  1. Hi Elise! Congrats and welcome to the forum. I'm sure that many brides will have good suggestions for you!
  2. Hi! I looked at a lot of hacienda options in Mexico (I love them!) but I don't recall seeing any with a gazebo. Many of them though did have the nice garden feel. We decided not to go with this type of resort based on cost and location (we wanted to be by the sea), but it's hard to get the same feel and charm anywhere else. Best of luck!
  3. wow, that is stunning! I love the gold on you, I think that it looks great!

Thanks Kate, hopefully it will turn out fine. We need to pick a date and then find someone that is available on that day! We will be going it here though, even with everything considered it should be easier. We're also thinking of doing it at home - it would be sweet to get married where we got engaged! Should make for good photos too!
  5. Yet another random question - I fully trust Blaire, but my wedding is at 7pm! It feels quite late... If I estimate for a 30 minute ceremony, with the cocktail party that brings us at 8:45 for dinner (15 minutes after sunset, apparently). Does anyone else feel that this is weird? Or too late?
  6. Thank you everyone! We will definitively be looking at doing it legal in Vancouver, possibly at home. Could be fun!
  7. It's your wedding and your day, go with the one you love! My mom was also not the biggest fan of my dress, but you can't deny a bride's glow - they'll see that you've made the right choice when you walk down the isle!
  8. Wow, great review! Everything looks fantastic and I'm glad that most of it went as planned. Congrats!
  9. So... did anyone do the legal wedding at PF? Or did everyone get married back home first? I was hoping to get married at city hall first but I just learned last night that you can't do that in British Columbia (weird, I know). I'm wondering how getting the legal part done was? How much extra work was it? What would you recommend? I have to decide now between a legal marriage in Mexico or a legal ceremony here (where I'd have to find and book a location and a commissioner) and which would be easier. Thanks for the help!
  10. Her script is lovely! I will be contacting her to see if / when she is available - if we still choose on doing the legal part here. Thank you for all of the info, it is very helpful!
  11. Looks fantastic! You did so much work, it's incredible!
  12. Sorry, I stayed at the Decameron when I went. Panama was lovely, although we didn't explore much of it. I really want to go back though and explore the San Blas area - it looks out of this world!

The woman we used was GREAT...she lives in Kits point and will even let you use her house for the ceremony, or her garden:-) Or, you can go across the street and get married at Kits Beach, it's literally across the street:-) This is what we did:-) Then we walked up to 4th avenue and had dinner at Pinky's Steakhouse with our witnesses - you need two - to celebrate:-) . Thank you, yes, I would love to know who you used! I know that I can keep it easy but I wanted easier - i.e., just show up! It's just weird that they don't have that option available. I always had this thing in the back of my head where a city hall wedding was a valid backup plan (anytime I'm frustrated) and now I can't even have that! Haha. FI suggested that we ask the commissioner to come to city hall to marry us? Could be funny!
  14. We are getting married in Mexico and figured that it would be much easier to get married at home here in Vancouver and have a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. Less paperwork, no blood test, no hassle. I *assumed* that like anywhere else we could just go down to City Hall one day and get married. Quick, simple, get it over with. Well, it looks like I was wrong. Unlike anywhere else I have been to or heard of (I'm not from Vancouver, neither is FI) you can't get married at City Hall. I can get a marriage license, but I can't get married. From what I understand, I have to book a marriage commissioner separately to get married. This means that I would have to 1) find a location 2) shop around for a commissioner, etc. I just want something easy! I'm sooooo frustrated! So, here's where I'm looking for help. I know that many of us on here do the legal wedding prior the destination one - has any BC bride been able to get married at City Hall? Are there any options out there for me so that I don't end up planning two weddings? HELP!!!
  15. Congrats and welcome to the forum! Happy planning!
  16. Welcome Bree, and congrats! We looked at almost all of the islands and I found that the more touristy ones are usually the most affordable. Of course it depends on what you want, but Mexico, Jamaica and DR were usually more affordable (and easier for guests to get to).
  17. Welcome to the forum and happy planning! You will find lots of info on here to help you along the way.

  20. Hi Jessica, congrats and welcome to the forum! Choosing the location is one of (if not the biggest) decision, it's great once it's out of the way!
