  2. Hi, I've been going nuts over the selction of bridesmaids dresses. My bridesmaids and I love the dress below. However, it does not come in any of the colors that I originally said that I wanted my wedding to be. It looks gorgeous on though and I fell in love with the Slate color you see below. My colors were supposed to be fuschia/hot pink/silver with possibly seafoam green. If I choose this color...it looks a little brownish in person and not as much slate grey...can I still get away with hot pink/fushia as part of my colors? I wanted my bridesmaids dresses in a hot pink or silver color but LOVE this dress in the slate color pictured.

I am a 20/22/24 (depending on what it is and the cut)- we ended up at Davids' Bridal just to try on different styles of dresses (but I really don't like their customer service, or lack of so I really don't want to purchase from them) I found a couple of different styles of dresses, but I hate that if I want to order a "desinger" one, it is all by chance, that I can't try it on- oh well. For everyday clothes, I ususally go to old navy online, Macy's, Target & Marshalls- for dressy stuff Nordstrom is fantastic. I used to go to Lane Bryant alot, but I have found that in the past year or so most of the things there are not really work atire (the stuff I see is too trendy or all jeans)- or if they are, they are way too expensive (for what it is). I started going to the gym- not only helps with getting in shape/losing weight, but I find it a great stress reducer, but a within a week of going back, I fell at home (trying not to step on the cat, I fell up the stairs--only me!) and sprained/strained my ankle, so I have a lovely walking boot on for the next few weeks- so much for the treadmill! Anyway, I just found this thread and wanted to say hi to everyone! Tracy Hi Tracy...welcome!!! It is indeed very frustrating to see that most of the gowns are in smaller sizes. I am lucky in that I am in NYC so there are a few places with quite a few larger sample sizes. I actually went to David's last weekend and was REALLY disappointed. I like the trumphet fit and almost all of their plus size line was A line. Although they make their other dresses in large sizes...the samples were only as big as a 12. Turned me off. One good thing is that there seems to be a wonderful variety of plus-sized gowns on-line. It's not the same as being able to try one on...but...at least you have options. Also...many of the on-line retailers have return options. Good luck to you!!
  4. Thanks guys....I'm so glad that I went. I actually had a regular appointment for this weekend but cancelled it as the regualr prices for their dresses are just more that I want to spend...especially since I have found some wonderful options at a lower price point. Tiff...they did not announce when the next Blowout sale would be but I recommend that you sign up with Wedding Dresses - Wedding Cakes - Wedding Planning - Unique Wedding Ideas - By TheKnot.com as I get e-mails all of the time on Kleinfeld's sample/blowout sales and other events. Also...sign up at Kleinfeld Bridal - The Largest Selection of Wedding Dresses in the World!. What I did when I could not get any info was to simply call...they informed me of all of the upcoming sample sales and this is how I orginally found out about the Blowout sale. BTW...I cannot tell you just how nice Randy, Joan and Nicole were...they were REALLY warm and sweet. It could have been a put on, but when I told them I watched the show and loved them...they were very appreciative and gave me hugs. I saw each of them at different times. I REALLY love Randy!!
  5. Hi, I found very little info about this sale and what to expect prior to going so I thought that I would report back. Well...I went to the Kleinfeld Blowout Sale yesterday. This is different from the sample sale that they hold every month. All items were further discounted by 35%, including veils, accessories, shoes, etc. I was expecting it to be completely chaotic, but it wasn't. The sale was to start at 3pm...ending at 7pm. I got there at 12:30 and didn't see anyone outside the store. I thought this was odd. I went inside and it turns out that they have a system in place where you go in, get a number, and they told us to come back at 2:30pm. Had I known...I would have went first thing in the morning and gotten a number. I was #82. I was soooo happy that I didn't have to wait outside in line all of that time...great system. I got back around 2:20 and thank goodness I did...they started calling numbers by 2:20. They took 50 numbers in the first round. Shockingly, even as # 82, I was in the store and out by 5:00pm. They were VERY organized. No running and snatching dresses like a madwoman. They only allowed 1 person in the dressing room with you which had two brides at a time. Your other guests have to wait outside in the lobby area standing as they remove the sofas for the sale. You can however come out and show them your dress. You are also allowed only 3 dresses in the room at a time. I am a plus-size and they had about 50-75 sample dresses in sizes 16-24. Most were size 18-20. Of course, there were many more dresses in regular sizes. I didn't find anything BUT...I met Randy, Joan, Nicole and the owner. OMG....they were soooooo nice!!! Keisha, Sarah, and Diane were not there. Also...they had a HUGE sale on shoes. All were 29.99 PLUS 35% off. I purchased a $520.00 pair of shoes for $21.00 for my cousin...they were gorgeous. Soooo...if you are thinking of going to the blow-out sale....do it. Just go early to get a number and then leave.
  6. Just an FYI....Pronovias in New York is having a sample sale this Sunday 12/6 located at 14 East 52nd Street, New York, NY...call for an appointment at (212) 897-6393 or sign up on-line. Up to 75% off. Wish I could go...but I was told that they will not have plus-size samples ;( Their website is located at: Wedding gowns and evening dresses ? Bridal online store Pronovias USA

I did make a trip to David's Bridal and tried a few on a while back. I thought I had found the dress but I am starting to lean towards a Maggie Sottero, I just love her designs. Oh...they came out....horribly!!! LOL They are terrible...they were trying to take pics in a rush...too close....not posed...at least that is what my friends and family are saying as an excuse for the horrible pictures!! Of course...we are always way too harsh on ourselves....but I hate the way they came out. Maybe THIS is why they do not allow picture taking?

  9. Hi, Does anyone have a floral recommendation other than Floral Arts in Nassau? I'm looking for a reasonably priced florist. Thanks.

Don't let anyone change your mind once you have THE dress. Was the first store you went to a chain store or a local store? Thanks Christine and Sweetiecat. Sweetiecat...I went to RKBridal in NYC....very large store that MANY people recommended. Here is their website: RK Bridal - Home
  11. I think the dress looks lovely on you. It really does. Question..is it a sample dress? If not...what does it hurt to contact the salon and ask if you could try on the other dress again and make an exchange if that is the one you want? It's only been a few days...they could not have possibly began production on the dress yet...at least I would not think so. I think it's one thing to want an out and return..but perhaps they might be understanding if it is an exchange you want. Also...by any chance did your mother pay with and American Express card? I know that they have a return protection plan for the full purchase price up to $300 for returns where the store will not take back a return.
  12. Just an update...I went to ty on dresses for the first time yesterday and I must say that I had a wonderful experience. The store must have had about 200 plus size sample dresses. I was very surprised. Of course..there were like 8 times as many in regular sizes, but that was a much bigger selction of plus size dresses than I ever expected.. I was even happier to say that they had many of the strapless, mermaid type gowns that that I like. I actually have three possible contenders and could not be happier. We were not allowed to take pictures so had to snap some quick photos on a camera phone. My mom brough a camera. If those pics come out okay...I will post them. Here is the leading contender....shockingly...it looked great on...even though I have a tummy...I have no idea how that is: I also liked the way this gown looked...it was the first one I tried on and I LOVED it. I thought that this was 100% the one...and then after trying on everything and trying this on again...I wasn't as certain. I think there is a great risk of falling in love with the first dress....it is such a high seeing yourself in a gown for the first time. BTW...we also stopped in David's Bridal and it was a disaster. Only one dress in the style I liked in pus sizes. The rest were mostly A-line samples...hardly a thing for me to try on... I also tried on A -line dresses and just did not like them..I felt that they made me look larger than I already am.
  13. Yes...I've seen this done at several weddings. Typically, the broom is a smaller broom that is decorative....you may be able to find one this time of year fairly easily.

I told my FI what my mother's friend said...of course...he is all for showcasing the girls Surprise...surprise...LOL
  15. Wow...now you ladies have really brought a smile to my face...first of all..those of you claiming to be 40+ look beautiful!! You are doing the 40's proud!! Glad to see that many of you have the same plan as I do and are planning to also wear a strapless gown. Well..we go gown shopping Saturday and I'm looking forward to it...I will be armed with my favorite strapless corsette to hold the girls in and cinch in my tummy...I hope that does the trick as I plan to eat well today!! Thanks again and have a great Thanksgiving!!

The couple did a booklet and the inside has a pocket like a library book where they put the RSVP card, the first page is like the formal invite and then the following pages tells the story of how they met, which was on a cruise ship... Pics: So my FI and I are doing a cruise wedding so I think it would be cool to, instead of telling the story of how we met like they did, having pages for each day of the cruise with info about the different ports kind of story book style like this invite. I would also love to some how coordinate it with the save the dates... so thats my vision!! Who knows if it will happen... but thats what I want damnit!! hahaha Jaime Jaime, Those are gorgeous as well as unique. You have quite an eye. You must be a very creative person. I think your idea to have pages for each day of the cruise with info about the ports is a winner. If you could somehow coordinate them with the STD cards...that would be more than amazing. Your vision is a good one....even if it does not wind up exactly as planned...I can see that whatever you decide to do is going to be quite lovely. Keep us posted!!

Jaime :-) Hi Jaime, Can I tell you...people are still talking about those stamps!! LOL Between the stamps and these postcards...I'm under a lot of pressure to come up with something great for invites!! LOL Anyway...I am thinking about passport invites....Ive seen some really gorgeous ones. My only issue is the cost...so...I'm thinking on it. I'm also looking for some fun, elegant, non-traditional invites that are less expensive. I am leaning towards the passport invites though. What about you? Have you found any invites yet? Enjoy your Thanksgiving too!!
  18. So pretty and unique...what a wonderful gift to have such beautiful rings!!
  19. Thank you all ladies...I'm here laughing and smiling....especially about the Halle Berry comment!! The way my mother's friend kept insisting that I get another neckline...I began to think that I was making a huge mistake. I will take your advice and try on all types of dresses. I like the idea of a halter dress too as was suggested here. I've seen how brides often think that they want one thing and then wind up with another on shows like "Say Yes to the Dress." And yes Debbmach...40 IS the new 30!!

I was so freakin' excited about this! So I get home later, looking through the closet for a pair of pants when I come across this pair of jeans that I hadn't worn in forever because they were too tight. So I get them on, just for the heck of it and they fit like a glove!!!!!!! I was jumping for joy last night. That just made my day and I thought that I would share a nice story for once instead of me bitching! lol Good for you Lisa!! These are victories...count them all up and enjoy them!!
  21. Well ladies....I am an older bride....just over 40 and I have it in my mind that I want a strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. I am going dress shopping for the very first time this weekend (yeah!!) and as of now...I am set on a strapless trumpet or possibly sheath dress. Now...I am a plus-sized bride....and have large breasts. I am fully aware that some of these styles may not look good on me...but I would like to try them out and see. Yesterday, a friend of my mother's commented that I needed to forget about a strapless gown as it would emphasize my breasts (kind of the point.) She insisted that a portrait collar would be best for me. She is a very fashionable woman and I must say, I felt a bit insulted. Is there an age where wearing a strapless gown is just not done? LOL Am I too old to show some cleavage!! I don't want to look like a frump going down the aisle!!
