Hello - I am getting married in two weeks at El Dorado Maroma, and had two questions. Has anyone used their DJ, his name is DJ Fernando? El Dorado Maroma charges $1,500 for a DJ for 4 hours, are there any other brides at any of the El Dorado resorts using their DJ services? It's too late to change the DJ now, but just curious what others' experiences has been.... Also, I was told by my wedding coordinator that their in-house make-up artist uses make-up from Spain called Alizée Bronté, which I never heard of. When I googled it, Alissi Bronte came up, which am sure that's what she meant. Am concerned about this line because (1) never heard of it (2) don't know how my skin will react (3) I may not like their makeup. I want to bring a make-up artist I know from Playa del Carmen's department store to the hotel without being charged the ridiculous $500 for "outside vendor". Any suggestions? Thanks, Karla

Hi Gail, Â How is it going? I get married in October, am nervous, excited, happy? How are your plans going? I've decided to bite the bullet and hire the expensive DJ, I want all my guests to enjoy themselves rather than charging someone with the iPod music, although that is a great alternative. Â I am undecided on whether I should use their make-up artist or go to a department store in Playa del Carmen and get it done. What are you doing for that? Â Hope to hear from you soon! Karla -
Hair and make-up artist??

Hi Diana - your make-up looks beautiful and so do you! Do you have the contact info for Norma at MAC? I am getting married at El Dorado Maroma and they charge $500 for an outside vendor, which I really don't want to pay. Did your hotel at Playa del Carmen charge that or were you able to get around it? Thanks! Karla -

Hi all, I have been MIA from this forum but I am back. I am not crazy about the make-up artists photos available on the Karisma site. Does anyone have any recommendations for a great local Cancun make-up artist that can come to El Dorado Maroma, and can I get around the $500 outside vendor fee by claiming this person is a guest? Thanks, karla -
Hello Brides - Can anyone send me the pricing too for Claudia Photography? I submitted my information via her website 2 days ago and haven't heard back. Thanks so much! My email is [email protected] Thanks again!

Hi Gail, Correct. The Sabores restaurant is only available if you have 40 or more guests. That's what Valeria told me a few months back because Sabores is technically open to all hotel guests, so you have a choice to have your reception there with other hotel guests or close down the restaurant by having the 40 minimum for just your guests. Yes, the Palapa Arrecife is located at the Marina and this is the "hut" I will be using for my reception. The reason we chose to have our reception at the Marina is because some of our guests (not many) will bring children under 16 years of age. Karisma doesn't own the Marina which is why they allow children. Otherwise, we would have had it Sabores, it is a very nice space. But to your point, we would still be waiting on selecting a reception place since we haven't received all RSVPs yet. I am going to talk to Valeria about at least speaking to the DJ and photographer beforehand if we can't meet them. It doesn't make sense that we can't meet them until the day off, but I'd like to be positive and rely on their wedding planning expertise since they do this all the time. Gail, I'd love the keep exchanging notes, the more we know, the less they can take advantage of us!! But overall, am feeling very good about my decision. Cheers, Karla -

Hi GCSC212 (what's your name?), Thanks! I haven't picked the photographer yet either. Are you dealing with Valeria, that's mine. She's so far so good! We are having our reception at the Palapa Arrecife, one of the bigger ones with tile floors as we didn't want sand for dancing. I will also have a DJ but haven't chosen one yet. When i asked the WC if we get to meet the DJ and photographer a day or two before the wedding, she said their schedules are too hectic and we wouldn't meet them until the day off. I don't think I feel comfortable with that but it seems like this is the way they work, what are your thoughts on that? -

I am getting married at El Dorado Maroma but Valeria is also my coordinator. So far, she has been great, my wedding is on Oct 2010. I asked her if I decide to bring my own decorations/flowers (i.e. bring my own satin bouquet holders which I can get online at $5 versus paying their $15 a piece, or bringing Real Touch flowers on my own versus buying them through her). She said no problem but there is a $75 "service" fee. I guess this is their way to make money, but when I did the math, it is still cheaper to bring my own stuff and pay the $75! Any thoughts on this? As of today, I actually want real bouquets which I may re-use as centerpieces but may bring my own chair sashes and bouquet satin ribbon holders...

Hi Noob, I am also getting married at El Dorado Maroma in October 2010. My fiance and I visited for the first time in October 2009 and LOVED the place. You and I made a great choice. I am having a Catholic ceremony at the beachfront chapel and we are having the reception outside in one of the big Palapas (huts) since we will have a small number of kids and kids under 16 are not allowed anywhere on the grounds unless it is in the Marina. Have you chosen a photographer? -

Hello, My fiance and I are visiting El Gran Caribe Real next weekend 10/2/09. I will post any helpful feedback! is there anyone that has recently had their catholic ceremony at El Gran Caribe? -
Hi Simda, I am looking to get married in Cancun in Oct 2010 and although I gave my $50 deposit to Destinationweddings.com, I pretty much have been doing all the research. I keep reiterating that I can't have my guests pay too much for the hotel given this economy, and although I LOVE the Moon Palace and have great wedding packages, the room rates are high for my guests and so I like Gran Caribe Real better, but she seems to keep pushing other hotels and I don't like that. However, some of her advice has been helpful but I may consider just booking directly with the hotel if she doesn't provide what I am looking for....

Hi Kvataj30, From NY too! I live in the Bronx. I am happy to hear you were not disappointed. Did you do food and cake tastings? Is the food good? Is the DJ selection list good if you are hiring a DJ?
