  1. WOW!!! What an amazing job you've done! Everything looks great...Congratulations and good luck with the wedding!
  2. i started planning mine just about a year in advance. i really don't think you need more time than that. prices aren't out, you can't send your guests anything, and you can't book your actual wedding date with the resort before that time. i guess it's never too early to look up ideas and just browse and see what is available and what others are doing.
  3. That's what I figure. She's staying at the resort so I don't think it'll be a big deal...no one has to know she's a professional!
  4. I did mine photoshoot a couple of weeks ago and will be giving it to him the day of our wedding.

I think that only applies if they're not a guest at the resort, if they're just on a day pass. If they're a guest then they'd be allowed and you don't have to pay the extra fee.

At this point in time it is not clear how these restrictions will be enforced and not even the WC's are clear are when they have to start implementing these restrictions. I asked for an exception to the rule for one of my clients that booked way befor ethis started and the response was that they are not even sure when this policy will be implemented. Do you know if this applies to the Riu Negril as well?
  7. I've emailed Dionne at Riu Negril and the free package is available for 2011. From looking on the website, the free package is not available in 2010. For whatever reason, it's available next year. I've also reserved the steakhouse and entertainment equipment for my private reception.
  8. This is the first I've heard of an outside photographer not being allowed in our rooms. Hmm...not sure what I'll do about that. We have someone coming down for us. Maybe I'll just say she's a friend who's taking pictures and is a guest at the wedding. Just won't mention the word photographer. We'll see what happens. I'll definitely have to look in to the free wedding package. The WC at the head office told me I could so I will clarify that with Dionne at the Riu Negril. Thanks for the info ladies...definitely good to be prepared!
  9. Thanks for the review, sounds like you had a great time. Congratulations!!! You didn't by any chance check out the Riu Negril as well? How does it compare?

We will share all the details with you on our experience. Can't wait for the review! I was told by the WC at their main office that it does offer a free package and that was what I signed up for. Not sure if there's difference between this year and next.
  11. i sent out my std's a year in advance and then sent out the invites once i got pricing from a travel agent. on the invites i included all the booking info and when my guests needed to put their deposits down....ended up being 8 months before the wedding.

  13. We're having a full, private reception but that's only because we're expecting such a large group (70-80 ppl). I think for a group of 20 ppl then you definitely don't need a traditional reception. You can be more relaxed and just have fun!

  15. I"m not really having a wedding party, just my sister as my MOH. We're having his sister as our MC. I think she was a bit disappointed to not be a bridesmaid so that's the role we found for her. She was pretty excited to be included. Maybe you can have them be in charge on the day of the wedding to make sure everything goes the way you want it to be, sort of keep the WC in check. It's something minor but they may feel more included. Are there any other minor jobs they can be in charge of?
  16. I'm getting married at the Riu Negril. I chose it because: -it was an economical choice for all my guests -they offer a free wedding package -it's affiliated with Riu Palace, if some guests wanted to stay there -has pretty good online reviews -know others who have been there and loved it -have had excellent service with their wedding dept Good luck with your choice!

As for the wedding package, i'm doing pretty much the exact same thing as you! The free package then upgrade the cake and champagne if needed. Also want the Steakhouse for supper. That's amazing that you already have 40 people booked! I can't wait until we actually book and get our save-the-dates out so we can see how many we'll actually get. It's an awesome feeling to have so much done so far and know that so many of our friends and family are able to join us!
