  1. I'm in Punta Cana. We did not feel anything. Everything seems completely normal here. I don't blame your guests for worrying, but there is no need to. There is a reason why you aren't hearing anything about Punta Cana in the news...because there is nothing to report.
  2. I am in the DR and have lots of friends from Haiti who have been going back to check on their families. They are not able to bring any supplies with them because the border has become very dangerous with robberies. I don't want to make this post negative because I think it is great that people are looking to help, but for now it seems like money donations are the best way to go. Maybe the people at Seavis have a plan to get the supplies there with a larger agency, but I know that without the help of a security company it is almost impossible for individuals to bring large donations all the way into the city. It breaks my heart that there isn't more we can do. Hopefully, it will get easier to get supplies to those who need them soon.
  3. This is a huge help. Thank you so much for posting this website. Its just what I was looking for.
  4. I am using HDC photos for my Aug. 2010 wedding. I met with Arnaud about a month ago and can't wait to work with him. His pictures are amazing!
  5. I love the beige linen. FI's light beign suit is supposed to arrive today. I am nervous that it might be too light in color. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  6. sgathercole, I booked my date 11 months in advance and I'm glad I did because the judge they use at the resort I chose was already booked for all but one slot on my day. My hotel doesn't require a deposit, so I can't help you there. I'm sure that as soon as you ask to reserve a date, the WC at the hotel will let you know their policy on deposits.
  7. Thanks for bumping this thread! These books are great. I can't wait to use some of these ideas.
  8. I agree with Sungoddess that you might want to look into resorts with multiple hotels. That way your guests can choose what price range works for them. As she said, the Palladium has four hotels, Iberostar has four and RIU has 5. There is a huge range in prices and amenities. I know RIU has some restrictions on how many guests have to stay at the hotel where you have the ceremony, but I don't think the others do. It might be worth checking out. Also, that $900 quote for Moon Palace is actually REALLY good for that hotel. Just keep in mind that the Moon Palace in Punta Cana is becoming a Hard Rock Hotel this spring. In my opinion, its going to take some of the Caribbean feel away from the resort, but maybe its not that big of a deal.
  9. elifrigo- The Outback Safari is $89 per person. It is a great trip for groups. Usually if you have more than 15 people you can have your own safari truck with your own guide!
  10. Great choice. I have been looking for something similar, so thanks for the reference!
  11. My order shipped today! They say it should arrive in 4-7 days. I can't wait to see how it turned out.
  12. I spoke with them today as well. They had accidentally canceled my order and are now putting a rush on it, so that I should get it in the next week. I think that you were right that no one was there over the holidays. At least they are trying to make everything right now. Lets see what the product looks like!
  13. I love the towels!! Thanks for the amazing ideas. Congrats!
  14. Congrats! The bags look great! Where did you get your mugs?
  15. I must say that they did respond to my ticket within an hour of issuing it. Have you tried calling them?
  16. I am having the same problem with them. I ordered on Dec. 8 and was supposed to receive my order on the 22nd. I sent a "ticket" two days ago and they told me my order was canceled on the 9th. I don't really understand that because I was charged and they continued to update the progress of my order through the 17th, so I have no idea what is going on. I will be calling them on Monday to see what is going on. I hope that they are just behind because of the holidays.
  17. Congrats! I am getting married the same day, so its good to see a countdown. I can't wait til August 2010, but have lots to do in the mean time.
  18. They paid cash, so I can't be certain about the traveler's check. My guess would be no. Most hotels don't even cash traveler's checks in Punta Cana. You might find that some representatives that sell tours can accept them, but that is pretty much it.
  19. If anyone is looking to do an extravagantly decorated reception, you might want to check out Creative Punta Cana (..:: Creative Punta Cana ::..). I just stumbled across the website and it looks like they do amazing set-ups. I haven't used them, but thought they might be exactly what someone else is looking for.
  20. According to some friends of mine who were there about 6 weeks ago, they still do not accept credit cards. Also, generally if you call ahead and make a reservation they pay for your taxi back to the hotel. Generally, they will call for you from guest services.
