That seems awfully high priced to me too! I guess it makes sense if you consider that there is typically 3 or 4 artists playing in a mariachi. That would be a hundred dollars for each of them for the hour... BUT STILL! $$$$$ crazy!

Here is my rough draft plan right now: Staying at Shangri La Caribe. Great location, great prices, cute little pueblito hotel rooms on the beach instead of a giant palace sized resort. rates include breakfast and dinner. tacos and coronas on the beach for a welcome party. group trip to do a temezcal. (google this if you don't know what it is) very cool. they even do couples temezcal! YAY! ceremony and reception at blucacao beach club. it is out of town so there is no limit on volume or when you have to stop the party (in town you have to shut down the party at 10 or 11... boo!) and an after party downtown playa. I WANT TO DANCE DOWN TOWN IN MY WEDDING DRESS!!! It will be in autumn so I am thinking bronze, rose golds, and coppers for my colors right now. ALL OF THIS MAY CHANGE TOMORROW THOUGH!!! lol

cmathews! i am i am also looking for the same thing in Playa. have you had any luck finding a venue? i am looking into Blucacao Beach Club for my ceremony and reception. it is a little futher out of town and so the beach is more secluded. keep in touch with me. let me know what you find. by the way, i am also a michigander. just recently located to miami to escape the snow. most of our guests will be flying in from the midwest though.

Yes, if you can make the trip out there that would probably work better. Just make sure to make an appointment with them so you know that the time you want your make up done is available. Also make sure to buy atleast a lip gloss as Mac artists work on commission. Best part: The make up application is free!

Sounds like we have similar ideas. We will be staying at Shangri La Caribe but I do not want to have my ceremony or reception there either because I want more flexibility for decorations, volume of music, what time the reception starts and ends, photographer, etc. I am interviewing lots of wedding planners in the area. Have you chosen a wedding planner? Did you decide to go with Blue Parrot? We are looking into having the ceremony and reception at Blucacao Beach Club which is a little bit further out of town (15 min drive). There is no limitations on music volume and the party doesn't have to end at 11 (1am instead). The ceremony is also on a semi secluded beach so I wont have a lot of strangers watching or walking by in the background. I am still looking into other venues so if anyone has ideas for me please let me know!
