Issues/Questions/Concerns/Safety Traveling to Mexico? POST HERE!
yeya99 replied to LCBride2007's topic in Honeymoon Forum
I almost canceled my wedding because of all the bad Mexican press & pressure from my family expressing safety concerns in México. I thought about it long and hard and in the end I decided to stick to my plans. Our wedding went on and my husband and I had the time of our lives. Though not as many guests showed up as had RSVP due to the media sensation that gave Mexico really bad press, we had the wedding of our dreams. None the less our day came and went and it was MAGICAL. My father did not go but my mother did and in the end the few people that did show up really showed me that they genuinely cared and wanted to be there for our special day. My mom was a bit antsy because we had lots of things going on for our guests. However we made sure all hotels were close to each other and we provided transportation where ever we could. We hosted a welcome cocktail at the Aavlon followed by a Mayan ceremony. One of our wedding guests did have her purse stolen, as she left it unattended on the beach at night. This happened while we were all on the beach late at night having cocktails and dancing to brazilin drums so no one heard or saw anything. So just be careful where you leave things laying around. Luckily only a cell phone and make up were lost. The following day we had our Catholic ceremony at the Gran Caribe Real- Cancun. The chapel was amazing everyone always felt safe. It really is a great hotel. Again my mom was a bit worried as we did not host the reception on site, and she wanted everything to be in the tourist area, to feel safer. Unfortunately I did not plan it that way. We were married in a catholic chapel on the beach but I wanted a true authentic Mexican wedding in an hacienda. We shuttled everyone just outside of Cancun to a private estate to the reception location. It was a 30 min drive. At the end of all the partying which was in the weee hours of the morning the next day( all guests were again dropped off at the door of their respective hotels drunk and hung over with swollen dancing feet. Everyone was nice and relaxed and had a good time. The hacienda is not in the tourist area what so ever but it was a private residential estate so everyone felt equally safe. In the end we had the wedding of our dreams, I just wish that we had not already paid for all the people that RSVP and did not show up. Many backed down too close to the wedding date so we could not get our money back as far as the catering was concerned. We could have easily saved 4k on food alone. None the less getting married in Cancun was the best decision we ever made. We splurged on caviar to lobster tails, cigar rollers and fireworks to fire dancers unlimited international open bar accompanied with a variety of dishes and desserts for the dinner. We then had even more food and drinks for an after party and live band, live mariachi, it was by far the best thing we could have ever done. We had a fairy tale Mexican wedding that we would have NEVER been able to afford in the US. I planned the wedding of my dreams and IM GLAND that I had the support of this forum to help me stay sane and not throw all the plans I made for over a year due to everything I saw and heard in the news and from relatives. (I was so very close) To sum it all up go to México and live your dream. We were all super safe and NOW EVERY ONE THAT DID NOT GO AND after SEEING the pics of our wedding, seeing how calm and safe everything was, are kicking themselves in the butt. My email is inundated with apologetic emails from people expressing how much they regret not attending. They missed out on going to beautiful Cancun and having a blast! 1 day b4 the wedding here are tid bits of our mayan cremony and welcome cocktail, and us arriving to the hacienda the day of the wedding. Getting ready the BIG day and TTD session. -
Since I started this thread I think its only fair to say that my wedding went on and my husband and I had the time of our lives. Just got married Dic 30 in Cancun and I have lots of these extra masculineitems for the oot bags. I have 40 Axe Minis for men left. Each set consist of Axe Dry Deodorant stick (Clix) scent and comes with the Axe instinct deodorant body spray. I don’t want to break the Lot up. I just want to get rid of the whole box in one go. They are super cute and are great items for men going to your destination wedding. Most OOT bags are filled with items that girls would appreciate, but these were a great hit with the guys. The guys at our wedding in Cancun young and old appreciated having something in the bag that they could easily use and the body spray smells really nice just like cologne. I’m sure you all have seen the commercials of the guy spraying the axe on and the girls chasing after them. LOL Axe does not disappoint. If you live in Houston you can pick them up or I can ship them to you. Buyer pays for extra shipping cost. Asking $1.5 per set. $60 dls total. I paid 2 dls per set so your getting a good deal. All items are new and up opened. First come first serve. Message me if interested. Here is a pic of the mini sets! SUPER CUTE AND SMELL GREAT!!! Thanks

I am at a loss. I have been my planning my wedding for such a long time and now 90% of my wedding party has bailed out on me. Even my own parents and family members do not want to go to Mexico. They keep seeing the news every day and all the reports about Mexico seem to be about how horrible and dangerous Mexico has gotten. Every day they literally bring me to tears asking me to cancel my wedding or move it to a safer country. Aft first I used to think its ok things will get better but it seems that now that we only have a 2 months away for me wedding the situation down there is getting worse. First it was kidnappings and rapes and now the shootings and horrific things have spread from border towns are now Cancun itself. First we planned for a 100 guest wedding then things in Mexico started to freak people out and then our guest were down to half. NOW I have about 20 and not even my family is up for going. =9( I dont know if I should cancel and move the wedding to another country all together as every one is really concerned because they constantly keep stressing me out about the whole situation as if it was my fault. What should I do should I cancel the wedding? My father refuses to go and says that Im putting every ones lives in danger when even the US warns its citizens about traveling to Mexico at this time. It does not help either that it came out on the news that they found 50 dead bodies in a pit someplace in cancun and that some through a an explosive at a club in cancun also!. aggggggggggggggggggggggggg Im just in tears and dont know what to do. Is any one else facing the same situation? I really dont know what to do. PLEASE HELP. Especially would love to hear from people who are there now or have just recently returned home fron a trip down there.

Im getting married there in December and recent brides have any reviews? I called the actual catholic coordinator and she floored me when she told me that they don't have rehearsals!!! that part as me a bit worried because when will we actually get to pic the readings and when will the readers know its time to get up and read if we don't do a run through the day before. If any one has recently gotten married there please let me know who it plays out. Thanks!

Hi Simba I will be getting married in the Gran Caribe chapel in a few months. I called and spoke to lupe ramos as she is in charge of all the paper work for the catholic ceremony. She is the church wedding coordinator. The problem is that she was not very helpfull. She told me that they dont have rehersals so that worried me a bit. Also how did you do it to pic the readings? She told me they give them to me the day before to pic out! Again a major panic attack because I have to ask the people to prepare to to do a reading. Any light that you can shead would be very much appreciated. How did you pick your readings and how did your readers know it was time for them to get up and read if there is no rehearsal? Â Â Please help!!!

so sad I was told today that I cant have my wedding the 30th of Dec in the Xcaret catholic chapel. They said that it is because its peak season and they dont want to commit to any thing. I dreamed of getting married here and now its all over because the date has been set in stone since the the festivities have already been booked.

I see your getting married in Xacart. Im so sad I tried to have the catholic ceremony there Dec 30 and they told me that the chapel is availble but that they wont marry us because its high season. ugggggggggggggggggg I wish there was some I could talk to. Ceremony only and rest outside.
