Any suggestions? Also, what are you girls planning for receptions? I want to keep it simple! I am thinking a nice reception dinner, then just going for drinks at the resort and/or going out afterwards. I would love to hear your thoughts and plans! our reception is going to be pretty lax. we are having a semi-private dinner, and then moving the gang to one of the bar areas that we are renting out for a little cake and dancing. having a first dance with my FI (husband) and my dad is important to me! so we will party it up there for a couple of hours, and then all the young gang will head to the disco! as for a darker colour, how about a nice leafy olive green? that was my colour choice before we decided to do a DW. it can be really pretty!

  3. hi ladies! i have been on this site for a couple of months, and have finally decided on a resort! we will be getting married at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana! we don't have a firm date, as i have just emailed the wedding coordinator today...but we want late january 2011. we have decided on our colours too - fuschia and orange! our photographer will be a very talented friend of mine who we are flying down with us. we are on a super tight budget, but are feeling good about things hurray!
  4. i have just read this entire thread from top to bottom, and things are so much more concrete for me now...thank you!! my question is...what is the max number of people you can have for the free dinner at the Steakhouse? i have read 40, but i have also read 60. if we have 60 people, and that is too many for the steakhouse....can we still have the free dinner? thank you! ...i think i may post this on the FB page too!
  5. we are getting married here, prior to going down. i don't have any ideas on "tricking" the guests...we are just going to keep quiet about it. i am a terrible secret keeper, so it will prove to be a challenge!! your guests might catch on when you don't sign the registry while you are there. i think i will just say we did the "paperwork' at home, and not actually say "we got married" at home.....as i won't consider it an actual wedding.
  6. there is a Canadian OOT bag thread over on the OOT board, you could have a look there ...i don't think i am doing oot bags, so i don't have any wisdom for you!
  7. meldal...i agree! it looks gorgeous out there! i am glad i work from home and didn't have to drive in all of that fog and frost though!
  8. welcome, iheartbees! the more the merrier! ...i am still a little undecided about the show too, but i think we will skip it.
  9. i am not too worried about the weather either. FI said, that even if it is pouring rain outside, the two of us are going to be standing on that beach, saying our vows we kinda love the rain.. ...and Boo, i may be getting pashmina's too - fuschia and orange. maybe at a later date (once things for me are a bit more concrete), we can go together on an order!
  10. hi kristin, i am a travel agent and have received several press releases from the Dominican stating that they have not been affected at all from the quake. there is no damage, and there have been no problems getting in and out of the country. everything is going on as if it had never happened. i would probably need reassurance too if i was heading there in the next little while - but not to worry!
  11. meghan -thanks so much, that was very helpful! i am surprised to hear that there is such a difference in the per person amount from the package vs. no package. i didn't even think of that as a possibility. i think i have made the mistake of getting myself attached to a certain resort before realizing that it might be a little too out of reach! but i will talk to the WC before i count it out. and i will also check out there threads in the DR section for some more info. again, you guys rock
  12. thanks meghan & nadine! i don't already have a budget in mind (i am not a budgetty person - which may be why i am in debt, HA!)...i just need to keep costs as low as humanly possible..hehe. that is great to know about the free wedding/reception when you have a lot of guests. not that we plan on 90, that's for sure...but that is great to know! the resorts we have been looking at (majestic colonial/riu punta cana) do have some inclusions (majestic's wedding is included, riu has a package)which includes bride & groom flowers which is a plus. i was thinking of parasols for the 'maids which will cut down on costs (i think)....i am going to skip the OOT bags...have inexpensive favours in mind...and the photographer is actually a good friend who i am sure i could just disguise as a wedding guest who happens to have a fancy camera! wedding party gifts are a given, and i have no probs with that. we had originally wanted to take the whole party on an excursion, but that will probably be outside of our budget. how much does the extra per person cost tend to run, in your experience? centrepieces are up to me, is that right? or can you pay a bit more for the resort to take care of those too? (i understand it varies everywhere).. i would have to take care of chair sashes, table runners, any extra decos...invitations i will probably do a DIY jobby or something cheap from vistaprint... sorry, i am kind of thinking out loud, but i appreciate all of your input!
  13. hi gals, i thought i would come to you guys, as you know what planning for a DW is like...but i am starting to panic a little! we are on a super tight budget...a non existant budget. everything for the wedding will be put on a credit card, and we already have lots of debt. so i am starting to freak out about all of the "extras". i have no problems having our reception dinner at a non private restaurant, so we don't have to pay extra for food or drinks. i can keep decor to a minimum, and maybe bring my own photographer (a friend). we may have a fair number of people for the cermony (40?), and i know it kind of depends on the resort, but they usually max out setup at 10 or 20 i think - so we may have to pay more for that. what are the biggies i am missing that i will have to pay extra for? please tell me i can still do a DW on a tiny budget! thank you!
  14. i really can appreciate this thread right now, as i am panicking about all of the "extras". we have a very small budget for the wedding, and really need to keep things as simple as possible. if we can get some inexpensive things to bring with us (like $1 chair sashes), then we will...but nothing too crazy! we will have our reception in a non-private restaurant and so as much as we can to keep that price down. so thanks too all of those who are in the same boat! i am glad i am not alone!
  15. hmm, i had better not - i have about 90lbs to lose before my wedding!!
  16. yikes! thanks for theadsup about the shows - i was wondering if i should go on sunday or not! how about NOT!
  17. hi ladies! i just wanted to introduce myself a new calgarian, and a new destination bride! FI and i haven't decided 100% on a destination, but are leaning towards punta cana - possibly the majestic colonial. we have decided on january 2011 which is now just a year away, so i think i better start getting busy! i am my own travel agent (which might be crazy), but i only have myself to blame for my service! i think this thread will be really helpful since i am new to town and don't know all the places to go! i am looking forward to getting to know you ladies!
  18. this has been fantastic! i am a big stresser, so i am hoping that all of these details you have cleared up for me will take some of that stress away! i am my own travel agent, so i hope that the stress of all the booking doesn't overwhelm me over and above the actual wedding planning! i am so excited...you ladies all made it seem so real for me. THANK YOU!
  19. thanks everyone! i really appreciate the warm welcome!
  20. hi ladies! i don't mean to barge in on your no-ring-yet group, but i just found this forum and wanted to get in the loop with some more 2011 brides! we have decided on a jan 2011 DW, probably in punta cana. we originally wanted Turks, but i think it will just be too much money for our guests. i was leaning towards the Majestic Elegance, but may be swaying over to Dreams PC, as they have a better deal for those with kids. anyhow, i hope to get to know you ladies as we wait for our big day!
  21. hi all! my name is pam and i am hugely excited to start planning my DW! my fiance, Cem (pronounced like Jem) and i are leaning towards the Dominican for our wedding, slated for late Jan 2011. i have never been to a DW, and i don't know a huge amount about what is expected of me, but i can already tell that this site will be an amazing resource. i have already spent many an hour scouring the pictures and great advice! i look forward to getting to know my fellow brides!
