You will find more than enough information on this forum! I've been reading on here for about 4 months and still haven't chosen a resort because I like so many. But when it comes down to deciding, everyone here will definitely help you with the nitty gritty details that will help you choose. Good luck!

The one am have been fawning over is a fitted sheath type dress with this beautiful bustle piece that makes the dress look more like a trumpet/mermaid style. Then, I think abuot how hot it will be and I think a simple light gown would be better, but I feel like I would be settling. Any thoughts? In August, it will be HOT in Mexico! But if you don't love love love a dress that seems light, I say rough it out in your dream dress! Who wouldn't want a "mermaid" style on the beach? Makes sense to me. All those budget people.. my dress is Private Label (by G) Destiny and it was under $500 with taxes and all. It actually looks more expensive than all of the other.. waaaay pricier... dresses that I tried on.

This is OUR wedding, not yours!!" This seems to be the most stressful part of the planning so far. I did delete the post, but I saved it in a word document on my computer just in case I needed to reference it later if they ever say anything else to me. lol. I'm sorry about your FI's mother making that comment. Geez, what is up with people?? The funniest part of it all is that after we got serious about wanting a DW, my FI sat him parents down in private and asked them if they were okay with that before we went for it. His dad said if it was what we wanted, they would do what they could to be there. So I call everyone with the great news, my mom is jumping up and down excited with me, and the next day all hell broke loose w/his mom. Case in point, the woman is a loony bird. I wish we could all scream that!!! Eventually, they shut up to your face about it. Good job on saving it though, I'd def want to show people and laugh about how pitiful that is. But the best of luck to everyone on this thread! I love knowing we are all here to support each other through this craziness. It will be worth it though.

I was not expecting to buy a dress for about another 6 months from now. Never was the girly girl and didn't think I'd find "THE dress" like everyone says. Who knew? I was so wrong. You'll end up finding the one you don't want to take off after you decide to start looking. Since I did that already, I'm not allowing myself to go to another dress shop or look at dresses online unless it is the "show us your dress" post on this forum! LOL.

Dreams PA is in a GREAT area. I stayed next door twice before (2007 and 2009) at the Catalonia. The marina is fun and PA is a very safe place. I am considering this very same place as my location, but I am too indecisive. Good luck and happy planning. Just find the thread for Dreams Puerto Aventuras and there are too many pages of info there for just one person to look through )

I don't know if it is harder for me or for him to not show FI my dress! I share everything with him, especially if I am excited, so having a dress I can't show him makes me want to even more! HAHA. 2 months of not showing him down, only 16 more to go. Shouldn't have bought it so early! We both still live with our parents (he is about to graduate college though, so in the next few months we'll get a place) and it is in my mom's closet because 1. mine has no room to hang anything longer than a tshirt and 2. they know I'd cave and show him! FI says he wants to see it but he also wants it to be a big deal that day. He was in our house without any of us home recently and he called and told on himself to me so he wouldn't look... says "I could go look at your dress if I wanted to and you'd never know." I don't care if he sees it on the hanger though, I'm with y'all... it's not nearly the same as on me! I did give him a detailed description of it tho. He's a guy, he doesn't get it!

Love love love it! I'm probably the only person to have a wedding dress for a wedding that is still a year and a half away! lol Don't worry, you aren't!! I did the exact same thing. And my dress actually came out at about $450 with taxes and all.

My favorites this week are Sandos Playacar (love the wedding setup and aisle), Dreams Puerto Aventuras (really want on-site snorkling), and Iberostar Tucan (all the critters everywhere are too cool)!! As for dresses, I actually bought mine in October! I was only engaged 2 whole months before. My mom and I went into a store next to where we were just to try on dresses and play. It fit perfectly and I couldn't leave it in the store! So now I have to put it on monthly to regulate my eating habits LOL! So far so good.

I have had people still asking me "Why not in the states somewhere?" REALLY?! If we had it in the US, people would still have to travel, you don't get these amazing AI deals, and it's just not nearly as beautiful. I'm simply stuck with "Because that is not what we want" and most people stop there. We have purposely talked about choosing a resort in front of his mother to see if she will react. A good friend of my family actually congratulated her on our engagement and wedding in the future and FI's mother straight up said "Thanks but we can't afford to go to the wedding." This friend asked us "isn't it a year and a half away?" My point exactly. She still blows money on little things that make me feel like she is not gonig to attempt to try and make it. FI's godmother is still telling us not to worry about her. We honestly aren't... but my heart hurts for my FI because his immediate family is not supportive! He 12 & 15 year olds are gung ho about it and talk about it all the time, but realistically I don't know if they will pay for these kids to go. If we can afford to help those 2 make it at the time, sure, we will. The "FU" brother that said we are going to hell came in for Thanksgiving. His GF has recently moved away from here also, so things are calm on that end. The brother was in town for 4-5 days and we only saw him for about 2 hours of it. He wasn't unpleasant but his GF was. She's too materialistic for me and I had no interest in what she was talking about. Everyone was telling my FI they couldn't believe he and his brother didn't speak while brother was away, blah blah. HELLO the phone works both ways! His brother did not call him either! But even when he lived here, they didn't call each other to just talk about what was going on in each other's lives or even talk about that face to face. Phone calls were more of hey what are you doing wanna go bowling? Etc. So there isn't really a change and he doesn't miss his brother for obvious reasons. Overall, we are completely happy. I am so thankful that my family has been so supportive of him and myself. At Thanksgiving everyone was asking his brother how grad school was going and no one gave FI any acknowledgement of his graduation that is this weekend. He was hurt by that. On the other hand, all of my family asks him all the time. So at least he has us!! And his godparents and a handful of cousins are down with coming to Mexico. We will see how it plays out. This got long! But that's all the update I have for now. Just wish we could decide on a resort already!! haha

Hat, I LOVE your dress!! It's GORGEOUS and totally fits you like a glove. Makes me want to go home to put my dress on, haha. -
Allison, I am having the same flack from the future in laws. Found out that when one of my family's really close friends congratulated FI's MOTHER on our engagement and wedding in the future, her reply was "Thanks but we won't be able to go to the wedding." Right off. How about it's 18 months away, SAVE SOME MONEY and at least make an ATTEMPT?!! She's a control freak. ANYWHO, about you, delete that terribly tacky post from your website! That is completely uncalled for. They just didn't have the balls to say anything to your face. How about they don't go to Panama City for about 2 years and go to your wedding with that money?? People are crazy. Those who REALLY want to be there will. All others.. well.. it's better that they aren't there to try and steal the spotlight of YOUR day. )

Exellence Riviera Cancun is a beautiful resort, but we are looking for a place that is not adults only. My pregnant MOH with a terrible fear of flying is going to get on a plane for me but says she will bring her kid (who will be just over 1) with her. So that one is out of the cards for us ( As for legal vs symbolic... my FI feels like it would be wrong to have a "fake wedding" in Mexico after already getting married at home at the courthouse. I told him no one would have to know. Maybe we would do that on my birthday (2 weeks before we want to be married), then all the paperwork will be over with and filed for when we get back home. They say you still sign a certificate, it's just not legal, so no one would know the difference.
