I am getting married at the Majestic Colonial in Oct 2010. I am surprised by your TA's comment about 'not being able to get married on the beach because it is too windy'. That is a bunch of hoooey! The Majestic has 3 spots to get married - beach, gazebo or resort chapel (don't quote me on this last one). It doesn't matter if it is windy or not. You decide. You can even change your mind the morning of the wedding where you want the location to be. From what I understand, the windy months in DR are Jan and Feb so if you are worried about wind, don't book your wedding in those months. I am legally getting married at home the week before and then having a symbolic ceremony in the DR. The translation fees sound correct. Plus it is harder to find a date for a legal ceremony as the local Judge that most of the resorts use gets booked up quickly. The symbolic ceremony (which does not include a judge - the wedding co-ordinator acts as the judge) is exactly the same as a normal wedding ceremony except you sign a paper that says you renewed your vows versus the actual legal wedding papers. PS. if you are looking for a FABULOUS wedding photographer for the Colonial, use Michael or Phil Steingard. They have photographed a ca-zillion weddings there and know the resort like the back of their hand. Plus they know all of the staff really well too.

@chendy901 - A friend of mine was married at the Colonial in Nov'09 and they didn't pay a deposit. I am getting married there in Oct'10 and did not pay a deposit either. My friend (and I am as well) used Michael Steingard for photography. He photographs A LOT of weddings at the Majestic Colonial and Elegance so he knows the staff and the resorts like the back of His hand. The joke is that he is like a second wedding co-ordinator. Michael Steingard I hear great things about DJ Mania but I have never used him so...

I found a sand picture frame for our sand ceremony! Hoooray! I love the idea of putting a wedding photo in the frame that contains the sand from our ceremony! I had to search high and low but I found it on etsy. <insert big sigh of relief>

I agree with everyone else. TripAdvisor is misleading. Don't let it worrying you about your resort choice. I am sure you will have a great time!

I agree with the above posters. I have switched TAs as I just was not getting a good vibe from the first TA. The second one I contacted was much more knowledgeable about flights (as my guests are coming from multiple locations across Canada), etc. You have to remember this is business. You are not good friends with your TA...they are not coming over to watch TV with you. If you are not getting what you want, find another.

Cynlaf - I called Deb Thursday night and she said I could drop by anytime on Saturday between 12 - 5pm. So I would suggest you call her ahead of time - but she seems very flexible on when you can visit.

I just got back from Hamilton where I visited Enchanted Memories (I live an hour away so I wanted to see the real touch flowers for myself). Deb had a big assortment of flowers for me to look at. I showed her some pics of bouquets that I liked. She told me which flowers were available in real touch and which ones weren't. I didn't have to ask or prompt her - she was quite up front stating that if I wanted a specific flower it would look good in pics but would not look/feel like real touch in person. I mentioned that I wanted a gerber but in orange. She actually sprayed the gerber right there and then so I could see what it looked like. What a sweet heart! With Deb's help, I picked some great flowers and am really excited to see how it all turns out! I have had nothing but great service from this company and look forward to receiving my bouquet! Oh, and I also saw some of the other bridal bouquets she is currently working on. They were gorgeous! I. Just. Can't. Wait.

I chose real touch over real flowers from the resort because I wanted control over what my bouquet would look like.

Hello October 2010 Brides! I am getting married at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana, Dominican Rep on Oct 19th, 2010. I have 9 people going (we invited only parents and siblings with their SO) so 11 in total (including us). Everyone will be booking their flights/hotel by the end of this week. I have picked my dress (ordered it with the matching hair piece) and am waiting for it to arrive (within the next few weeks). I have my shoes but need to figure out what jewelery I am going to wear. I don't have any BM or GM. I have picked burnt orange as my wedding color as I was told by my wedding photographer that that color pops in photos. I am bringing a real touch flower bouquet with me along with matching flowers as the cake topper. I have also found burnt orange chair sashes and table runners but can't order them until the end of May (as they are out of stock). Photographer is booked. I know were I am going to order my fiances wedding clothes from. I have purchased Bubba Kegs for my guests (put the Canadian Flag and each persons initials on each keg using stickers). I have also bought key/badgeID folders for tips and room key. I have also bought colorful luggage tags so it will be easier to keep an eye out for everyone's luggage. I have beige wooden fans (from Michaels Arts and Crafts) to be placed on each guests seat so they can fan themselves if the afternoon wedding is hot. I think that is everything so far. I look forward to chatting with everyone!

We just booked our flight/hotel yesterday (using a TA) for our Oct 2010 wedding. We are leaving from Toronto and staying at the Majestic Colonial. Oct 16th to Oct 23 costs $1426 CDN (West Jet). Some of our guests are leaving from Saskatoon, SK for the same dates/location will cost them $1650 (Air Canada).
