicken and do not like seafood at all, so very good to hear they will customize. I hope they will allow us to do a tasting when we get there. That would be ideal for me. I speak pretty good Spanish and almost wish they would give me their menu in Spanish because their English version does not sound appetizing at all. I know it must be in their translation though. Thanks so much! -
I also talked to Suzanna yesterday. She had sent me an email last week apologizing for not getting back to me sooner. However, she never responded after I replied. So I am just getting in the habit of calling when I have questions rather than emailing. She will normally respond in an email to all of my questions while we are on the phone to make sure I get everything in writing. I highly recommend calling. You may have to wait on hold for a little bit, but it is definitely worth it.

Congratulations! Thank you for your review. I was wondering what meal choices you went with for your wedding dinner? I am having a hard time deciding. Thanks! -

Also the breaded sesame chicken, the fried shrimp with mint sauce (they say cocnut shrimp but they are just fried no coconut) was really good, and the skewers. They do a wonderful job with presentation. That is wonderful to hear!!! My fiance and I were not thrilled with the cold choices, so great to know we can choose from both! Thanks for the info and the reviews. I think we will go with your recommendations as well.

Thanks for all the rehearsal ideas, ladies! My future mother-in-law wants to have a rehearsal, but I am not crazy about having to choose from the same menu as the wedding dinner. My fiance's family does not eat fish of any kind, so I don't want to have the beef filet both nights! I will definitely look into these ideas.
