You're so close, January is just around the corner!

I lurked for a long time too before committing and finally signing up! It's a great forum and I KNOW our wedding wouldn't be the same without the help from all these ladies

Congrats on the vow renewal! You'll get so much helpful information from this site. Happy planning.

Ohhh La Zebra...awesome choice!! My wedding is in about 3 weeks at Dreams Tulum. Can't wait...our weddings are so close!!

I haven't done a lot of research on that resort, but there's LOTS of reviews on this site if you do a search from past brides. Good luck!!

Congrats! You've got plenty of time. You're going to have a wonderful wedding

Dreams - Photographer & Music
OceanWonderland replied to AshleyTX's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
I think it really depends on how much you're comfortable spending. You will have a great wedding whether or not you have a DJ or offsite photographer. Personally, we've hired an outside DJ and photographer, just because we want our wedding to go a certain way....BUT we aren't having a reception back at home so that helped make the decision (extra funds for the wedding). The DJ is supposed to be really good for the flow of the reception, announcing the bride and groom, keeping the music flowing. I hired DJ Doremixx in the Riviera Maya region and I think he runs around $800 for 4 hours or so. I think that's pretty typical. But we also have sent him a lot of song suggestions. We also searched VERY hard for a photographer within our price range because I want to have a certain 'look' in the photos that the Dreams photogs can't seem to get. I've heard from a LOT of brides that didn't book a photographer that they wish they had. The guests most likely won't get the types of photos you are looking for. Is there a way to review photos from your Dreams photographer? That could help you make a decision. Good luck!! -
Did you ask him what he wanted to do? Curious if he said he wanted to see it or not. My fiance is adamant he doesn't see the dress before the wedding. It's been in a bag in the closet for months now and he still hasn't taken a peek. I'd be way too curious not to look!! Then again, the whole wedding will be a pretty big surprise for him since I've done most of the planning. It'll be like he's one of the guests hahaha

I agree with having to pay for something...but you have to remember, we are bringing in LOTS of money to the hotel. If we had a wedding at the states, our guests would be spread out over lots of hotels, so I wouldn't expect the hotel(s) to give me anything. Having said that, I have attended out of town weddings of my friends, and stayed at their requested hotel..and the hotel would set up a complimentary cocktail hour EVERY night we were there, for their wedding guests only. A nice thank you for booking all your guests through us from the hotel....which I thought was very nice. Because of this, I do expect the hotel to waiver a few items...nothing crazy. I don't see why I should have to pay $150 base set up + another $3/pp to tie bows to chairs, bows that I purchased and brought from the States. I would feel screwed doing that in the States for sure! Pick a fee, you can either charge me $150 or $3/pp, but not BOTH. Some of these fees aren't even listed in detail in the wedding guide, so it's sort of a surprise when you get your final bill. Also, I don't understand why we can't have 2 entree choices for the dinner. Every wedding in the States I've been to has asked me "Meat, Chicken, or Veggie". When I talk to my guests about how we only get one choice, I'm met with crazy eyes, like how is that possible? Why wouldn't they give you 2 options with 75+ guests? Just meat and fish. A lot of my guests don't eat fish and a lot don't eat meat....so I'm screwed having only one option. They might all get vegetarian lasagna....most expensive lasagna of their lives!

I am soooo frustrated it's ridiculous. I'm getting married in less than a month and I sent in the form they require you to fill out (details on ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, menu, flowers, cake, etc). All I know is that I should have booked at ANY other Dreams Resort than Tulum. It is ABSURD. It's too late for me to do anything now, but once I get back and write a review, I will make sure it is clear to future brides that they don't give a shite about us, it's all about the almighty dollar. $$$$$ I'm bringing in 75+ guests. You would think they'd cater to me somewhat. Instead it's "No we can't do that". "Yes, we can do that but it will be another $300 or $25/pp", and other lame excuses. If I don't have a cocktail hour, why can't you credit that money ($25 x 20 people covered in Ultimate package) to the dinner reception. And instead of cocktail hour I told her me and my guests will just sit around the lobby bar. And she said we CAN'T do that!! What the hell are you talking about? We are paying to drink and eat whenever we want at an all-inclusive resort. Who cares if we are all together at the same time waiting for our private event to begin? We are just sitting around a bar ordering our own drinks. Why is the buffet menu the same price as the sit down menu, even though we will clearly have less servers and plates and what not. I really have to spend $55/pp for a BUFFET?! We get centerpieces (2 of them) with the ultimate package. I asked for the ceremony centerpiece to be flowers on the side of the archway. With a little bit of white tulle. "Oh, that's not provided in your package. That will be $260". I could have sworn previous brides said white tulle was standard and they were fine putting the flowers on the sides. Nothing crazy. Like the size of my bouquet (roses). How is that worth $260? I really wish it was possible to transfer the wedding and our guests to Dreams Riveria Cancun at this time. You read the current reviews and they bend over backwards for you there, they will transfer services, waive some items. But not Dreams Tulum...do NOT trust past reviews. You WILL PAY FOR EVERYTHING!! And I'm not saying I shouldn't pay for wedding details. Believe me, they are getting quite a fair share of money. But when they want another $3/pp to put bows on chairs, and $300 to add table runners and tequila bottles (that I already paid for) to the table as my centerpieces, and won't transfer food for food...well it starts to really grate on you. I just expected if I'm bringing YOUR resort another 75 people that you would try to make me somewhat happy. Is the $300 really gonna kill you to waive? You are getting way more than that from each one of my guests. Sorry to vent, but I HAD to. And I'm sure we'll still have a lovely wedding. But I just want to make it clear that if think they will transfer a service or not try to take more money from you, think again. I don't even want to think what happens if they try to stop my DJ at 9-9:30, who is paid to play for one more hour. Imagine, $15/pp x 75 more people just to dance for one more hour! This is ridiculous.... Just don't book your wedding at Dreams Tulum based off the first 100-200 pages of this thread. Really read the last 100 pages or so and see the current theme. Hindsight. P.S. I'm not trying to scare brides already booked, our weddings will be fabulous. I just want everyone to know what they are getting into. Stick to the wedding guide 100% and don't expect them to waver whatsoever on anything. Maybe that was my mistake..
