  1. Has anyone else here had windscreens for their wedding? If so, did the hotel provide it or did you have to get it through an event planner?
  2. I think you should ask your step dad to participate in the ceremony only if YOU really want to. As other posters suggested, it seems possible to include a role for all the kids and your parents and (presumably) make them all happy this way. However, if you strongly prefer to have your kids only then just save the father-daughter dance for your step dad At my cousin's 2nd marriage, her (now) husband said his vows both to her and to her son. It was so incredibly touching. I think it would be amazing if you and your FH had some words for the kids and then you could assure the kids are REALLY be part of the ceremony!!! haha
  3. katrina - thank you for sharing your review. I have really appreciated hearing both the good and the bad reviews as I prepare for my wedding (even if the negative reviews make me cringe) because at least it helps me and other brides prepare better, and also address these issues with management directly.
  4. Oh, I think the Azul hotels offer this as a cocktail hour option! I think your best bet would be to work with a 3rd party wedding coordinator (and your hotel coordinator - need to make sure donkeys are allowed in the property!!!!!!) to find the perfect donkey.
  5. I posted this question on another thread but there were no takers Hopefully I'll have more luck here! For anyone who has had an outdoor wedding reception on or near the beach: 1. How windy did it get throughout the cocktail hour/reception? Were your guests always comfortable? 2. And more importantly, would you still choose to have an outdoor reception if you could do it over? Why? I am having second thoughts over having my wedding outdoors. Based on the last 2 times I went to Cancun, it was very windy in the evenings and not the ideal environment I would envision for a reception. My FI is pushing the idea but I dont want to risk having my guests be uncomfortable. Plus I HATE being cold!!!! Any thoughts?
  6. I think the centerpiece prices really depend on the flowers you order. If you are trying to stay w/ in a certain budget but are still looking for a particular size, you can always ask the florist to substitute less expensive flowers. A good tip I received was to do a search for centerpiece prices at home and then assume your quotes should come in under that.

I was hoping to send my invitations by the middle of the month but my invitation vendor has been S-L-O-W in responding! It's so frustrating... So now it looks like they probably wont go out until end of April/early May. I realize that's still early but our hotel has reserved our rooms only until the first week of July so people will have about 8 weeks to decide!

  9. Yes! I'm doing this for the ceremony and then removing them for the reception. The seamtress at my bridal salon actually suggested it and she will be taking material to match the dress. I'm actually considering doing a single strap and then removing it for the reception. I would suggest going to any bridal salon tailor or separate high end tailor It seems like an easy adjustment so an experienced tailor should be able to make it for you no problem.
  10. My biggest stress factor (anger?) is dealing w/ Mexico vendors who quote me OUTRAGEOUS prices and are clearly price gouging. Understanding what things cost in LA and NYC, it's ridiculous to receive prices that are 20%, 50% or even 100% more than what I would pay there. I dont know if they have gotten away w/ these prices w/ unsuspecting brides, but there's no way I'm falling for it.
  11. Whatever we play, we will NOT be playing any sad songs, that's for sure. We went to a wedding this past fall and the DJ played several slow heartbreak songs. While I dont normally pay much attention to what's playing in the background, I do remember thinking "wtf?!!!"
  12. You might consider crocheted basket which you can flatten when you pack. Then you can tie ribbons and beading around it to spruce it up! http://www.papermart.com/Product%20P...pID=18986#2997 I saw a show recently where the flower girls rang bells rather than throw flowers which essentially announced that the bride was coming. I LOVED IT!! I think I'm going w/ this idea instead.
  13. I went to Captain's Cove for lunch during a site visit and thought it'd be a nice spot for a rehearsal (granted, the name is a bit cheesy but service and food were good): Captain's Cove Cancun Restaurant: Steak and Seafood Grill - Cancun Restaurant. It has a nice view of the lagoon and it's on the water. W/ regard to pricing, I think you should be very honest w/ the restaurants re: what you can afford and see if they can prepare a special menu for you. Do the quoted prices include open bar?? If so, that's likely why your quotes are so high. Perhaps you may want to restrict drinks to beer and wine for 1-2 hrs or see if they can charge per drink which could be much cheaper if your group isnt full of lushes (like mine!! haha).
  14. PDC is about 30 mins south and Cancun is about 20-25 mins north depending on where in the city you go. Maybe you can contract a van or two for your night out so you dont have to worry about everyone getting cabs! I am not so far along in my planning yet but am contemplating doing this a few days before the wedding (for the "early birds" who get there earlier in the week).
  15. Hi! My resort is also in PM and I can attest that the town is pretty sleepy. However, there are a few cute bars and restaurants that are good alternative if you just want to drink and hang out. By walking around the town square, you'll realize pretty quickly which place is happening that night. However, if you want loud music and dancing, I would lean toward PDC - just seems more manageable w/ a crowd and the "club" strip is very small so it's hard for anyone to get lost!
  16. Yes, I agree that you should communicate to your mutual friends that you do not want these crashers to attend. Frankly, I think your friends would be "enablers" by not discouraging these people to come and implicitly agreeing to hang out w/ them while in Vegas. I'm assuming you're having a destination wedding, in part, to have quality time w/ your guests. I would not hesitate in pulling the guilt trip card and letting them know that your time together would be impeded by these crashers which ruins the purpose of having a destination wedding in the first place! You can also plan several formal or informal events for your guests in the days leading up to the wedding. This makes it clear to your friends that they wont have full days of free time to do whatever, rather they'll have daily commitments to hang out w/ you!
  17. PS. Even if you're not hiring a DJ, they might still be able to provide lighting equipment and I'm betting they'd be cheaper than event planners.
  18. There have been a few mentioned on this board including: Planner1 Events Planner1 Events, EW Cancun EW Events & Weddings, Eventos Euforia Euforia Cancun Wedding Planner - Outdoor Events and Lighting Design I've received some quotes but honestly, the prices have been outrageous. (As in $350 for 10 globe lamps. I can literally buy 10 for $50 online). However, if money is no object, then these companies seem to do a great job, and it looks like they do big corporate events as well. It might be better to work through an independent wedding planner? Sometimes they are able to get better rates b/c of their relationships.
  19. This is the hardest part of the planning process, IMO. You just have to immerse yourself in the search process and keep whittling down based on your checklist of "must haves" or you will drive yourself crazy. In my case, hotel size was a major factor so I started reducing hotels based on that and kept going from there. There's a useful sticky thread in this section w/ various maps of the resorts in the area. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...era-maya-2278/ As for your site preference, I do think the Playacar area is a good alternative. You may also want to consider hotels in Puerto Aventuras and Akumal which are also a little farther down from PDC. Dreams Puerto Aventuras might be a good AI option for you since it's kid friendly and smaller than many of the mega-AI resorts in the region.
  20. I just saw this wedding review on Trip Advisor in case ppl here havent seen it. Very useful! Wedding of my dreams - Review of Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort, Puerto Morelos, Mexico - TripAdvisor
  21. It just occurred to me that I should budget in some $$$ for brunch the day of the wedding, as I will want my BM's to come to my room so we could all get ready together. Hadn't occurred to me this would be an additional cost until recently! The ceremony is around 2 or 3 so we'll have to start relatively early.
