Well, it sounds like you would do best at a larger All Inclusive resort which can offer many bar options and also provide enough entertainment to keep your guests from leaving often!  Not sure if you are looking for adult-only resorts, but that factor will impact the type of late-night bar scene you are looking for. I would focus on the larger AI's first and then start narrowing down based on your other criteria. I definitely recommend checking out Trip Advisor to get a sense of the nightlife of the hotels you are considering.  To get a general list of hotels in the area, check out this link: http://www.rivieramaya.com/index.php?option=com_dirfrm&task=listAll&catid=2&id=10&Itemid=24 Â

To wear, or not to wear....
lalanyc replied to Susan'n'Dean's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I also dont think you need it. You have a beautiful neck! Â My advice would be to buy a necklace if you are nervous about not having one and then RETURN it if you decide not to use it the day of the wedding. Once you see yourself done up (and get your BM's opinions), you may feel more comfortable leaving it out. But I understand not want to have that nagging feeling inside in the meantime... -
Hair and Makeup - Besides Fernando
lalanyc replied to katrina305's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
I am using Lorena Hijuelas - http://www.makeupart.com.mx/. Her prices are still a bit high but I dont think as high as Fernando. Many people have also had positive experiences with artists from Mac in Cancun. Not sure if you are using a local photographer, but if so, I would also ask him/her for recommendations. -
I'm stuck!! What should I say? Add'l guests
lalanyc replied to JanineA's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
OMG, that's terrible!! I agree, it is incredibly rude / crass for guests to ask to bring a guest if they were not invited with one. Clearly, they haven't been together long enough for you to have assumed she even had an S.O.! Â Definitely hold your ground and do not feel bad or apologize. Your "friend" was wrong and immature. Seriously, who throws a hissy fit about not being able to bring a date?? Forget about the money, the more important fact is that you want to spend this special time with your closest friends and not strangers. period. If your friends can't understand that you want to spend time w/ THEM and only THEM, then they don't appreciate your friendship. And they definitely don't appreciate your friendship if they are willing to let their flavor of the month get in the way. You are better off... -
I was able to follow up w/ them too. Even though flights are currently planned to operate as scheduled, they did advise to call them about 4-5 weeks before the departure dates b/c they may decide to eventually cancel those flights. If that's the case, they would need to re-book people on flights through partners carriers. Not very comforting but I guess there's not much we can do for now....

Honestly, I did not enjoy my experience at Kleinfelds at all. Both my friend (also a bride) and I made appointments on the same day with different consultants and they were not very helpful in terms of understanding what we were looking for. They simply brought out the dresses that we printed out from the website and then had us go into the stock room (which is a zoo) to figure out what else we liked -- all the while, elbowing other brides who were also crowded in there. The dresses I tried on at Kleinfelds were my least favorite of everything I tried on in NYC. HOWEVER, if you are looking at Pnina then you should have no problem given their selection. Nevermind that it's so fun to see all the staff from Say Yes to the Dress!! It felt like being surrounded by celebrities! If your budget is on the higher end, I would also recommend Mark Ingram (I have several friends that have raved about it). Definitely also check out the other unique boutiques that NY has to offer: http://nymag.com/weddings/listings/gowns/. I bought my dress from The White Gown which is a small, moderately priced boutique in Brooklyn (DUMBO). The girls were incredibly nice and the assistant who helped me also does alterations so she was helpful in explaining how I could customize certain dresses. I highly recommend them: http://thewhitegown.com/.

Has anyone booked or have guests that booked flights through them? I tried calling their hotline but I'm disconnected immediately! Has anyone managed to get through? It looks like flights based out of the U.S. will be affected. eeeek! Would love to have my guests' flights transferred so they dont have any problems!

Not at all! Just take your list and focus on one thing at a time! Our order of priority was: securing priest, sending STDs, setting up website, photographer, DJ, makeup, florist.... List is a lot longer but those were the initial tasks! It's a lot of work, especially if you want to do serious diligence on the vendors. Will you be going back for a planning trip?? If so, I would focus on setting up appointments rather than trying to make final decisions now. You do still have a lot of time so unless there is a certain vendor you MUST have, I wouldn't fret just yet.

Congratulations on a successful transition! Growing pains are tough but it's all for the best. Thank you! -
WOW, I can't believe anyone would say that!!! trashiness is dictated by the people. A couple could have a trashy wedding in Beverly Hills! Maybe your guests are projecting their own fears about themselves!! Don't let them get you down. Make them eat their words when they're wowed by what a great experience your wedding will be.

That looks beautiful! I had to google what "jumping broom" was though. Never heard of til today!!

Yes, I did get one great review from another bride. Overall, I got the sense that he's a very traditional DJ and he's def on the pricier side (part of a production company). I chose Mannia b/c I wanted the latest music and someone who could get the crowd going w/ great mixes and a very wide variety of music. However, if you want something more standard and dont mind the price, I think he could do a fine job.

The woman had some really good tips about different makeup. I brought in a picture of a celebrity with similar makeup to what I want, and she did my makeup similarly to that and told me everything she was doing/using in the process. Hopefully I can replicate at least some of it.. Thanks again everyone!!! check out online videos that take you step by step through the process so you can understand best practices and also so you can do trials on yourself!!

I found a few but they all had mixed reviews.

To Facebook or not to Facebook...
lalanyc replied to fallfromgrace's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I waited to notify those closest to me first and actually removed wall posts congratulating me in order to avoid having close relatives from finding out before I could call them. However, everyone communicates differently and if announcing through FB was your preferred way of telling people, then they just have to deal w/ it! -

We are using YourCancunDMC.com and they are charging: Round trip: $100.00 US (1 - 3 people) Round trip: $110.00 US (4 - 8 people) They set up a personalized website for our guests to input their arrival info which I thought was pretty cool. We are expecting a lot of ppl though so this is prob not necessary for smaller parties.

It took me that many trials to realize I didnt want the "smoky" look!!! (duh) I first blamed the makeup artists style but realized my directions were the problem!! So now I am going to try for a 4th trial using the natural look and hopefully will finally nail it. While I also had a hair trial during my last visit, it wasnt exactly what I wanted to I'm considering going to my local stylist and even trying out someone at Super Cuts (or some other very cheap salon) in the hopes of getting good pictures to show my day-of stylist. As for hurricanes, heck yes I'm worried - esp after the reports that this is expected to be an active hurricane season. Ours is not a big resort so even if something happens in October, I'm nervous things wouldnt be repaired in time for our wedding. Hence, I made my FI buy insurance!! Indeed, I am a BZ.

OMG w/ less than 4 months to go I am having a panic attack b/c I just got back from vacation and undid the measly 3 lbs I had managed to lose before then (in fact, I think I gained weight!!!). What are you all doing to get in shape? Are you just hitting the gym or using trainers?? I was considering doing the P90x but I think a live person might be more effective...
