  1. Where we live, people typically drive either an hour and a half or even 3 hours away to a larger city airport for better airfares. People do it all the time. So if that ends up happening, I don't think it's going to stop people from attending your wedding.
  2. I really don't remember seeing pinatas at the marina shopping area [walking distance] or in Playa del Carmen. That may be something good to ask the WC? I'd guess that being a local, she would know.
  3. Welcome to the forum Tifany. I am a Tiffany trying to plan a DW wedding also, but we have to work around my FI's immediate family schedule. With an elementary, high, college, and grad student as his sibs, and a mother who teaches, it's not easy! However, we are looking between Cancun and Riviera Maya, around Playa and a little north, because it is so much closer to the airport. Happy hunting and there are overwhelming amounts of affordable resorts!
  4. Congrats and welcome. A friend of mine was married at Dreams Cabo and highly recommends it. Sorry I'm not more help, but you will find all that you need on this forum! Just do a search or browse pics from photographers on here and you are just about guaranteed to find some more info. Happy hunting!
  5. You could also suggest guests that want to be there and just "can't afford it" that they can stay at a close-by resort that may be less pricey and get a day-pass for your wedding.
  6. WOW it makes me feel better knowing other people have the same crazy issues that I do! We were engaged for like a week, my parents, aunts, uncles, etc were ALL so supportive and excited about the talk of a DW. So he sat his parents down, asked them if they were okay with it, and gave us the go ahead. We started calling everyone, big buzz and we were on cloud 9 because we were getting our dream wedding. 2 days later, a horrible phone call from a brother living in another state that ended in the ending of their relationship as brothers pretty much, a fight with his sister, and his parents sat us down to try and change our minds! It's ridiculous! BUT you are NOT selfish. This is your one and only chance for it to be all about you and what you want. We've learned to look at it as this is OUR day, the vows are for US, and we will have a big reception when we get back home. Everyone is still invited if they'd like to be there to support us, if not, no hard feelings. Wedding and honeymoon in one saves us money, and definitely my parents. We don't want our wedding to be putting on a show for other people, it's for us. Basically, do it! We all have to stick it out together, haha.
  7. I think both are amazing! However, I like the satin more for the beach.
  8. We were dating for 6 years and about 4 months. Plan to get married on 8 year anniversary )
  9. That's great! My mom called me from CARC (we have Goodwill, Salvation Army, and CARC that are all second hand stores where I live) and they had about 8 or so wedding dresses with tags still on them ranging from $20-$40. Don't get me wrong, they weren't my style, but someone got a good deal!
  10. Forgot to mention, you can take the free shuttle to Playa... then just take a cab if you are ready to go back to the resort when you are finished shopping. We used Lomas to go to Xel-Ha and paid about $15-20 more pp than we would have paid at Xel-Ha to get in. Transportation was included but loading up in cabs would have saved money overall.

Yeah, I want to make sure and do my homework so our guests have options for riding into playa or going to cozumel. Did you take a trip to either of those places? I'm curious how smooth it is to get to either place. Lomas is the people that work through Funjet. They shuttled us from the airport to the resort and took care of any excursions we were interested in. Our guys were great and they took good care of us. You can book just about anything through them. All of the non-motorized equipment for the water is FREE every day. Well, included in your all inclusive. ) There is a FREE shuttle that runs twice a day to Playa del Carmen. It drops you off for 3-4 hours and picks you back up in the same spot. We did the night one because it wouldn't be so hot for shopping, but the bus was almost an hour late picking us up. Not a huge deal, but it was about 11 when it got there and we were exhausted. If you go, the bars and restaurants are pretty good... but talk people down! The people in small shops will bug the crap out of you but you pretty much name what you will pay for stuff. Also, there were a few nights on the resort when vendors set up in the center of everything and you could buy the same type stuff without ever leaving.
  12. Don't know how to post pics... but this is my ring that I LOVE. http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3012258_n.jpg http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7865873_n.jpg

Do you know if they charge for that or is it free? We weren't sure if we should tell our guests to bring their own snorkel gear or not. ~ Erica My aunt and uncle from Chicago and little brother snorkeled at the resort for what seemed like hours, their backs were baked through their white t-shirts! Snorkeling gear is free for one hour per day and you get flippers, goggles, and a snorkel itself. We brought our own cheap goggles and all had snorkels that you keep from Xel-Ha (you see way more fish closer up at the resort than you do at Xel-Ha). You can also "rent" a kayak for free for an hour to paddle around. Near where the wedding is held, there is what used to be a bridge (has since broken between the two trips I took there). What is left is some colverts (sp?) under water and the fish hang out there. A lot of people fed bread or bananas to them from above. The main part of the beach is mostly reefs and you can swim all around them looking at cool fish, lots of pretty colors, in their natural ecosystem. The urchins didn't seem to come out until mid-afternoon and they were small and black. We were barefoot and had no problem. I have an underwater case for my digital camera and even have pics of all the fish I was chasing around! It was a blast.
  14. Was not married there, but stayed at this resort twice. The sand it all pretty soft where it is high and dry. Couldn't stand to wear flip flops on it because the sand flies up behind you and hits your rear end. I have tons of pictures from on the resort and different things we did outside of the resort as well, if anyone is interested in seeing the resort or excursions you can e-mail me for pics. [email protected] Just thought I'd offer. There was a wedding that took place last time we were there and it was adorable. The bride came from lobby past the pool we were in that has the swim-up bar (best place to get drinks, btw) and EVERYONE was cheering and clapping. Very fun crowd, they were from Lafayette, Louisiana. Good luck to all of you and it is a great resort where you can snorkel for hours and not get bored (our favorite part).
  15. Welcome to the forum! I know someone who was offered anywhere in the world for her honeymoon, but chose to go back to The Royal because she loved it so much. Good luck and happy planning.
  16. Very cute! I loved it, and definitely have considered doing something silly after watching Rock the Reception on tv! But more along the lines of having the wedding party dance to "Kung Fu Fighting" or even doing the Hokey Pokey instead of a plain ol' slow dance.
  17. The Real in Playa del Carmen has a glass church with views of the ocean. Looks gorgeous in pictures.
  18. And I haven't seen the giant prints of them, just like 5x7 or so, to display. But if you want them to have because you want them, there is nothing wrong with that. )
  19. I, until just now on this forum, had never heard of BD pictures. But EVERYONE I know has done bridal photos. As you can see, I am from Louisiana, born and bred. You put up bridal pics at the reception, most girls take some with hunting or fishing gear to put on the groom's table. You print it for your parents and grandparents. I never realized it was just a southern thing! Then again, if you have ever been to our receptions, you know that we do everything differently.
  20. This invitation is amazing! I printed postcards with them for my college graduation and saved not only on printing, but also on postage! Very cute idea and I will be remembering this for my own DW in the future. )
  21. Not getting married for at least a year, but I know for sure the general area I want the resort in and we have agreed to no official reception while in Mexico. Ceremony/vacation/honeymoon only and we will deal with a big reception here upon our return home. After reading this forum, I am standing firm on that decision because it seems that a reception there is a bigger headache than convincing my finance's family that a DW is what WE want and not just what I want. ) Gotta love future in-laws!
  22. Adorable story that will be fun for you to tell the rest of your lives! Congrats.
