  1. This is a great question! I had to compromise on the AHR because it's what my FI was interested in. This is my second marriage (the first one came with all the bells and whistles) so I really wasn't into it as much as he is. I'm doing it to appease him, and to have a chance to celebrate with those that can't join us in Jamaica. Now, my question is, what's the rationale behind planning a dw at an all-inclusive resort, and PAYING $75+ per person for a reception, dj, cake, etc. If it's already all-inclusive, why double pay
  2. No rest and relaxation here! LOL! I'm having my AHR TWO DAYS after I return from Jamaica. #1, we didn't want to space it out. We want to get EVERYTHING done and over with quickly. #2, we thought it would kind of take some of the excitement away to have it later. With that, as someone else as said, we are trying our best to be highly organized so we don't have to worry about too much upon our return from Jamaica.
  3. We're getting married April 24th and since we didn't want to wait weeks and weeks to do our AHR, we're having that the very next weekend (April 30th). That's not near enough time to have my dress cleaned. Plus, I want to wear something bright and fun and flirty at the AHR.
  4. I was JUST discussing this with my friend that's over my AHR decor. I'm not really big on the whole bouquet toss thing, so instead, we're going to give away the centerpieces and make a 30 second presentation for those we pick to receive them. So far, they'll probably go to our mothers, his cousin (who introduced us), 2 of my friends who helped with planning, etc.
  5. Our AHR starts around 7:00pm. I'm thinking there won't be a significant number of people there until 8:00pm. We're thinking of having a video of photos play during the cocktail hour and after the last ones show of the wedding, we want the DJ to introduce us and we come out. I want to go straight to the dance floor and do our first dance. After that, a quick prayer and let the party begin! If none of that works out, we'll just mingle with the guests as they arrive but I don't want to meet people at the door or anything. I don't want it to seem like we're there waiting for gifts...LOL!
  6. Well, I've been frantically searching for the 50mL bottles of Appleton Jamaican Rum to give out as favors. I planned for them to double as escorts card also with a tag attached with table numbers on one side and perhaps a drink receipe to be made with the rum on the other. I received an initial response from Appleton about a week and a half ago but haven't heard anything since. I'm starting to think that this isn't going to get accomplished as easily as I had originally thought. My second choice was a cookie bar. Nothing very tropical about it but....whatever.
  7. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THIS WAS HAPPENING TO!!! LOL!! What I hate is when I mention that it's a destination wedding, folx always say, "oh, you must not want me there..." What's crazy is, it's typically people I didn't plan to invite in the first place you say it!!!! LOL! When we first announced that it would be a destination wedding, the first thing certain family members started to do was name all the reasons particular people wouldn't be able to make it (ie. schedules, financial reasons, health reasons, etc.). I've just put all that to the side and have decided that my FI and I are going to do it our way no matter what anyone thinks about it.
  8. LOL @ "playing camp counselor"...LOL!! We're planning to turn our rehearsal dinner into a welcome dinner on Friday evening, and the ceremony is Saturday. We were thinking of scheduling an excursion for Sunday and possibly one for Monday also - we just haven't picked them yet. I'm sure one will be a boat ride to Dunns River Falls. My question is, are any of you planning to pay for your guests to join you on the activity?
  9. Are we talking about the actual destination wedding or the AHR?? As for me, I NEED MY 10 ROOMS!! LOL!! With that, I don't care who comes at this point, and since Sandals Grande Ocho Rios is a couples resort, I need to have all guests to have a travel partner anyway. We're not doing a formal reception after the ceremony in Jamaica (I can't imagine paying extra for food that's already included in an all-inclusive resort so we're just going to all eat together at one of the restaraunts), so the number of people that join us there is no issue. Now as for our AHR, that's something different. Whoever we address the invitation to is who we're inviting...period.
  10. Our date is April 24, 2010. We're doing an AHR the following week in Houston as well. Yeah...call me crazy....LOL!!! I kind of want to get everything out of the way quickly though.
  11. LOL!!! You must know me! LOL! I've been thinking "humph, they're all going to wait until the last minute and worry me to DEATH about their travel arrangements and at THAT time I'll give them a piece of my mind!!" LOL!!! But you're right, I need to be prepared for the inevitable aggravating questions and just answer them with a smile. LOL!
  12. It all looks great! I can't wait to get started on mine! As a matter of fact, I think I'll check out that website for my bags now...
  13. Hello all! I'm LaToya and I'm a 2010 Ocho Rios bride! Time sure does fly by! Can't wait to get some neat ideas from this site!
  14. Can someone post the website for the company WITHOUT the extra $55 fee?? Thanks! Also, are you gals putting these mugs in our OOT bags? I was thinking of doing that in hope of my guests being able to use them at the resort (I heard the cups they give you for alcohol are kinda small)...
  15. I feel the EXACT same way! We sent our Save the Dates out over a month ago and we have NO ONE booked yet (except ourselves of course). This is so frustrating! I don't want to nag folx, but some of these same people were the main ones begging to be invited! I don't know if it's the cost, if people are waiting until after the holidays, until they receive their tax returns....OR WHAT?? *screaming* I NEED THOSE 10 ROOMS BOOKED!!!
  16. Hello Brides! I'm an April 24, 2010 SGOR Bride and I'm SO excited!!! My only issue (well...one of them) is that I CAN'T STAND the Martha Stewart collection they're offering now. I had no intentions of upgrading anything, but LAWD...the color purple isn't anywhere near the vision I had for the flowers I wanted to carry. Now I'm considering having a silk bouquet made to bring along with me. Has anyone else done this?? How did it work out?? I don't have a bridal party so I'll just need my bouquet and a boutiniere (sp) for my fiance (maybe a corsage for our moms I guess, also).
  17. I'm bringing my own photographer. We're paying for her portion of the trip, making sure she's booked for the minimum number of nights so she's considered a "guest", and she's giving us THE WORKS!
