Must we do both OOT bags and Favors
Melidell replied to Tennyt1's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I think you'd be fine doing just one or the other. I'm not doing OOT bags but from what I've seen here they are so much more than the average favour that I don't think any guest would feel cheated by not receiving a table favour as well. I also agree that a really nice favour instead would be fine- I don't think a lot of people even know about OOT bags. Or, you could do a scaled down version of an OOT bag with less in it, based on some sort of theme (like relaxation, romance, etc...). I saw something like this in the Martha Stewart destination wedding issue and they were stunning. I guess I'm trying to say, all of my babbling aside, don't feel like you "have" to do anything. Just try to do something that works for you that also lets your guests know that you appreciate them being there. -

Oh, honey, I'm so sorry that you don't like it! I don't think it looks like a man's ring myself but the most important thing is how you feel! I agree with Tracy- worse comes to worse if you don't have time before the wedding just have it done afterwards. I'm really sorry that you're so upset- that is a shame. ETA- your hands are fine! They look pretty small and dainty to me! ETA2- I honestly do like it. Your e-ring is gorgeous, too! Your FI did an amazing job getting that made.

Am I wrong to be upset? (FMIL dress)
Melidell replied to bride2b10's topic in Just venting or funnies
I see where you're coming from (especially with a dress that looks a bit like the bridesmaid's dresses) but I agree that you should probably let it go. It's not worth making a fuss over. I also agree that it's better than a clashing colour! Don't feel badly for being thrown by it, though, we're all entitled to a few stressed out moments when we're planning a wedding. -
Anyone NOT Taking FI Name?
Melidell replied to hoyt75's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I'm not changing my name. I never considered it for a second. My name has been part of who I am for a long time and I like it- plus I'm getting married, not becoming a new person. I'd feel like I was losing part of my identity (that's just how I feel, not trying to imply that women who change their name loose their identity). FI doesn't mind at all, especially considering that he wouldn't want to have to change his name either. Of course, I am a feminist (and proud of it) so that's a factor, too. I'm really glad that women get to have this choice, whatever way they choose. Funny story- my mother wants to change her name back. My parents are still married. She says that back when she got married you really didn't have any choice other than to change your name- that it was just what was "done". She still misses her old name though (especially since her father passed away), so she's been thinking about just going back to it. I guess it runs in the family! -
I'm in Canada too and I've ordered from VS a lot with no problems. Their things always get here really quickly and I'd say the sizing information they give you on the site is pretty accurate. I've never ordered one of those dresses but I've ordered other clothes and bathing suits and always really liked whatever I got. Good luck!

Tux or casual digs for the guys?
Melidell replied to Diva's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I know what you mean- I like a less casual look too but there is no way I could stick my poor FI in a tux in that heat! We're also going with a light summer suit (in grey), white shirt, no tie. He can take the jacket off after pictures for the dinner this way, too. I think this splits the difference a bit- it's not too formal for a DW but it's still dressed up next to the wedding dress. -
Jerseykitten's OOT Bags...done!
Melidell replied to jk1101's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Wow- those are amazing. Everything is so detailed! I really love the postcards with you wedding day timeline on them, that is such a good idea. The T-shirts are really cute, too. Your guests are going to go nuts- well done. -
Holy posts, Batman! I love this thread, there is always so much going on! Quote: Originally Posted by caribbeanLover I just got my brochures in, and I love them. Oh and my BM's Dresses FINALLY came in!!! and I love them, now just hoping that they all fit or I'll be screwed, lol, not really funny cause it's true - but they match the ribbon perfect too, considering I made the bouquets before the dresses came in! Phew!!!!!!!!!!! I know what you mean, Suzy, I thought I was immune to the pre-wedding freakout but no, it's really starting to hit me. Can I mention how jealous I am that you and Meghan live so closely and can help each other out? I think that's so cool that you've met off of the boards. You're BM's bouquet is gorgeous- nicely done! I'm at the point where if people wanted to come they should have booked already. I totally agree. That would make me lose my mind and I think I'd tell them the same. I think Tracy must be a much more patient person that I am (not that that would be hard, patience may be a virtue but it's not one of mine). Quote: Originally Posted by echo2_62 A quick add-in since I just saw Michele's post - I would totally be insane if people were still not RSVP'd and/or booked. We had one guy who hadn't booked as of last week and then emailed to say he wasn't able to come now - but we suspected all along that this is what he would do so it was never a huge worry. There's only one item from vistaprint that I'd ordered with his name on it and that was the card to write in all our guests room numbers once we're there so I'm not too worried at all. Sadly there are a few other things I wanted to order from vistaprint but I don't think I have the mental capacity to take on any more projects right now! ards for tables Funny how you just know sometimes, isn't it? We had a feeling about a few of our potential guests, too, and it turned out to be right. Be sure to post up some pictures of your flowers when you get them and good luck with your monster to-do list! I know you can do it! Aw, what a sweet story, Tara. I'm so glad that things worked out so well for everyone. Your FI sounds like a real sweetheart and it sounds like you've got a great family together. So I need to whine for a minute (again, I know). I'm home sick with some sort of nasty stomach bug and I'm feeling really sorry for myself. I've had it all week and managed to get to work but today I just couldn't do it. I've been doing really well with working out lately, too, but this is just sapping my energy which is discouraging. Blah. Maybe I'll take some pictures of some of my wedding stuff and post them up later to make myself feel better.

Marriage : commitment

I agree with everyone else above. I wonder, too, if it could be stress? I know when we moved one of my dogs (who was still a puppy but housebroken) had a few accidents at first. I think it was the change- it's fairly normal for dogs at that age to regress a bit if they have an upset in their routine. Between 6 months and a year both of my dogs would have lapses in some of their training: they either just forget because they're so young or they could be testing you. Just keep being consistent and your dog should get back on track again. He is so adorable- I hope his leg feels better soon.

Oh-- a new planning thread! I'll hop over and check it out! I had the worst wedding dream last week even though it sounds kind of silly now. I dreamed I was marrying the wrong person and nobody would believe me... I wanted to call off the wedding and I was trying to tell people that this wasn't my FI but some other guy (I think maybe it was an ex). It was horrible! I guess I really do want to marry FI, though, because I was quite upset about marrying someone else lol.

So we're just going to add in a couple fillers That's a good idea- I may have to look into that. My hair is pretty fine so I don't usually get a lot of volume. How am I going to find the time? Thank goodness we've got an extra day off over the Easter weekend! I am so glad that we have the long weekend. I took an extra day off that weekend and I have so much that I plan to get done- mostly spring cleaning before our housesitters have to stay at our place. I have some last minute DIY things, too- I'd like to get them done now but I need some things finalized with the resort first.

Tracy- I love your speach ideas! I haven't even given any thought to that... one more thing for the list I guess. Those hair prices are insane! Wow, that is so much more than what you'd pay at home. I think I've picked out what I'd like for my hair but I don't know if the front part goes with the back if you know what I mean. Here's what I'm looking at: Also, I'm hoping I have enough hair for the back- my hair is just past my shoulders now. It's really fine but there's a lot of it. What do you think?

Important - NEW Requirements for Cuban travel

This really sucks....we leave May 1!! May 1st! Oh, that sucks- you just made the deadline. I can see them not wanting folks with American insurace companies in a way, maybe they've had problems with getting paid because of the embargo. This whole thing is still a huge pain, though. -
I don't know about the other resort chains, but we're getting married at a Melia and their resorts (Melia/Sol) have free wedding packages if you have over 17 people stay there with you. I'm sure that plenty of other chains do, too- maybe mention it to your TA. I've heard great things about Iberostar resorts, also (we were strongly considering Iberostar Laguna Azul). Good luck- choosing just one resort can be so hard!
