  8. hi chendy - i am a travel agent, and i can assure you that you CAN get a child rate at the Elegance. it is a matter of what supplier your travel agent goes through. i don't know if things are different in the States (i am in canada), but i checked a few of my suppliers and the child rate is about $300 less than the adult rate. good luck!
  9. yeah...i, and my fellow januaryites got bumped off again! 10. boo...i say Go For It! i don't think the ladies are going to be sitting there comparing the quality of their pashminas. ashley, welcome! sounds like you are well on your way! are you looking at getting bridesmaid dresses just at a regular store instead of a bridal store? hmmm...maybe have a look at le chateau? they usually have little dresses all year - but it depends on what colour you might be looking for. something summery might be a little more challenging. good luck!
  11. i am 90% sure i will buy offline once i find a dress i know i love.
  12. echo - would you mind telling me who did your alterations? i may be going the knock-off route, and might need a good seamstress.... thanks!
  13. hey T&C! yay for the Majestic! nope, we aren't booked yet, but will probably do so in the next couple of weeks. and yes, we do have to travel through toronto. most of our guests are leaving from toronto, so they get to travel direct. i am so excited and just wish january would hurry up and get here!
  14. not all of the shops need appointments, but some do. i would double check with Beautiful Bride though, they DEFINITELY need appts. ...and yes, Cameo and Cufflinks was definitely the best service, by far!
  15. hey gals....so i ended up checking out Ever After, Menas, Blissful Bidal and Beautiful Bride today. Ever After didn't have a huge amount in my size to try on, but i tried on 2 dresses - one of which i had been interested in previously, but couldn't find one that would fit over my hips...lol. i really liked it, but would have loved to have been able to take a picture to show my peeps. dress shopping alone is difficult when they don't let you take photos. the ladies there were okay. very small shop, not a lot to chose from. i then stopped at Mena's. it was nice, and the girls were very nice. Mena was doing a fitting with a gal, and she seems very very nice. i tried on 4 dresses, one of which i really liked, but does not suit my beach wedding at all....LOL. it would need a lot of changes to make it into what i want. at Blissful Bridal i tried on 3-4. the girl helping me was nice, but the dresses there weren't fantastic, in my size anyhow. and then Beautiful Bride. i didn't have an appointment and they were fully booked, so i just had a look at what they had. some GORGEOUS dresses (martina liana - love her!), but nothing in my size that i would be interested in. i am glad i got to a few more shops, but i am not in love with anything yet!
  16. oooh, very pretty Natalie! i am actually going to do a tiny bit of work this morning, and then head out to a few more stores this morning (working for yourself can definitely have perks!).. i am going to Ever After (Lindslou, this is on 16th, is it what you were thinking of?) and Mena's. depending on the time, i may make a quick stop at Blissful Bridal and BEautiful Bride. we'll see! be prepared for more shop reviews this evening!!
  17. your dress shopping spreadsheet? lol...i love it! i haven't checked out Mena's yet, but i definitely will...and that other shop too! i was EXHAUSTED by the end of that day, but i will definitely head out to more. i am crazy indecisive, so i will have to try on lots before making a decision! i am still so surprised i am leaning towards a TOTALLY different style than i had anticipated! but i feel like i am cheating on my "dream dress"...lol. sandy - enjoy your shopping!
  18. hey ladies! i will try and make it on the 29th - but can't say for sure yet!! i went dress shopping this weekend for the first time, which was awesome. my sister was in town from toronto and we had a great time. we went to Cameo and Cufflinks first which was fantastic. the girls there were wonderful and were very attentive and knowledgable. they didn't have a HUGE amount of plus sized dresses (which i need), but they had a few. i tried on a few styles and ended up loving a style i had NO INTENTION of getting! i was looking for a very plan ballgown style with pockets, and ended up loving the fit and flare. who knew that even a plus sized gal like me (street size 20) could look so great in a dress fitted to my hips. my curves rocked! so now i have totally changed my idea of what dress i want...so much more research to do now! we then popped next door to the Parisian and those ladies were very nice as well. they had a few more dresses that fit which is a definite bonus. i ruled some more styles out and some more dresses IN! we then tried to go to House of Brides - but i think that it may be going out of business? i had tried to make an appointment all week, and there was never an answer...and then the final time i tried, their mailbox was full. when we arrived on friday, it was dark and the doors were locked. we then stopped at Ethos, who had TONS of dresses. the ladies were quite busy, but very nice and really tried to help. i didn't like any of the plus sized gowns so i didn't end up trying anything on. we rounded out the day at The Bridal Centre, hoping that they would have a lot of plus-sized to choose from, since they are so large...but it was difficult when we weren't allowed to look at the dresses. we had to rely on the consultant to bring dresses out and they weren't what was looking for at all. i was not impressed. i found the atmosphere to be very snooty. i think i have narrowed down what sort of dress i want now, and it is just a matter of calling around to some other bridal shops to see if they have the dresses i want in a large enough size to try on! if they dont - i am not too sure what i am going to do! anyhow, hope you are all having a nice weekend!
  19. i ordered one from them...kind of a pin up stype suit that really shows off the tee-tahs!! it is a great quality suit and fits well. it was expensive and chipping to Canada WAS a lot, but i would say it was worth it!
  20. wow, that is gorgeous! i would say a silk flower would be a nice touch!
  21. hi cookie, welcome! most of my guests are coming from ontario, and they will be paying between $1650-$1700 per adult for the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana. my FI and i are the only one's coming from Calgary and will be paying around $1950 each (yikes).

Please note as I am typing this I am eating a wunderbar. I so fail. i SOOOO agree...if i lost weight just by thinking about it, there would be nothing left of me!! i think of my weight probably every 10 minutes, every...single...day. ....and i just got finished eating a whack of tortilla chips and homemade hummus.

Price Adjustment - If Sunquest reduces their group pricing, a request for a one time price adjustment can be made up to 60 days prior to departure. So that is $1610 with taxes in for one week (Saturday departure). What did your Toronto guests get quoted? And what days will you be there? Hopefully we can still go for a cocktail one night! my quote was a bit higher, but it is also the week before. the problem with sunquest for me, is that we would all be arriving on different days (the 22nd, the 24th, the 25th) because i have three main gateways. OI!! sooo...i still don't know what days we are going. Westjet from the 22-29 still seems like the best for everyone - but it just leaves me with only a day and a half after the wedding before we have to leave.
