  2. I'm sooo glad I'm hearing all of your stories. To you girls who are getting great support and love from your friends and family congrats and I'm so happy for you all. For the rest of us girls what I don't understand is that they all b*itch and moan now but once we get down there and all is said and done we all know there going to praise us and go wow I'm so glad I came...it was such an amazing time and go home and tell everyone about how awsome it was. For the most part I do just let it roll off my shoulders but yesterday I had talked to 5 different people who are invited and every single one of them complained and it just got to the point where it was like, is anybody happy for me? I totally feel like what mrs price said is sooo right about people not taking dw seriously like their real weddings. My sister/moh is fighting with me to find an inexpensive bridemaids dress because "its not like its a real nice wedding or anything" I guess some people just don't understand and they think you want to hear their money problems so you'll magically say "dont worry, I'll pay for you to come on down" Don't these people relaise that we know they're not made of money but neither are we, hense one of the reasons were doing a dw because it's less costly to us, but we still can have an amazing day. I'm just really glad this place exists because I know you all understand and go through the same things that no one around us understands. you girls rock!
  3. kevin costner: dances with wolves (on a side note I wonder if and how often things get repeated in this thread! lol)
  4. I don't think I'm including anything jamaican specific in our oot bags but will be usuing appleton rum as the guest favor/table number for the actual wedding itself.
  5. this guy is crazy. i've always respected him, he seemed like such a great father and role model. I can't believe I fell for his charade...he now sickens me. alcohol abuse or not...there is no excuse for anything he said and he must be held accountable.
  6. we're hoping we can afford to stay two weeks and resort hop but if we can't we'll do something locally like rent a cottage for a week or something in the summer for our 6 month anniversary since we wont be able to ever do it in january!
  7. its such a sad occurance but i mean even if it doesn reach it's way (which i dont think it will) there is nothing you can do about it and people will just have to understand that. like akua said theres always the pools!
  8. I'm meeting with my photographer who did our engagement shoot to talk about bringing them down but the price your photographer offers is kinda hard to beat! thanks so much for the info!
  9. thanks for the review kriz...we're thinking about staying there for our honeymoon and your review helped a lot!
  10. We were set on not going in unless it was $1500 or less but our resort came back at $1600...we hoed and hummed but really we figured it like this...if people will pay $1500 to come to your wedding an extra $100 for the most part, shouldn't be a deal breaker. We love our resort and couldn't imagine if we'd given it up for a couple hundred bucks because in the end its your day so go where makes you happy.

Do you know if this would cause any issues? on a side note - does GBP's spa offer bridal hair & makeup? I was on the website and it doesn't look like they do....I was hoping to keep things simple and go with whatever the resort offers thank~~~~~~~~ I think your best bet would be to get in contact with the jamaican consulate to see what they say. I dont see the name on the passport/birth certificate not matching perfectly mattering because you don't need the passport to get married just the certificate. As for the spa, I'm pretty sure they offer both, definatly the hair though because in the package I'm getting it has a hair trial and day of hair do included in the package. I didn't ask about the makeup though because one of my friends is a make-up artist so she'll be doing that for me as a gift.
  12. Just wondering....no scratch that....I'm positive there are some of you ladies out there that are getting the same thing I am and it was ok in the beginning but the more and more I hear it I want to blow up and explode!!! I know it's expensive to come to a DW. Since day one we've said that and that if you can come great, if not we totally understand. Why do people still feel the need to tell us that: $1600 is a lot of money you know. In this economy how can you expect that of people. I'm so excited to come even though it's a lot of money. If only money grew on trees. I feel like I can never catch up on my bills but I guess it's worth the money to be at your wedding. omg I could list a million more money woes I've been hearing from people about how much it is. It's getting me so aggrivated I want to change the whole front page of my wedding website to huge bold letters: "I KNOW IT'S A LOT OF MONEY BUT PLEASE STOP REMINDING ME OF IT EVERYTIME I SEE YOU" It is what it is and I know this conversation will never see its end but I don't even respond to it now. I go into robot mode as soon as someone starts it up. Just nod up and down and 'i know' and 'mhm' my way right through it lol
  13. Yes I did get the proposal down on one knee but a few months before it happened we were talking about getting married one day while we were driving somewhere and the speech he gave me then about his everlasting love and that we were put on this world to be together and we will get married someday will always be in my heart his real proposal. I know a perfect proposal is almost every girls dream and I'm sure you'll get it at some point but I'm sure you've also already gotten it in some way.

It could be problematic if she decides to start something on the day of your wedding but if you just went along with all of her ideas but just threw them to the wind she wouldn't know the difference until it's too late! Honestly though, it sucks you've even asked her to stop and she still wont listen...i think your going to have to a pull a bridezilla on her or something to get the message through and make it stick! good luck!
  15. im so sorry to hear that. we're getting the same comments with jamaica now because of the whole debacle going on in kingston...on the other side of the island just like mexico! Just let it slide off your back and not bother you. I know it can be hard at times but it'll save yourself a lot of unnecessary stress!
  16. i love everyones wedding jumps and can't wait to do mine! all your pics are wonderful ladies!
  17. sounds like you had an amazing wedding! if it wasn't so expensive we were going to go there. congrats!
