  1. I think $30/$35 is waaay too much! I live in San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. and the MOST I've ever paid for a Mani/pedi is $24 for both. While I was in Cancun, these hotels were advertising that they were looking for waitresses, and stylists to hire, full-time, for the monthly income of $1300 USD. Nobody in Mexico pays $65 for a mani/pedi when they make $1500 working a regular job. I'm all for handing over our money to people who earn it, and I am a big advocate of charging tourists more. I went to India once and this American guy was arguing with a taxi cab over a few rupees that he got overcharged for his taxi ride...the equivalent of 40 cents... that's just wrong. If we have the money then let's pay up........but within reason! That said, here is a spa in downtown Cancun...$10 cab ride there, $10 back. Grand Spa Cancun Masajes Terapia It's Cancun's only 5 star salon...and it's at fair Cancun prices. I have a pricelist so PM me if you want info, here are some examples: Package "Look Great" including: 1hr swedish massage (50mins) 1 balancing facial (45mins) 1 spa manicure and pedicure hair wash and style makeup $1590 pesos = $123 USD. For the day after, they even have a ton of wraps, Agave and Lime, a Mayan Chocolate wrap for $60 for 1 hr. Now that's a price I'm willing to pay, this is almost a 5hr package! Even too much time for me.
  2. Hey what about Himitsu beach? The brochure says total capacity 80...sounds intimate enough! Has anyone checked that beach out? I can't find pictures anywhere...

The old beach was accessible by Dreams guests only, this new one connects with the whole hotel zone strip...I wonder if this means Dreams guests will now have to wear a wrist band. Anyway, it's going to be so much noisier now with a whole new beach full of people...who are not going to leave for a reception by the way. And since I'm on the complaining trail...how much does it suck that people think it's okay to use that little pool by the wedding gazebo and lay out in that pool gawking at your ceremony in their speedos! Looks so funny in pics...jeez people, learn some respect! ok, I'm done..
  4. Am I the only one that kind of misses the old beach? This new one looks so big...and fill it up with a million sunbathers and you have tons more onlookers that previously planned...hmmm On the other hand, I wonder if the wind factor is less, maybe better for beach parties?
  5. I was just thinking about this too! My dream honeymoon would be Morocco, but realistically speaking here, it will be in the riviera maya somewhere. Have you heard of Escencia Luxury Villa? Private pool/jacuzzi, it's supposed to be one of the most romantic secluded places somewhere near Playa del Carmen. It might be pricy though, but a lot more private than big resorts.
  6. I was just there recently (well, okay like 2 months ago) and saw the bulldozer, and honestly did not think it distracted from the beauty of the place, it is gorgeous and one little bulldozer does not even get in the way at all!
  7. Bump! More and more people are skipping cocktail hour in change for more people at the reception dinner. Has anyone done this recently? How many more can u add to dinner in turn for cocktails?
  8. i'm a newbie too, jeez, how many posts before I can download stuff
  9. If you've never had a tres leches cake, I suggest you try it first at home (any mexican restaurant should have it). It is EXTREMELY sweet, sort of like Baklava is, you take a few bites and that's it. It's delicious and one of my favorite cakes, but adding chocolate to it is overkill.
  10. My resort wants $1000 for a 45 minute set! Now that's ridiculous! In California, a great mariachi charges $750/hr, and this is a well known 10 membered band....so they are expensive but should be cheaper in Mexico
