:( Postponing Wedding from Jan 2011 to Jan 2012 !!!
Jennybell1 replied to Jennybell1's topic in Just venting or funnies
Thanks ladies! Riley and I have chatted about Disney and the possibility of getting married there and he is completely against it. Can't say that I blame him either...Im sure Disney is a wonderful place to get married, but we want something low key, informal and not busy. Disney is not what I envisioned and I dont want to get married there just so that I can still get married that year. I have heard wonderful things about disney and my future SIL was just there for a wedding and she said it was gorgeous!!! However, it was like pulling teeth to get him to agree to take the family there for a vacation, let alone getting married there. So I think I will stick with my original plans atleast the venue anyways. The date...well thats still to be determined I think. All I know is that its in 2012. I am definitely not moving the wedding again to accomodate anyone bc your all right...its is my wedding date and regardless of who can or cant come...Im getting married to him that year. Im okay with moving it this one time, but thats it. I think the brides that have moved their wedding more then once are very strong women, bc even though I think Im strong, it was so difficult for me to do it once, let alone multiple times. I would have been so upset! Thank goodness Im not the only one dealing with family and how our plans interfere with theirs.....lol Thanks for the encouragement and all the ideas....really appreciate it all. I definitely will take the time I have and use it wisely. With my OOT bags done, well I guess I can work on some other DIY's but not too many as I dont want to get to far ahead of myself....lol Thanks again!!! -
Hoping none of our brides were on this flight!

So I understand how heartbreaking it is to have to say "Oh no, not ANOTHER year!" But you WILL get there, and when you do, it will be absolutely amazing Think of it as more time to plan so you can be more relaxed about the whole thing, and more time to save so you can buy some super fabulous shoes and an amazing dress You just need to weigh the pros and cons when it comes to postponing and make your final decision from there. Good luck! Oh my gosh "FML"....I shouldnt be ranting at all....Now I feel bad..its must have been so hard for you!!! How did you get through it Im So sorry to hear that.... -

I changed my date to a month later after my parents complained it was too close after Christmas... then the new date pissed off my aunt because they are all in BC and it's the exact two weeks of the Vancouver Olympics... there is no pleasing everyone. They have to make the sacrifice for you, not the other way around. And don't get me wrong, I am VERY close with my family, but I just refuse to put my life on hold for other people's plans. I say be more selfish. We are accomodating Riley's sisteractually. We had all planned to take the kids to Disney in July 2011 but they dont think they will be able to afford both. She is my MOH and I need her there just as much as Riley does. I dont want to stress them out to try and save for both right away and that seems to be whats happening. The funny thing is that the wedding was set for 6 months prior to Disney and now its set for 6 months after Disney. Im not sure how 6 months will make that much more of a difference, but I really hope it does. Plus they werent bringing the kids before bc of Disney but now the plan is to bring them. So we are moving it bc of expenses, but it was just the two or them initally and that was hard to afford, and now there are four of them...so wouldnt that be just as hard to save for in 6 months...maybe moreso then just the two of them I dont know what to think, or maybe my logic is just screwed up....but it makes no sense to me, bc its going to cost them so much more now then it would have then. So I keep smiling and look forward to Disney with my family and extended family and keep the light at the end of the tunnel bright by coming on this site and living vicariously through all of you....lol Thanks ladies for listening to my rant...I appreciate the support!!!! -
Im so disheartened.....Riley and I just decided that we are putting the wedding off for another year!! I was getting more excited as 2010 drew closer bc then I would be only a year away...now its going to be 2 years and that is just sooooo far away. So now all of my planning and buying is at a standstill and Im afraid that what I like now I wont like in 2 years from now.....This is so frustrating Sometimes I wish we would just go off and get married without family and friends present as it would be so much easier. Bc now our wedding date interferes with other family members plans for summer vacations in 2010 and finances....its too much and they cant save for both. So now we have to bump the wedding another year out so that everyone is accomodated. And I can just see it....another year will pass and then again something else will interfere...there will be no pleasing everyone I know. But when this affects the immediate family...what else can we do Ugh! I can't believe this....I never thought I would be the one on here postponing my wedding....On the bright side.....I will have more time to save too I guess... oh gosh I hope thats not the only positive to this....lol Thanks for letting me vent!!! In the end its personal preference, but from someone who has done the traditional wedding at home 10 years ago....I say do a Destination Wedding!! I should have done that at my first wedding for sure. I just cant justify spending over $10,000 on a day. Atleast now Im spending under $6000 for a wedding and honeymoon and the plus side is I get two weeks of vacation in a hot destination vs only one. Plus its cheaper and is so much more fun. The downside...is the amount of attendees. Not everyone will be able to afford to come or get the time off work..but other then that - I say go for it!

I think black would look amazing on the beach if it if short dresses. A good contrast to all the natural colors out there and it can work for any season. Im doing Sandos Playacar too - oh I hope you pick that one.....lol ...Im a little biast!

Does she not like your FI or something?? Is she wanting this to be so far down the road bc she thinks you will come to your senses or something?? Or does she think your too young?? I dont know why she is asking for 2015, but as the other brides have said - stick with your date - its your wedding, your paying for it and she will come around and warm up to the idea. Good Luck!! -

You can get divorced here in Canada should that happen, it just takes a little longer for all the paper work to make it over here from Mexico or the DR. Thats all. However if you get married in Cuba - both of you must go back to Cuba together to get divorced.....so we arent going to cuba....lol Hope that helps!

I think you should try on a whole bunch of different dresses and get someone to take pictures of you in them. Front shot, side shot and back shot. That is what I did bc I thought I knew what I wanted, but what I actually picked was something completely different. Based on the pictures I found the style of dress I looked best in and then narrowed down dress based on that style only. The dresses I thought I wanted, I looked horrible in when looking at my pics..so glad I did that. Just a thought.. ....in the end, pick what you want....its your wedding day.

Cassie, I wasnt stating this as a fact, it is just my opinion. In my opinion I dont see the need for it Bc I thought that was what a DW was all about. No matter where you choose your wedding to be, in your backyard, to mexico to Rome...its going to be beautiful bc you chose the location that you wanted. I am by no means bashing anyone for wanting to do the centerpeices etc, I just dont understand it. A lot of people talk about doing DW weddings bc its an inexpensive way to get married.....well if your doing all the centrepeices, sashes, chair covers, chuppa, red carpet, etc etc...its just doesnt seem as inexpensive anymore. My wedding/honeymoon is going to cost my just under $6000.00 CAN. Some brides on here are spending over 20K to get married. Im just stating that in my opinion (and from experience as I have been married before) it just seems like a lot of work, stress and expense for something the hotel is supposed to take care of for you. You see threads on here all the time about brides being stressed out and at the end of their rope bc they cant find flowers or centre peices and how do we get all of this down to the resort....the list goes on and on.....so Im just going off of all the threads on here too. It just seems to be a lot of stress for most of the ladies on here. You are def a lucky one in that respect. Im glad that you arent having any of those issues and you are enjoying the process. In the end, everyone needs to do whatever it is that they want, bc in the end, they have to be happy. Thats what counts in the end. I wont be bringing anything and many others will be bringing all of the above...neither wedding will be any less beautiful to the bride that planned it. I just think mine might just be a little less stressful then the ones that are bringing everything down. Maybe I dont handle stress as well as others...that could be it too...I dont know...but it just seems to be a lot of stressed out brides on here....I am going to try to avoid that if I can...lol Good luck with your planning and I wish you all the best!! Maybe that's just me though.

Hey Ashley, I've decided Im not doing any of that. The only thing I have planned is the OOT bags and favours and they are basically done. My main reason for having a DW wedding was to avoid having to worry about all of that stuff (i.e centre peices, table settings etc). I dont want to have to pack and lug it all down there, nor do I want to mail it. I dont want the added stress or expense to be honest with you. I really dont understand it when brides do that as the whole thought behind a DW is to get married with little or no worries and to keep it more informal. Not saying that the brides shouldnt do it if thats what they really want, I just dont quite understand it thats all. I thought not doing those things was the whole reason you booked a destination wedding. But maybe thats not how everyone sees it now. I have seen what some of the brides have brought down for their weddings and how everything was set up and it has always been beautiful...probably much better then the resort would have ever done for them. And to some that is very important. But I know for me and my guests, they wont really care about that stuff bc we are keeping everything informal. I guess if your wedding is more formal, maybe that would be more condusive to the style they are going with. Maybe thats why ladies choose to do all of that. Plus it probably has to do with always dreaming about how they wanted things to look on their day....I think thats great for them....you have to do what you want.....its your day. I think you should do whatever it is in your heart that you want. Dont worry about what others think or say bc in the end, its your wedding . Enjoy!
