Welcome to BDW and happy planning! As a newbie myself I found the list of acronyms quite useful to start with... http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...acronyms-2690/
  2. Thanks for the reference and the advice. Spliting costs in half certainly is appealing and would enable us to splurge a little more.
  3. Congratulations on the engagement & welcome to BDW!

  5. Oh and since I'm new to this forum and to any forum for that matter, I found this forum very useful. It explains abbreviations used on this site: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...acronyms-2690/
  6. I find there are 4 main benefits for myself at least... 1) You get to spend a whole week (or a few days) rather just 1/2 day with firends and family if I were to have a local wedding 2) Less desireable guests aren't part of the plan 3) Cost reduction 4) You get a great natural looking tan for your wedding pics! Browse around this forum and I'm sure you'll find all you need. Just need a little patience... Cheers!
  7. Congratulations! I'm also looking into a Mexican wedding destination (althoug later in the year - Nov probably) so I know the feeling you have right now. It's overwhelming how many places/resorts there are. I started by speaking to friends & family to get their travel likes & dislikes but I mostly rely on my own experience and my travel agent's advice on beach, food and service quality, as well as the weather at your given time of the year. July for example is VERY hot so you'll probably want a more breezy location with a resort that offers A/C in all areas (not just in the rooms but in the dining areas as well) and perhaps a swim-up bar since the pool will surely be a popular gathering spot. Sorry I can't tell you which region would be best mid-summer weather-wise but that's where I'd start narrowing it down. I hope it all works out well for you!
  8. Hi everyone, Congratulations to all other brides-to-be and recent brides! I'm thrilled to say that my fiancé surprised me during a trip last month in the South of France, as he got down on one knee while we were visiting a castle. Very touching and romantic!!! (I LOVE surprises!) We'd like a wedding in the Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen region. His youngest brother (of 3) and bestman has just asked us if we'd consider a DOUBLE wedding. I think it's great idea (as long as they agree to MY ideas of course!!! lol) As for the date, we're thinking Nov. 2010 or Jan/Feb 2011 to avoid the Holiday and spring break crowds. From what I've gathered so far, The Royal Playa del Carmen seems like the ideal all-inclusive for our needs. There's SO MUCH to look into & think about though, my head is spinning!!! I'm wondering if I should hire a local wedding planner (Riviera Maya)? Any thoughts? I'd like to able to chose my photographer, flowers, menu, decorations, music, etc. Merci! Brigitte P.S. - I'm French-Canadian so sorry if I make some spelling errors!
