  1. We are second guessing our decision of choosing Cuba, especially now if it's true that the notary cost has increase. But we too are worried about the price of a wedding in the Dominican. The base price is quite high and it seems like everything is an extra. We are expecting around 40 people. We do not want a private reception, but just make sure that our entire group gets to eat in the same restaurant at the same time. We are a bit overwhelmed at the idea of going through all the research for DR after doing it for Cuba. Anybody can point us in the direction of a few reasonably priced resorts/wedding packages?
  2. I'd be interested to know about that too.

And where in Cuba are you getting married? We were married in Cuba too. Hello!! We are hesitating between Iberostar Varadero and Iberostar Laguna Azul, both in Varadero. I've been to Cayo Coco once and liked it. But for our wedding, we like the fact that there is a bit more to do if ever people want to leave the resort for the day. I'm still in the early stages of planning, so not too many specific questions yet. We found an awesome travel agent. My main concern right now is which document do I really need since we are both divorced, as everywhere I look I get a different answer. Hopefully I may be able to get a straight answer at the Cuba booth at the wedding salon this week-end. Thanks for the offer to help, I'll be sure to contact you if/when the need arises!
  4. Great to know that Ghost Cat is doing well and adapting to its new family. :-)
  5. My FI said I could buy them. Before I get too excited though, I'd like to know how much the shipping would come up to. Maybe we could arrange details by PM?
  6. I mostly want to go to look at wedding bands, look at what they have to offer dress wise (it's a bit too early for me to try anything on anyway) and get into the "wedding atmosphere". I know I probably won't find much, but I'm excited to go anyway. Plus, if you go to their website only you can print a 10$ off coupon, so it makes going not expensive at all. :-)
  7. Lucky you, you get the chance to visit some resorts before making your choice! Congratulations, welcome to the forum, and happy planning!
  8. I totally understand how you feel. At first the reviews for the resort we want, Laguna Azul, were all mostly positives, with only a few things going wrong. That was to be expected though, as it is a very new resort. But then when November came there were a LOT of bad reviews. There even were bad reviews for our second choice, the Iberostar Varadero. So like you we started to panic, wondered if we are making the right choice, etc. But then we calmed down and reminded ourselves that for every person who writes a review, there are hundreds who went and didn't write one. Like others have said above, people will mostly write if something went really wrong or really good, but not the ones in between. Even us, we've both been to AIs before (separately), had a good experience, and didn't write about it. I know it's hard to relax, as even to this day I still sometimes question our choice. But really, relax. It is YOUR day, and if you love the place than that is all that counts. The people who are easy going will love your wedding week no matter what, and the whiner will find something to complain about no matter what. Don't sweat about them, and focus on the ones who will enjoy it just as much as you. :-)
  9. Congratulations! We decided on Cuba for the price and beautiful beaches, and the month of May because of nice weather and lower prices. Look around this forum, and post in the specific destinations sub-forums, I'm sure you'll find plenty of information and people ready to help you. :-) Have fun planning!
  10. The only thing I'd be interested to buy would be the sashes. My budget ia really small (in fact, we are not even suppose to buy anything in terms of decoration, but what FI doesn't know won't hurt him. ) so I can't justify paying that price.
  11. like!! Going on excursions in nature while traveling?
  12. Congratulations and happy planning!
  13. Anyone going to the bridal salon this week-end or the one at the end of January?
  14. Congratulations and have fun planning!
  15. Well be sending a boarding pass invitation/save-the-date mix about a year before, and include on another sheet all the booking information. No other formal invitation, I don't see the point as I'll already know by then who's coming by looking at who will have booked. Then a few weeks before the wedding we're thinking of sending a "Get ready for Cuba" booklet, to get everyone excited about the trip (totally stole this idea from someone on this site). As for our AHR, if we do one it will be VERY informal and casual, so I think we'll just be sending an email invitation.
  16. So far I'm leaning towards fuschia, bright orange and turquoise. But it might change once I go shopping and see what colors look great for my maid of honor's dress.
  17. Congratulations and welcome to the forum. Have fun planning!
  18. Ewok, none of the stores on Plaza St-Hubert carrie Maggie Destination? When I looked at the store locator of their website, they mentioned a few of those sores. Though they could be carrying just other collections by Maggie.
  19. Welcome to the forum! Good job on finding a resort in one day. It's been 4 months and I still have second thoughts. LOL
