Wow, I am so envious of all your perks! It appears the the resorts in Mexico offer much better perks than those in Jamaica. I also went with DW.com and she says that to get the group perks, everyone has to book through her. Its been a great source of stress to me because her rates are a little higher than some other rates you can get through other TAs and on the web so some of my guests have booked elsewhere. Sigh! She says however that we will get the Beaches free wedding etc. with more than 10 rms booked. I wonder if it would be worthwhile contacting beaches to let them know of the guests that did not book through her? I could get25 rms and the 26th is free. I wonder what other perks I am missing out on by going through her?

Mine was 200 pp but I decided not to reserve the rooms ahead of time because i was not sure how many ppl would be coming, and for how long. I have mixed feelings about it because the rm rates are getting higher as January is high season, but everyone has told me not to worry about it . People will sort themselves out as I have alternative much cheaper resort next door for late bookers.

I am also getting married at Sandals, and for these very reasons (SUPER HIGH prices, low photo quality, poor customer service regarding photography, etc.), my fiance and I have booked a photographer off the resort to do the bulk of our photos. We will just be purchasing the (6) 8 x 10 photos for $150 and the $500 DVD from Sandals of the ceremony itself, and that's it for our photo budget going to Sandals. I couldn't see spending thousands of dollars for sub-par photography when a professional off-resort photographer was an affordable alternative. Brian Nejedly is an American Photographer that lives in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and he's agreed to have his associate do a 3-hour combination portrait/TTD photo session for us for only a little over $1000! I am pretty sure we are going to end up with at least 100 digital negatives, so we feel like we got the deal of the century....and will end up with photos we can be proud of and enjoy for years to come! Hope my suggestion to do a little research on local photographers in the area near your resort (and then go off the resort for a photo session) does the trick! Let us know how things turn out. We have a friend who is an expert photographer and camera man but we also want him to be a guest so its only fair to ask him to take some photographs at the ceremony and reception alone. I figure that even if the resort pictures don't turn out very nicely, we would still have some from him.

You'll get lots of help and information here. I just joined last month for my wedding in January in jamaica, and now I have almost everything planned out including vows, location, photographer, At home receptions etc.with help from the information I got on this forum. The posters on this site are really a great bunch and the forum is very addictive, be careful!

I/m getting married in JAnuary and I live in MInnesota so we will have to wait until the end of April to host the AHR. I am from NIgeria so we will be doing another reception there in the summer of next year. I guess it does not really matter as long as people feel that they have been a part of your celebration. I am still torn between a formal reception versus a party but will make up my mind soon.

Ive been thinking about this issue as well. My tentative AHR will not be for a few months after the DW (I live in MN and my guests from warmer countries will not be too thrilled to be invited to a wedding before the month of March !!) I think that it would probably be inappropriate to wear the dress 4 months after the actual wedding??What do you think? I will also be having another AHR in Africa in the summer, I think that would really be too late to wear white. What do you think??

Thanks for your responses, you guys are great! I did take the time to take a few deep breaths and calm down. I then called the TA and she says she will really try to make sure that everyone gets the cheapest rates and she will send them all quotes for both beaches hotels...blah blah blah. I hope this will encourage some people. I only wish I had reserved a block of rooms earlier on but she had also discouraged me from the doing that citing the cost and that the rates would have expired anyway at this time. Anyhow, I am going to try and remember that its my day and that I'll have fun even if its only our immediate families who can attend. I will also call Beaches boscobel to find out if they have availablity on my date. I hope other brides learn from this though,...if in a rush during the holiday season, book very early and badger your guests to do the same :-) Thanks for your support and I'll keep you informed Bosi

oMG! I think I may have made a mistake in chossing Beaches Negril as my wedding location. We just got engaged in June and decided not to waste much time before we get married in January. I was told my by TA at destination weddings that Beaches Negril would be the best choice for me with kids and some older people invited, all inclusive etc. Our guests are just starting to make their reservations and the rates are so high! I have a lot of guests traveling from Africa and Europe so they are already paying a lot for their flights to Jamaica and then to pay so much more for their rooms? All the reasonably priced rms appear to be sold out and so rates are starting at above $3000.00 for a week. I am so afraid that most of our friends and family will not be able to attend because of these rates.Some have already said they can't make it. Others are taking their time and they may be shocked at the prices in a week or two. Some are making reservations at Beaches Sandy Bay which is also included in my group rate but it's gotten mixed reviews on trip advisor and its a diferent resort. I am actually thinking of having people sleep elsewhere but it would be so expensive to pay for their day passes for the wedding, and we would not be able to hang out with people who've traveled so far to be with us. Perhaps I shold change the location of the wedding, but weve already sent out STDs and IVs. Don't know what to do, and its worrying me so much.

I am using DW.com. I also found out that they are TAs. Pam is helpful but I think that she offered Beachs Negril as being the best place for me when she knew that I'd probably have liked somewhere cheaper.I didnt even know about RIU and some of the other all inclusives. Now I have guests staying at both Beaches Negril and Beaches Sandy Bay which is not as nice but is cheaper. Her prices are also higher than what some other guests have been able to find but I hinted t her that some of my guests are going to book by themselves if they can find a cheaper price, and we've now been getting cheaper quotes.:-) She is generally helpful though and it would have ben difficult to this by myself.

I am getting married at Beaches Negril Jamaica in January 2010. I thought the legal aspect would also be a part of the whole thing so Im a little confused about people asking about legal ceremonies in the US. Am I missin something?

I am geting married on jan 6. at Beaches Negril. Amber actually is in Miami not in Jamaica.It took her a while to get back to me initially but now I have system where i send her an email asking for a specific time that would be convenient for both of us to talk, and I call her at that time. Its been working very well.

Pictures were very beautiful. It looked like an intimate wedding and looked like you guys had so much fun. Hope you are feeling much better.

My parents insist on singing two hymns during the ceremony So I plan on making thempopular ones and to ask a steel band to accompany the hymns.

Hello Girls! I wanted to share some pics of my Beaches wedding which was May 16, 2009. The entire experience was absolutely amazing! I would do it all over again in a second. We ended up doing the private 3 hour dinner which we had under a big white tent on the beach. It had a dance floor and everything. We brought our ipod and speakers and they were able to have a table setup for that. It was beautiful. All of my guest raved about the food (although the jerk chicken was a little too spicy for some). I do have to say that Nikki and Andrea at Beaches are absolutely amazing. They couldn't be any nicer. We had a slight rain delay the day of the wedding (I walked down the aisle and then it started pouring) and Nikki kept reassuring me that everything was going to be ok and not to worry that I was going to have the wedding of my dreams. Your reception on the beach: Did you have a raised hard dancefloor and if so, was it condusive to being danced on by about 40 people? 2. Was there any privacy at the beach reception? 3. Hi all, Im new to the website and I am planning my destination wedding in 6 months- Weding day is jan 6th at BEaches NEgril at 4.00pm. I am expecting about 50 ppl from different countries and would like a gd experience for them so i chose the $75 PP dinner but will get back $15 pp as we are booking more than 10 rms. I plan to be wed on the beach gazebo and am trying to get the flowers , invitations, colors to match, favors etc. Gosh its stressful. What do you think about reception locations?
