This is actually pretty standard at all the weddings I've been to. The prices are usually lower than normal, but it's almost never an open bar. But then again I'm from Newfoundland & we are not known for "sipping"!! It would bankrupt the b&g to have to pay for the guests booze!! But things are a lot different there too - it's not uncommon to recieve less than $50 as a gift either. But the dinner plates at not overly expensive - it's all relative I guess! I am on the floor laughing... The first party I hosted at my home here with my Dutch FI and me being a Newfie. I had enough food to fed an army and enough booze to kill the enemy and keep the troops happy. He was in shock when he seen the spread that I put on for family and friends 26 people 20 of them Newfies. He just kept telling me "hun thats alot of food, oh hun thats alot of beer and booze". I am laughing, oh is he in for the shock of his life lol.
Let's just say he knows when my brother and cousin shows up their good for a keg or two and half a cow. So yeah in Newfoundland it's CASH BAR and Yes I do remember getting $5.00 from a couple that came to my first wedding 24 years ago. So funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
