Petite and tiny brides :)
RonNMel replied to valentinbride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm gonna be wearing flip flops. I too don't feel very comfortable in heels. Plus, there is no way I'd wear heels in the sand. Lucky for me, my FI is only 5'5, so we fit well together. :-D -

Anyone NOT Taking FI Name?
RonNMel replied to hoyt75's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I live in Quebec and like Amy said, they don't do name changes here. Almost every women I know, young and old, have kept their last name. What happens sometimes though is that in non-legal situations they will be referred to using their husband's name. -
Thanks. To post pictures, you need to first upload them to a site like photobucket. Then you copy the link that has IMG in brackets and paste it here. There are more detailed instructions somewhere on this forum. If you search for uploading photos, you should find it easily.

Tux or casual digs for the guys?
RonNMel replied to Diva's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I don't think khakis look weird next to a bridal gown. In fact, I think it looks quite good. To me, a destination wedding is more relax by definition. -
Awesome! Thanks for the reviews. For the seating arrangement, were the tables round or rectangular? When did you make most of the decisions? All there, or some over email? You said there were lots of flowers leading up to the archaway, was that included in the price or did you pay extra? For the private reception, was is just 8$ per hour, or was there an extra charge of 150$ (I think I've read that somewhere)? We would love to see pictures if you have some. :-D

Petite and tiny brides :)
RonNMel replied to valentinbride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I have almost the exact same measurements as Islandbride, except I barely make the 5 feet. I really wanted an empire waist, with the fabric opening in the middle (very "flowy") but all the dresses I tried on with that style made me look pregnant. I love the dress I ended up choosing, very fitted and sexy. Just not as beachy as I would have liked. -
Thank you! Yes, she made a French and an English version. For printing we fit 3 per page, 2 English and 1 French. And I agree, it was definitely worth the wait, they really do look so much better than anything I could have done myself. As for the stamp, no. She asked for us to find a label printing sheet and she'd make the template for us to print, but we haven't found one. And custom postage would be too expensive. We'll keep this monogram for either our favors, or our welcome booklet.

Thanks everyone! I love them so much! I keep the pdf document opened and look at them all the time. Haha I can't wait for FI to print them off at work Monday and to send them off to our guests. :-D Quote: Originally Posted by ewok Wow, those are real pretty! Does the bar code scans as special word? I don't know yet if I want to tell my guests or keep it our little secret... Maybe I should turn this into a little quiz on our website. Haha

Speaking of which, my invitations and STDs are finally done!!! I posted pictures here: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...ns-stds-56895/

Thanks! Is it much different than the pictures of the map that can be found on trip advisor?

I always said I'd never get a tattoo for a guy, but... I think I may be changing my mind. If I do get a symbol representing our relationship, I really want to get the star fish from our monogram/boarding pass. I'd probably get it on my ankle, as my back would look too busy and not classy anymore if I got any more there.

We have decided to send our formal invitations over a year before our wedding to give people the time to get vacation time & book their trip. We've also decided to send a "Save The Date" sort of as a keepsake. FI's cousin is a graphic designer and has offered to them for us and she did an AMAZING job!!!!! They are not printed yet, but are what they look like: This will be folded vertically (gate fold), kinda like a brochure.

Ooohh, I love the idea of getting one in the mail every few days or every week!!! When you read all the comments at once, they all start to blur together and you lose the excitement. This is a great idea to keep the excitement going.

There wasn't a hurricane, but there was some sort of storm that brought little rain, but lots of clouds and lots & lots of wind. The beach was closed 6 of the 7 days we were there, as the sea was too rough. You couldn't even stay on the beach, as the sand would pinch your skin. Even when the sun came back the wind did not die down until the day we were leaving. The two days without wind (arrival and departure!) were awesome though!!! It wasn't enough to make me have a bad time, and I have returned to Cuba twice since, and am getting married there next year. :-) Hope you have better weather than I had...

where did my my threads go??
RonNMel replied to meredithlang's topic in Bugs, issues or "how to" navigate forum questions.
I'm not sure how things can be better. There is a lot of help, lots of sticky, and it's well organized, but... that's just it, there is a LOT of help. It's a lot of information to take in when you first sign in, and it can get overwhelming for a newbie. I already had "forum" experience, so I knew most of the basics, but even then there was no way I could retain all the useful information all at once. After a while all this info just blurs together, and some will only make sense when you actually need it, which might not be right as you sign up. Plus, I remember when I first found this website I was so happy with all the destination wedding info that I just wanted to jump in. So all I could suggest is to continue to be patient with the newbies and remember that, though they might have read part of the rules/FAQ, it might take them some time before they can read it all or have it all make sense to them. :-) -
ILA Brides, what do you have planned so far for your big day?
RonNMel replied to Barrierunner's topic in Cuba Weddings
I just saw a review today from someone who just got married at ILA. They had 63 guests, and they said everything went well. I want to message them to egt more info, I'll try to get them to come post a review and pictures here. :-) -
Guest assumes they can bring someone
RonNMel replied to classadiva's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
My MIL just did that. Apparently they were suppose to go to Cuba or Republic Dominican this year with two couples, but had to cancel to save the money to come to our wedding. So she asked us if she could invite those two couples to Cuba with us. FI sort of knows them from when he was younger, so he said yes. At least she offered to pay for their meals. -
"Good Friend" bails out of wedding to get a dog?

But I just feel like, although they are our good friends, we can't expect them to put their life on hold or not be able to do anything that they want to do just because they have to save all of their money for our wedding. Exactly. My parents, yes I would expect them to make an extra effort to be able to attend my wedding. Other than that, nobody else should feel "obliged" to come and have to give up everything they want that could cost money just so they can be there for MY day. I'd love for all of them to be there, but that's all I can do, hope. -
Sent you a PM. :-)

A wedding sure makes you realize who is important to you!
RonNMel replied to Mrs.Hockey's topic in Just venting or funnies
That sucks. It's never pleasant to realize that your friends are not really your friends anymore. I went through a similar experience for my first wedding, but with family. My godfather had told me they wouldn't make it (it was not a destination wedding, it was in the same town) because they were too tired taking care of his wife's father. Fine. Then the day of I'm outside taking picture and in my grandparents' backyard (we were all neighbors back then) and I see them on their balcony and they did not even come to congratulate me. The family has been divided ever since. -
I know, the English language can be confusing at times. Hahaha Exactly! It's really worth it though. It looks so much better than if we had DIY, which was what we were gonna do. Did you ever post a pic of your invitations/STDs here?
