    noob!

Welcome! Have fun planning and enjoy this forum...so much great information.
  8. Exactly the thread I needed to read tonight! I have been working on the AHR recently as with our wedding in November I think I need to get a venue booked back here asap to avoid the Christmas party craze. But as I got further into the planning and meeting with venues I started to realize that it was turning into exactly the type of wedding we were trying to avoid by going away! The big hall, the catered food, the receiving line, the head table... all things that neither of us really want. What we really want is a casual bbq at our farm with people welcome to bring their RVs and stay for breakfast the next morning. Obviously can't be done in November in Alberta sooo.... I am glad to read here that others have waited on the weather. Now I am thinking wedding in Nov, AHR in June or July - perfect!! AND I just spent the evening with my FMIL and had a good talk with her and discovered that she doesn't really feel the need to have a big "formal" reception - I was under the impression that it was important to her as she has a big family but not at all! Yay!! She thinks a bbq party next summer is a great idea... now for my mother!
  9. Congrats Jill! Have fun! We will be watching for a review in the near future from the new Mrs.!
  10. WOW!!! The colours, the dress, the guest book platter, the starfish wine stoppers... I love it all. Amazing job!
  11. Hey echo2 - I have looked at Westjet and from what I can see they don't offer direct flights until into Dec or maybe later Nov. Up until then you have to fly through Toronto which makes for a much longer trip. I do have a TA who I am not very happy with as she doesn't seem to know anything beyond what I can find out on the web myself. May have to change that!
  12. Wow!! 2015 is a long ways away... 2012 is lots of extra time for her to adapt I would say! Definitely stick to your choices - this is about you and your FI. It is not like you are 17 and announced your marriage and with 3 1/2 years dating I would think she has had lots of time to see this coming! I have had the exact opposite problem from everyone including my FI! When I suggested fall 2010 as a date he was surprised and thought we would get married this Feb or Mar after getting engaged in Oct! Ahhh, the simplicity of boy's minds sometimes... I explained that wasn't going to work and since we have both waited 30 odd years before getting married another year or so wasn't going to make much difference!
  13. Karen - sounds like a great time! I have been wondering how I am going to get my FI to the TTD the next morning... I just know he will overdo it! Have you posted a review of your wedding on here? I am thinking of Punta Cana and have considered the Majestic. Question for you being from Sylvan - I am in Red Deer and was orginally pretty convinced that I wanted to go to Punta Cana but then got lookin at flights and am now thinking that Puerto Vallarta might be a better/easier option. Did you have direct flights? It seems like there are more options from Calgary & Edmonton to Mexico than DR or Jamaica.
  14. Glad I am not the only one!! I have been worrying about this too. I get emotional so easily - sometimes even the national anthem brings tears to my eyes!! Ridiculous! I don't know how I am going to get through it either, my dad gave a speech at the engagement party and it just about did me in. I have to think about other things but then I feel that I am not really paying enough attention and I am afraid that makes me seem "out of it"... I guess I will just have to wear very waterproof mascara and have powder on hand to cover up the sure to be red nose!
  15. Congratulations! Check out the reviews of Dreams PC brides - there are lots of great pics and information. I am thinking of Dreams PC too.
  16. Congratulations and welcome! I love Vegas... we stayed at the MGM last year for a trip and it was amazing. The lazy river in the pool area was our fav.
  17. Congratulations! Enjoy the journey!

    Hi!

    Welcome! Happy planning...
  19. Congratulations and welcome! Tons of ideas and information from past brides on here to help you find your way. Have fun planning!
  20. Welcome! There are a ton of inspiring ideas on here for anyone thinking about a DW - you can't help but get excited to have one!!
  21. We are trying to keep our AHR from getting too formal but it is a bit of a struggle sometimes! TeNeil - I love your idea of calling it a celebration rather than reception. We are thinking of a very similar style as yours. We want to greet people at the door so we get a chance to say hello to everyone and thank them for coming (we are trying not to refer to it as a receiving line but really.... lol!). We want people to mingle for an hour or so with drinks and hors d'oeurves then we will sit down for a brief program - some short toasts, our thank yous to everyone and then the wedding video. Then let the dancing begin! Cake cutting and late lunch at some point. TeNeil - you said you aren't doing dinner so what time are you starting? I want to make it clear that there isn't dinner so people don't arrive starving and gobble up too many appies! I will put cocktails and hors d'oeurves on the invitation and am thinking of starting around 7.
  22. Hey ladies, Hope you all have great weddings and can't wait to hear the reviews! Have fun!! Great info about the safes - something to remember.
  23. I am falling for Playa Fiesta!! I started out thinking that for sure we would be going to Punta Cana and then started reading reviews on this site. Now Playa Fiesta and Las Caletas are my two tops!! Question for those of you who have been to PF - in some photos it looks like there is some nice sand and others are totally rocks - same beach different tidal time or different beach? Also, I see kids in some of the wedding pics but can they stay at the hotel or were they just there for the wedding day? I am not sure about staying there for a week with our small group but maybe a week at Dreams and then a wedding weekend at PF or something like that.
  24. Everyone on here is great for bouncing ideas off of so be sure to visit often! Definitely sit down and make a list of what YOU want and stick to it. It is so easy to get sidetracked by everyone else's ideas and wants. I hope Melidell is right about the wedding obsession easing after a bit so that life returns to normal - I am starting to dream about reception sites and flowers...!!!
  25. How did I not know about Etsy??!! Thank you girls for the great finds... As if I don't spend enough time on the computer searching BDW, now I have another site to keep me up too late!!
