  1. Hey Stephanie! I'm so glad you posted on this thread! Most of the other posts here are fairly old and so I didn't know if this thread would be "revived" any time soon, and I was really wanting to talk to some other girls who are booking with PP. That would be so great to see photos! I know there are a lot already posted here, but I think you would agree with me that you can never see too many pics to ease your mind! ; ) Especially considering I haven't been there for a site visit, and due to money I probably won't go. I've pretty much made all of my decisions based on what I've heard from this message board, hotel websites, and number calls/emails to Mexico! Since I posted that message I have been in contact a lot with PP and we are in the final steps of booking with them. They are going to give us the same deal (free private functions and free nights) so it was pretty much a no-brainer for us to book with them. Plus every time I've talked with them or emailed them they have been SO nice and quick to respond. It hasn't been that way with all of the other places I've tried contacting. Planning so far away, I go a LOT off of gut feelings and they definitely made me feel comfortable. We just got our contract as well, and if you don't mind me asking, what rates are they offering you? We are looking to have about the same number of people (70-80) so it sounds as though we are in kinda the same boat. We may have somewhat different inclusions though, considering we are not having our actual wedding there and I'm assuming you're getting a wedding package through PP? I've totally seen pics of people doing that "parade" down 5th! It looks so fun! My brothers are playing guitar for our wedding, but I'm sure I could make them learn some Mariachi stuff! ; )
  2. Oh my gosh, it's beautiful!! There is no way that wouldn't stand out! In fact, I'm a HUGE fan of chiffon. I think that if you want any sort of romantic look that it is definitely the way to go.

I have not heard anything negative about how brides are treated from the wedding staff in Mexico. If you're just booking rooms at the resort, you won't need to go through the WCs. This can be done directly through you or your TA and the resort or tour operator. Does that help at all? Immensely! Thank you!

That's right, I knew about the erosion, I guess I just misspoke. So then are the wc's in michigan through the resort or are they an independant business? Like if I were to book rooms directly through the resort, would I bypass some of these communication errors?Sorry for the ignorance, this is new to me and I've read this whole thread but I think I may have missed this part!
  5. I've been stalking this thread for awhile now, and I have to say, between the outrageous and unstable fluctuations in prices (ie: outside vendor fee going WAY up) and the inconsistent communication between you ladies and the resort, I think I'm going to book my rooms elsewhere. It sounds like it's been a great place for the ladies that have made it work, but also sounds like you kinda have to go through planning hell to reach the end product. I have recently spoke with my WC (not from the Royal or Gran Porto) and she gave me a couple other places to look at, after expressing my concern regarding the Royal. At this point in time I'm thinking I'm going to go with Playacar Palace. It's not right on the beach, however it is right off of 5th ave and I think I'm going to get a great deal. If we book 25 rooms we get unlimited private functions (welcome dinner, rehearsal dinner, reception, cocktail, etc.) AND 7 nights free for the bride and groom. That in itself is enough to hook me! A reception alone at the Gran was looking to be about $1,500 for us, even if all our guests are staying there!

Just something to keep in mind, and this is way out of left field, but when I was in Cancun on vacation we were told not to drink beer unless it was out of a bottle/can (or unless at your resort, but still be somewhat cautious) due to the whole "Don't Drink the Water" thing. Just a little FYI!
  8. Hello all! I am not new to BDW but I am new to this Playacar Palace thread. We were looking into staying at either the Royal or the Gran Porto, but after hearing the promotional deal that PP is offering (the free unlimited functions/free rooms) I looked into a possible switch. That would be a GREAT money saver for us, considering one private function at the Gran Porto was looking to be about $1,500. We are not having our actual wedding ceremony at the hotel, but instead at a little catholic church on 5th avenue. Because of this I wasn't sure if we would still qualify for the room/free function deal. I am waiting for Juan Carlos to email me the proposal and then I guess we'll go from there! If anyone has any specific advice or tips for me at this point in the planning process (ie: things to be sure to include in the contract, questions to ask, etc.), I'd love to hear them!
