  1. You might want to check Villa Sur Mer as another option on the cliffs. You could also have your guests stay at Catch or Tensing and just have the wedding at Negril Escape. I'm pretty sure you don't need to stay at Escape as a guest to use the property for a wedding. All the "NO's" is why i chose against RockHouse. They were very unwilling to negotiate.
  2. We are getting married at Tensing and expect about 70 guests. They told me that was around the upper limit. Hopefully they could squeeze 10 more in for you! The main issue is having room to fit all the tables in the restaurant/deck area. They might be able to do 80 but then you would not have room for a dance floor. One option could be to use the whole restaurant/deck area for seating and then have room for people to dance around the pool which is below the restaurant area. You might also want to check out Negril Escape. They can fit large groups for weddings and are also on the cliffs. The Negril Escape Resort & Spa
  3. Montego Bay has a MegaMart which is like Costco. I haven't been there but I think they should have a lot of those items.
  4. We invited 75 people but expect 50-60 guests with about 20 already booked.
  5. I suggest you contact the vendors directly for quotes instead of going thru Tensing Pen. I've been speaking with Rosemarie at Floral Fantasy (one of the approved vendors) and she has been AMAZING. She's quick to respond and has offered many different options to fit our budget. I'm still deciding on photographer but did see a bad review of True Colors on Tripadvisor. I met my fiance at his sister's wedding at Tensing Pen in 2006. We loved the experience so much we decided to have our wedding there as well. All of the food we had was great. I'd suggest anything with smoked marlin if you like fish. We also decided to give a choice been the filet and lobster thermidor as our main course. Both are very good! I'm not sure what bar suggestions you are looking for but we are doing a limited open bar during cocktail hour and then 2 hours open bar during the reception. We plan to open a tab and charge any drinks after that to our room. Tensing use to allow going tab only but now they require you to purchase a bar option.
  6. I agree that the set up fee is reasonable but you are defintely being over charged for dinner. Our dinner price includes 3 types of hors devours, salad, choice of lobster or steak and 3 sides for $45/per person.
  7. Crate and Barrel has a premixed Carlic Parmesan Dipping Oil Crate and Barrel - Garlic Parmesan Dipping Oil shopping in Crate and Barrel Gourmet Foods, Beverages You could always buy a cute dipping pot/dish to package with it. They also sell those at Crate and Barrel.
  8. I recently traveld to Cabo with less than 3 months on my passport with no problems. Mexico does not have the 6 month rule but it still never hurts to renew early!
  9. I was looking for hanging decorations that would be easier to carry in luggage than lanterns and came across this etsy seller. She'll personalize the banners and flags with your names, date and colors! I also love the idea of using the mini flags in our centerpieces Link to the seller Custom Papel Picado Photography and Art by aymujer on Etsy
  10. Thanks QueenDiva. I'll check out Negril.com. Did you happen to notice if Hi-Lo has mini bottles of Appleton's Rum? I'm hoping to pick up those and some local snacks to put in our OOT bags.
  11. Hi Tathum, We are also getting married at Tensing in Nov. I haven't had any issues with them either but I'm also a pretty laid back bride. I also saw on their blog that they are closing for 2 weeks in Sept for refurbishing so everything should be looking great in time for your wedding!
  12. Has anyone been to either of these supermarkets? We want to get OOT bag favors (blue mountain coffee, rum, snacks) as well as liquor for our welcome party and I was hoping someone could tell me which location had the best prices and selection.
  13. We will be using the large hibiscus bags as well. They have good reviews on orientaltrading but some people mentioned they have a slight plastic smell that you can get rid of by putting in the dryer with some fabric softer sheets
  14. We are stealing the thumbprint tree idea I saw on weddingbee. I'm not cretiave enough to design our own tree but there are several vendors on esty that willl make them for you and come with different color ink stamps for the guest's thumbprints.

  16. Jenny Packham - Manouka I fell in love with this dress but it was totally out of my price range. Thanks to ebay I was able to get it preowned for less than half of the original price. Does anyone have any good seamstress recommendations for NYC?
  17. I would really like to have white & speckled pink cymbidium orchids but after I found out the price of I'm considering other options. We have long tables so I'll need 3 vases per table. My current inspiration is the center tall vase so we would only need 6 flowers a table or arrangements of the less expensive dendrobium orchids.
  18. Selassie, I just emailed you Ari's info and menu options from Villa Ser Mer.
  19. I considered villa sur mer as well but there were a few reasons I decided against it. They don't have an on site wedding planner so you will need to pay an outside planner. They work with Ari from Jamaican Journeys and her fee is 10% of the wedding cost. That said, I heard great things about her and she was very quick to answer any questions I had. If you are really nervous about all the details working with her might be a really good option. Villa ser mer doesn't have an on site restaurant so keep in mind you will need to rent everything - tables, chairs, plates, glasses, etc. The planner can handle all of that but these are extra costs. The deal breaker was that they would only serve a buffet style for dinner and I absolutely wanted to have a sit down dinner.
  20. I agree that the "set up charge" and other similar fees are very annoying at Tensing. We looked at the Rockhouse as well but I didn't want to have our reception by the pool and to rent the restaurant was a min $8k. The rockhouse prices also seemed higher for most things. We are having our rehearsal dinner on the beach but the Push Cart restaurant at the Rockhouse might be another locaiton for you to consider. I believe they have set menus starting at $35/person not including drinks. I've been to both resorts and they are both lovely and very similar with Tensing being a little more intimate. I also liked that the room rates were less expensive for our guests at Tensing and include breakfast. Selassie, if you have flow over guests you might also want to consider Villa Sur Mer. I haven't been to the property but the villas look amazing and the owner was very responsive to emails.
  21. Sorry about that! Here's the correct website Truecolors Photography Have you set a wedding date yet? I attended a wedding at Tensing Pen in 2006 so I have a good idea what to expect for ours but please let me know if you have any questions. Make sure to speak with them about the hidden costs. I just learned that chairs are $10 per person and anther $7.50 to rent covers! x
  22. They sent us information for True Colors Photography True Colors Photography True colors do both photo and video and have several packages to choose from but I haven't contacted them yet. We are using them but we decided we didn't want to spend a lot on photos. I know Tensing Pen use to work with Sun Gold but I'm not sure if they are still considered a preferred vendor.
  23. We are getting married at Tensing in November. They have been helpful with the arrangements and have a wedding coordinator on staff. They also have several vendors that they work with and require you to pay a $500 fee per vendor if you choose to use someone else. I don't think you'll require an outside wedding planner. They are a little slow in responding to emails which I can see being frustrating to some brides. x
  24. Our wedding is also at Tensing Pen, Nov 2010. I just ordered our save the dates and plan to send them out mid Jan. I personally think you should wait a few months before sending them out unless you are absolutely sure who you are inviting. I know our guest list has changed by a few people since we booked in Sept! We told all the people we definitely wanted there as soon as we booked and the rest of the guests will get their STD's next month.
  25. We are getting married at Tensing next Nov. I'm pretty sure you need to stay at the resort to get married there but you don't need to book out the entire property as long as you are okay with other people staying at the hotel. Try emailing Rasheda ([email protected]). It might take her a few days to respond but she should be able to answer any questions.
