    Hi Lori, Welcome to the forum and congratulations. You will find a ton of useful information here. Even if you don't contact your vendors right away, I definitely think you should start thinking about what you envision your day to be and you'll find lots of ideas here on smaller things such as invitations, save the dates, etc.

    Congrats and welcome! The way my friend told me (both that she is engaged and wants me to be her bm) is she got me a book that says something like "how to be a bridesmaid". It was cute

    I agree - you're having appetizers so I think it's fine. Don't let the restaurant pressure you into getting one just because it's "standard".

    I haven't been to Mexico in October but I hear it's a great time to go. If it rains, it's tropical rain so it shouldn't be too bad. I think it technically might be hurricane season but you should definitely double check.

    yay for him caving in! I don't really understand the big deal anyhow...maybe he's not thrilled but if it means so much to you... I'd say, just make him a nice dinner as a thank you (that way he can't back out )

    We have a slightly different story - we are not using a travel agent but somebody who books the hotel rooms under a group contract. The thing is, once we sign the contract, we are fairly locked in. I think the price is fair, but I'm concerned about what will happen if somebody delays booking and finds a nice 48 hour 30% off sale.... We have to get the minimum # of rooms... and I need to politely "encourage" our guests to book through our contact.

    I wish they would just have a straight simple guideline (in writing) about what you can and cannot do. How can one WC say one thing and another say the complete opposite....? They are working at the same hotel....

    I would definitely look at other options asap. This is your wedding day and I just wouldn't risk it. Like you said, you have people flying in from other countries, you need to finalize details, etc. etc. It may not be their fault, but it doesn't change the situation.

    wow I'm sorry to hear that. Is there any way you or your mom can politely explain that you were planning to have your party next summer so that your friends and family can attend and 30 days is just too short of notice?
