WOW BRIDGET!!! Congratulations!!!! The photos look amazing and you and your new hubby look so happy and in love in the photos. Really, is there anything else that matters I think if the rest of us can look that happy on our big days, then all this planning will all be worth it. Can't wait to hear more! Alliecat, I'll email you some wedding info that I have today. Let me know if there's anything else you need. I think we're all a bit biased here but we all prefer the La Romana resort to the Punta Cana resort. Also, check out tripadvisor. The reviews of DLR were what swayed me!

Can you clarify which hotel you're at. If you're at LR, I can email you some prices, etc. Liane, I just added you on facebook!

  4. Hey ladies, sorry I've come so late into the ceremony discussion. I have emailed Tiara and she has agreed to "MC" the symbolic ceremony for free. I will give her a list of names and she will welcome the guests at the beginning of the ceremony and then call out the different speakers (my sister-in-law, my mother-in-law, etc.) who will do readings. Then my fiance and I will say our personal vows and Tiara will "announce us husband and wife." Since we will already be married at that point (although noone will know), this will not be a lie on her part. It seems like a better option than having to pay someone at the resort. Also I asked about the cost of the wooden canopy or "huppa." She responded that it's $350 US undecorated. I have asked for the dimensions so I will probably take some flowing cloth with me to add and I've also bought tons of starfish that I will put on the back of the chairs and also on the sides of the canopy, maybe with a palm leaf. I was inspired by this http://www.dreamsresorts.com/dretu/i...ding_pic02.gif, although my colours will only be white (and beige for the starfish & raffia).
  5. Hey ladies, I don't recall an extra 26% on top of the $1000 to use the SSG. Where did you get the extra from. I'm going to look back on my emails with Tiara but if you're just eating from the SSG menu, I believe it's just $1000. Does anyone know where the extra 26% came from (sorry, if it's already been discussed in previous pages ... this thread is getting reaaaaalllllyyyyy long)

I know all the stores in china town look the same but if I can get starfish without having them shipped, that would be amazing.
  7. This is exactly what I was looking for. My brother travels to the US for work so I'm going to have these shipped to his workplace. He's gonna hate me ... but whatever ....
  8. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH LADIES, These are wonderful ideas. I feel so much better now! I will be using some of this wording for my invites. You ladies are the best!
  9. Hi ladies, Sorry I've been gone a while. Work shipped me off to the Olympics last minute and I was working non-stop for 3 weeks. No wedding planning ... nothing. Now I'm back and feel I have to catch up. "Congrats" to the ladies who have gotten married and "welcome" to the newbies. As far as the ceremony goes, I think that I asked Tiara if I could have guests doing readings at my wedding and then just have her read a short comment like "I now pronounce you man and wife." I'll have to ask her about this again. We are getting married in Toronto to save on legal issues but I don't want my guests to know. I will just have a few do readings and make it look like Tiara is officiating. Hopefully that will be free. As for the chuppah --- 800?? Is that with flowers? I only want the wooden beams with some cloth ... and I can bring my own cloth. Anyone know what the $800 includes?

If someone knows how send me a message and maybe I can email them to you or something and you can upload. THANKS!! Julie Please, please send to me as well! [email protected] Thanks
  11. Hi all, I'm sending out one invitation for everyone to invite them to both the destination wedding and the AHR. I know most people will not be able to come to the destination wedding with us but I don't want anyone having hard feelings about not being invited. Has anyone used 1 invitation for both events? Can you please share the wording Please thanks!
  12. Ladies, has anyone done an invite that includes details for both the destination wedding AND the AHR? I'm inviting everyone to both (even though I know most people will not come to the destination part)
  13. Nadia, I wanted to send my thanks as well. The photos are stunning. I'm so excited. Now I just want to stay an extra week and enjoy it all, but unfortunately my fiance is not a "sit on the beach" type of guy. Hopefully we'll still get some time before and after the wedding to enjoy this great resort. We're having a private ceremony in Toronto before we leave. The pastor lives near High Park and will do the ceremony for $80. He also sent me a "word ceremony planning guide" that walks you through how to design your ceremony. It's about 50 pages but if you ladies PM me, I can email it to you. I'm conflicted about not having an actual legal ceremony there as well, but I'll also feel better if I have Canadian wedding documents in case I need them in the future. (Just being practical). I guess I'll have to think of another way to "trick" my guests into thinking they're watching the real deal. Maybe I'll tell them that Tiara just has to witness everything and she can sign the papers. Then I can have one a couple of my guests read different parts of the ceremony.

Also, has anyone seen the DLR fan page on facebook? There looks to be a couple February brides on there - I wish they would come to BDW to share their experiences! Hey Amy, I wanted the SSG menu ut can't seem to open the document. Can you email it to me: [email protected]. Thanks!
  15. I love the paper lantern idea ladies. I actually bought some lanterns from China town thinking I'd put them on the beach leading up to my "altar" , but will it even be worth it if it's daylight? But since I have them, I may just put them in random spots around the SSG for when we're eating / dancing.

(That's a great idea btw! How big are they?) Hey Amy, The $1000 is something Tiara has quoted all of us. Email and ask her and if she doesn't respond the same, I can send you my email. You just choose of the Seaside Grill menu and everyone has to eat the same thing, but since it's seafood and steak at the restaurant, I'm assuming it will be good. .... speaking of which, Nadia, can you get us a copy of the current Seaside Grill menu? You are a god send! The speaker is called the Traynor TVM10 speaker. the cord just attaches to your ipod. It's about 1 foot tall / deep so you could fit two in a suitcase, no problem!

I'm really excited to examine the details of this resort. I think that once I've actually seen the spaces that I want to use, I'll really be able to envision what can and cannot work. hjack - what a fantastic response you received from Tiara! I'm hoping that she will be even more forthcoming in person! My FI speaks spanish so there should really be nothing that gets lost in translation! Happy New Year to all!! Nadia Have a safe and fun trip Nadia. Can't wait to hear about all your findings. HJack, thanks for sharing. BTW, some of us are renting the entire Seaside Grill instead of getting the silver package. It's $1000 outright and includes appetizer, dinner & dessert. Also, she's letting us use our ipod with speakers for free. ALSO -- ladies --- I was just at Long & McQuade in Canada and they rent portable speakers for $10 per month. A couple of those should be more than enough for all your guests. I think that's what I'm going to go with. Someone I know uses them and covers them in plastic bags when it's raining and she can still hear everything, so I figure if they're in plastic, they'll be no worries of sand getting in and I'll have great sound. BY THE WAY --- I booked our airline tickets --- finally! So --- 12 booked so far!
  18. Happy Holidays everyone. Amygirl, I guess 2009 will be the last year for most of us here as singles! LOL! I'm just going to spend the remainder of the year relaxing and then it's back to the planning. I might even take in the Wedding Show on Jan 2. I'm still looking for ideas for the AHR so this might be a good resource!
  19. oh what the heck ... since I was thinking about it ... here's something from a quick google search, but I'm going to hit up some craft stores after the holidays too Discount plastic containers & flower vases - cheap wholesale prices

Apparently you can't bring any type of wood like that to another country because there may be bugs in it and cause plague. I know it sounds silly but we found out the hard way and were pretty upset to leave a really cool souvenir at the airport! Hey Jennifer Were you carrying the wood out where they could see it or was it in your suitcase when they stopped you? We have a big hockey bag that we carry golf stuff in when we're travelling but this time it might be a branch holder instead. Vases - I'm going to ask Tiara if she'll let us have 1 empty vase on each table. Might be even better than bringing our own vases. Also, I'm going to start looking at non-breakable vase options after the holidays (XMas gifts are still not finished)
  21. Hey Sungoddess, you can view their packages at 2010 packages.
  22. I'm getting wooden chairs. Here's an idea I saw on google I kind a like this following idea, except instead of just a knot, adding a bow. You would use less material than if you wrapped the material around the whole chair. I'm just going to use tulle and I'm going to look into buying a roll of tulle and cut it myself. It will be cheaper that way. Save-on-crafts.com has them (for the US residents on this blog). Since I'm in Canada, I'm going to check Fabricland and some of the discount material stores on Queen St. W. in Toronto (5 minute walk from work).
  23. Hi all, I have these two gorgeous Vera Wang sample dresses. Neither has been worn. Both are $2000 each or best offer (plus shipping) this price is less than half price (and if you're in Canada, where prices are inflated, these are less than 1/3 of the price ... trust me, I've been to the Vera Wang boutique). The dress is a size 10 and made of English netting that criss-crosses on the bodice. There are also crystal details on the straps which are beautiful. The bottom is a modified mermaid style. This is a brand new Vera Wang wedding gown. It is a sample so it has never been worn. The style # is 1G077. The dress is a size 8 and made of silk with a halter front, mermaid or trumpet bottom and a stunning back with flower detail. Please PM me if you're interested

Hey Maybride, It looks like Tiara's letting me bring my own speakers too. I'm going to start looking into the best ones for this. Good to know that Bose will do the job. I'm going to start pricing them. Also, I asked Tiara about the price of white table cloths and napkins and they are included so the only things I'm thinking of bringing are some chair sashes and possibly centerpieces. I don't want to pay $70 per table for flowers so I'm going to take some branches and non-breakable vases and probably buy a few flowers from Tiara to add to the centerpieces. BTW, that's not me in the photo.... just found it on another website.
