WARNING for those bringing a photographer to Cuba!
Melidell replied to jackobelle's topic in Cuba Weddings
jackobelle-I'm so sorry that this happened to you. It sounds like every bride's worst nightmare. I hope you were able to get some pictures, if not the day of, then after. I'm really curious as to what I can do to prevent this sort of thing from happening to me and my photographer. I'll be at a different resort and my photographer is staying on the resort with us- I don't know if that makes any difference at all. If there's a proper permit that she needs while we're down there I'd like to know about it. I hope that this isn't going to be a trend in Cuba now. ETA- visa or no visa, I think that it was unfair of the hotel not to warn you about this when you asked them ahead of time. -

You can really drive yourself crazy on tripadvisor and there are always going to be people who write bad reviews- for every resort. I always try to look and see if the same type of complaints come up over and over- then you know there may be a problem rather than just an isolated incident. Complaints that don't bother me: the food was bland, the staff don't speak English (come on, people!), I was bored, other guests were loud/rude. Complaints that I do think about: the place was really dirty, my things were stolen from my room, the staff were very unhelpful... Just take it all with a grain of salt and try to read between the lines.

That's really sad about your friend. The wedding I can see (like you said, it's hard to get away like that) but if she can't spare even one evening for you that's totally different. It sounds like you guys have just drifted apart, unfortunately. I'd would just focus on the amazing people who will be there with you for your hens night and the great time you'll have at your wedding and try not to let this get to you. You're going to have so much fun at both you wont even notice she's not there. At the end of the day it's really her loss.

My travel mugs!

Does that 70 include the brokerage fee that needs to be paid at the border (for someone to accept the package?) - or the duty that needs to be paid on it? I'm just wondering how much it will all cost. For 25 mugs and 25 bags it's quoted online as about 290.00 which is okay. Does that sound right to you? Yep, that included everything. That amount sounds right to me- we paid about $225, I think, for 30 mugs with shipping and no bags so if they do the duty charge based on price you're probably looking at just a bit more than what we paid. If they do that brokerage amount based on weight or size you'll probably wont pay any more than we did since bags are so light. -
Bwahahahaha! Love it- thanks for brightening my day.

Try Feathers and Frills: Handmade Vintage Inspired Confections by FeathersandFrills on Etsy She's got all kinds of vintage looking hair stuff- I bought these from her and I love them! I also found a facinator from AnnLeslie Birdcage Veils Fascinators Jewelry Bridal Accessories by AnnLeslie and she's awesome as well. Here it is with my combs. She'll custom colour these, too- I asked for white netting with black feathers but she had all kinds of colours that you could choose from. Hope this helps!

My travel mugs!

It's not super cheap, but the mugs were a lot cheaper than 4imprint (the Canadian company I looked into) so I still came out ahead. -
Hi all, I just wanted to show off my mugs- I love them! We got them from discountmugs and I'm pretty happy with the company. The mugs got here quickly, they're just what I ordered and the duty charges (I'm in Canada) weren't too bad. I shopped it around a bit and these mugs worked out to be cheaper than similar ones from 4imprint even including duty. Here they are: For some reason when I post this picture, though, it's squashing the pic and making the mug look shorter and wider than it is. Sorry about that- just keep in mind that they're actually taller and thinner lol. I had them shipped to my FMIL to save a bit on shipping and she just sent me one so that I could see what they look like. She looked them all over and except for one mug that has a slightly loose catch and another with a slightly blurry logo they're all in perfect condition. The only issue that I had with them was that they told me the fuschia colour that I originally wanted for the logo wouldn't show up well against the black mugs. I went with a light pink instead but it looks a bit purple in some lights. No big deal to me, but if you're really fussy about your colours you may want to keep that in mind. Oh, weirdly enough, they sent me 40 mugs but I ordered/ paid for only 30. I'm not sure why but I'm not going to worry about it- it's not like I can send them back anyway, they've been personalized. FMIL thinks that because one of the logos came out blurry they may have had to do an extra batch and then just sent them all to me. I'm not complaining! ETA- aaarggh! I meant to post this in the favours section! Sorry ladies, I'll try to get a mod to move it.

Welcome to the forum, Cassie. This is a great place to start planning- you'll find a lot of good information and ideas here. I know what you mean about so many locations- it's hard to pick just one. Good luck and enjoy your planning.

Week of Nov. 28th 2010 wedding in Cuba
Melidell replied to Cuba Destination Wedding's topic in Newbies!!
Welcome to the forum! I'm a MLD girl, myself, but I know there are a lot of girls getting married at the new Iberostar resort (Iberostar Laguna Azul) and it looks gorgeous. Pop on over to the Cuba thread and you'll find a lot of information about different resorts. Good luck narrowing it down- I know how hard it can be to choose just one. -
Welcome to the forum. Punta Cana is beautiful, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. Good luck and happy planning.

Roses- I love tropical flowers too but there's just something about roses. Would you rather have a dog or a cat?

Love. Oatmeal?

We have a St. Bernard and I'm not suprised that they're on the list for being good with kids. Our big guy is just a gentle giant- he is the sweetest, most docile and easy going dog I've ever seen. He loves kids and is so great with them- he's really friendly but he never jumps up or gets too rowdy. He does shed, though- I feel like I'm always going around with the broom or a vacuum. He needs a lot of space, too, in the house and outside of it- a fenced in yard is a must (there aren't many ropes that could hold him if he wanted to go and Saints can be dumb about cars-if he got loose it could be a disaster). A great dog for us, but not for everyone. I think it's so important to do your research before you get a dog so that you can find one that's a good fit for your lifestyle.

Sounds like you made a good decision. You're right- it's only a year away and that will go by so quickly. Have a great trip to Cuba- I hope you find the perfect resort for your wedding!

Natasha- I love all of your wedding things! Those frames are really nice, I think the poem is a sweet touch. Door signs are a pretty cool idea too, it's unreal all of the things you can do with Vistaprint. I still seem to have a touch of the flu, but I think I'm on the mend, thanks for asking. Jenna- I'm so glad that they're able to fix it for you and get your ring the way that you want it. That much be such a relief to you- I know you were pretty upset about it. My MOH and a friend came over tonight and gave me a hand with the wedding favours. I think I mentioned before that I'm not doing OOT bags, just mugs as a kind of welcome gift, so I also wanted to have a table favour at the reception. I'm giving little photo albums with seashells on the front and we just tied them up with some fushia and black ribbon and put my thank you tags on them. They're looking good! Now they're all ready to be packed up- one less thing to do.

Anyone NOT Taking FI Name?

I think that's a pretty great way to turn things around and make them see your point of view. Oh, I forgot to add that for future children we'll be hyphenating their last names so they'll have both of ours. A bit complicated, I know, but we've also agreed that if our children don't like having a double last name when they're adults they can drop whichever name they like and no hard feelings. I'm not too hung up on having the same last name as my children though- it's not going to make me any less their mother if my name doesn't match. -
Welcome! I hear you about stress- trying to get booked and get everyone co-ordinated feels a bit overwhelming at first. It'll get easier! Just focus on the end result- you and FI getting married in beautiful Punta Cana. Happy planning and don't be nervous about asking for help and advice.

I understand where you're coming from- trying to pick a location is really overwhelming at first. It's such an important day and it's hard to just pick somewhere you've never been. You can find all kinds of reviews here on this site- it's really helpful to hear what other people who have gotten married somewhere have to say. I'm sure you'll find the perfect spot- good luck!

I can relate a little bit with finding a big change between your two bands when they're separate vs. together because I was having a bit of the same problem. If you saw my e.ring on it's own, you'd only notice the solitaire that i've got, and if you saw my wedding band alone you'd think it was the skinniest tiny little thing ever (sugar crystals are larger than the diamonds in my wedding band LOL!). But when I wear them together all of a sudden the overall look seems a heck of a lot bigger than what I'd pictured from the two separate items. I totally second this! My engagement ring is a good size on it's own but not huge, and my wedding band is downright tiny. Put them together, though, and it feels like a whole lot o' ring on one finger. I think I'm just not used to it yet. Honestly I don't know how people wear aniversary bands or two wedding bands- but when I see it on other peoples fingers it always looks nice. I think we'll just need to get used to it. Come to think of it, my engagement ring took some getting used to, also, I was always catching it on stuff or banging it on things at first.
