Waiting to see what the most recent dresses look like before making a decision. Do you have any other back-up plans for you real dress or are you going to just go with one of these websites no matter what? I just looked at your wedding date you have lots of time. And keep me posted on your plans....since we are in the same boat sort of. i do have a fair bit of time, so i am okay to stalk for a while! but i am really hoping just to go for a knockoff, as i don't have the money for a designer dress in a style i like. i will order one from china, and if it doesn't work out, i may look to David's Bridal or something. i am a plus sized girl as well, so having a designer style dress made to my measurements is exciting to me too! the dresses i have in mind are all very simple and would be hard to botch i think *knock on wood* i haven't even tried on any dresses in-store yet, so i will have to see if my dream dress style actually suits me! i will keep you updated!!
  2. happy legal day kayley!! enjoy your ceremony tonight, it sounds like a really lovely idea!

Does anyone know if it rains alot in the DR? I am really concerned all of the sudden, my wedding is in less then 3 weeks. Thanks! the electrical outlets are the same, so you won't need to worry about bringing a converter! i think it might be getting into the "rainy season" in the DR, but i don't think it generally rains a lot. from what i have heard, it can rain almost everyday, but just for 15 minutes and then it clears up. good luck!!

So far Duosheng has been quick to respond and great customer service. I have to go get my measurements taken tihs weekend. i haven't ordered one yet - i am still so undecided on who to go with. i am stalking this thread like crazy in hopes of seeing some awesome final products that will sway my decision. this is for my real dress, not my TTD. the red/blue dress above from gianinar looks amazing, so right now i am leaning towards them - but i have seen some nice Duosheng dresses too. and now i want to see that gorgeous romona kerveza from littlecoral. LOL. i am such a bad decision maker!

I was so unhappy with the pictures of me in dresses, I went onto the HCG diet and lost 25 lbs in a month. I never stick to diets especially radical ones but looking terrible in a wedding dress was just the motivation I needed. My dress finally came in (2 weeks before I leave) and has to be taken down over 2 sizes! Moral of the story: Go try, then diet, then order but make sure you give it 6 months to come in. very good points, amanda - thank you. i am possibly ordering my dress from china which only takes a couple of months, but you are right about trying on dresses adding fuel to the weight loss fire.
  6. Janine - i say #1, it is a stunning dress and looks great on you. #2 is pretty, but not stunning.
  7. it is days like this that i am super glad i work from home! i am in McKenzie Towne, but a power outage would just mean i get to sit on the couch and drink tea and read a book - sounds good to me!
  8. hi ladies! i have been on this site for months and just came across this fantastic thread! i am definitely a curvacious girl, but am hoping to be a little less so for my wedding. you would think that an imminent wedding would keep me from eating all of the wrong things and sitting on the couch too much - but it hasn't! i haven't tried on dresses yet. i am scared. i am worried i will be totally disgusted with how i look. i lost a lot of weight a few years ago (went from 218 to 175), but then i moved in with my FI, and gained 90lbs. NINETY POUNDS! i went all the way up to 265 and i am working my way back down (currently 245). anyhow, when i look in the mirror, the person looking back at me is not the person i know, and not the person i feel like. so, i am wanting to get down to about 180 for my wedding. i have lots of work to do. thanks for listening, and i am looking forward to chit chatting with you guys!

And I'm PRAYING it looks and fits right. I cut it close so there is no real room for error. i love this - it is beautiful.

Good luck to you. where did you order yours from Margret?
  11. welcome Lindsey and good luck with all of the last minute planning Cara & KRama! i am so excited for you guys! i wish i was leaving in a couple of weeks instead of NINE MONTHS from now. in the meantime, batten down the hatches for the weather we are about to get. gross.

But in the end I realized that I was more me with my short hair. If I grew it I'd just wind up cutting it off anyway and if I got extensions I'd just feel like an imposter. This time around I have even shorter hair ( a pixie) and I'm not even thinking about changing it. Short hair is who I am and I look damn good in it! We are lucky enough to be able to have short hair and look HOT so why change? In the end you need to do what makes you happy and what makes you comfortable. But I wouldn't let that image of the bride with long flowing locks or an upswept do change the beautiful person you will be on your wedding day regardless of what it on your head. thanks for this! it is nice knowing i won't be the only pixie bride out there! i have debated keeping my hair long (as it was long for most of my life), but i just feel so much cuter with my pixie cut - even if that means it won't be traditionally bride-y.
  13. well..i am down 1lb this week. i would have been happy with more (as i have a LOT to lose) - but i did feel a little puffy today if that is any consolation to myself...hehe. onwards and downwards!
  14. great song nmurch! ours will be either "Sweet Thing" or "Crazy Love" ...both by Van Morrison

I think ours will be a weekday as well, but it'll be super low key b/c we want the wedding in DR to be the real deal. I'm debating now between having a private reception or doing one at Jellyfish. It actually might be a bit cheaper and it seems like the decorations are better? I guess I will have to price everything out and see! Lisa i don't know too much about the Jellyfish, so i can't help you there i'm afraid. if you haven't already, check out the facebook group 'Majestic Colonial Brides!' ... PhotoPhil has a note on there about what happens if it rains (perfect timing to our discussion!) and you will probably find lots of info on the Jellyfish there. our legal day will also be very lowkey as well. i don't want to exchange rings or say any vows if we don't have to (i think we may have to say something though). i would rather just sign the papers and be done with it, so it doesn't seem like a wedding. i can hear my dad now, "You want all of these people to pay thousands of dollars to come to your wedding, and you are already married??!!"... that's why he doesn't get to know. LOL.

  17. i used to have a pixie cut, and i have been debating going back to it for wedding day. most brides grow their hair long for their wedding, but i think i am going to chop it all off! (it is currently most of the way down my back).. i feel more like myself when i am pixie-fied...but i understand the frustration in not seeing a lot of short hair brides!
  18. suzy - i LOVE the waterproof label idea!! i am so doing that now...thank you!

Lisa if it rains and you are having a private dinner, they have a ballroom type room. if it is just for your reception, there is a Sports Bar which has lots of room for dancing.. and for the ceremony, you could do it in the gazebo if you have a teeny wedding, or there is a covered type area in the main building where some weddings are held (i don't know what it is called, but i have seen pics).. FI and i have decided that we will get married on the beach, rain or shine! if the forecast is rainy, we will go out and buy everyone umbrellas, but are getting married on that beach! we are only having a symbolic ceremony, so lastnight we were talking about when to actually have our legal day, and now i am super excited!! we have decided to have it on our 4 year dating anniversary (Nov 24th) - it is a tuesday, but we don't care!
