I am looking at ordering mine from the same site, except I need about double what you bought! I think I'm getting the same mug that you have shown, just in different colours. I found one link to a number of CDN sites, but none had prices that could compare and/or the minimum order number was way too high. I'd love to have ordered locally but so far it's not happening.

I'm just not sure if they are quite big enough to clip onto the handles of travel mugs like I wanted!! Maybe if there are a couple of us that have different colours, we could split them between us? I'd prefer purple the most, and would go for the blue or black as second choices... merocket59 - It took me a few minutes to figure out what OTC stood for but I got it! I was wondering if you could tell me whether or not they'd be able to clip on to the handle of a travel mug though... most of my guests won't be going anywhere on the resort without their mugs and keys so why not have them attached together!?! Thanks! Kittenheart - I'm in the same club worrying about whether those key holders would be the right size!! I'm relieved to hear that they should fit everything we need. Originally I wasn't going to do luggage tags but now that a site with the little plastic luggage loops was posted (luggage tag loops) then I just might have to order some MORE key holders just for those!! LOL!

April 2010 Brides - 6 Month Update
echo2_62 replied to robinkar's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
YAAAAAAAAAAAAH 6 Month Mark!! OMG I didn't quite realize it was there already but SO EXCITED! Done: - resort, wedding package and date BOOKED - wedding dress ordered, arriving in Jan/Feb. - invitations made and ready to be sent (already have 12 others booked!) - photographer BOOKED In Progress: - OOT bags, some items purchased but still lots to go! - wedding website up but still needs some blanks filled in - have bridesmaids, still no dresses! - found my shoes, BM & GM shoes, but need to order online TO DO: - figure out FI's clothes, GM clothes - find and buy rings - figure out reception menu - trial run for hair, make-up etc - decorations - book marriage commissioner for legal ceremony (also hush hush except I let it slip to my sister already! Good thing she's in the wedding and will probably be the witness for the legal part anyways! OOPS!) - veil: do I want one or not? - pre-travel brochure/package - decide on group outing activity (Xel-Ha, Tulum ruins etc) Uh-oh... more things on the TO-DO list than are crossed off. Now that's a scary thought. -

Obviously I want a great wedding... can anyone put my mind at ease?... the hotel & prices look great, but unsure about the wedding part! Hi j9! Welcome to the DPA thread! If you've got the time to read through the many, many pages here I'm sure you'll find lots of great reviews of the resort. I can't comment on everything that your consultant told you, but the note that you get slow responses from the wedding coordinator (WC) onsite seems to be a fairly common concern and partial reality. At DPA there are two main coordinators, Jacy & Sandra, who many girls here have dealt with more than I have. The general trend seems to be that you get a slower reply by email when your wedding is still months out, but the closer it gets the faster the email reply. I've also called to ask them a few questions when I felt that I just couldn't get any further without having an answer. I think the important thing to keep in mind there is just how many brides are flooding the WC's with emails combined with having the actual weddings to pull off each day. With a little patience, it really isn't too much of a wait and they are just a phone call away! I hope you are able to settle your mind once you've heard from the other girls here too. And I can tell you that I am VERY excited for my wedding at DPA in April!

I can't quite remember, but if you contact 'mwcfarms' she might be in need of some card holders and be willing to split an order with you. I'm already splitting my order otherwise I'd help you out! And worst case is that it's still only about $12-$14 for the set so not the biggest overspend maybe?!?

My mom was the same way with the computer for a very loooong time. I also wrote out a little instruction booklet with pictures and everything so that she knew what all the icons opened. I think for her it was just a matter of practicing so if your mom isn't willing to play around a little bit then she'll continue to be frustrated by it unfortunately. But just let her know that lots of other moms are learning too so it's not just her! And for your own sanity, at least you know we've all gone through very similar things with our moms and made it out the other side!!

LOL, I can just see people's faces if they got an email saying "Our RSVP date has come and gone. As we have not received any reply from you, we'd like to say thank you for your assistance in uninviting yourself to our wedding. We're sorry that you'll miss out on the wonderful vacation that we'll be having with the rest of our friends and family. Have a great day!" Oh man, I am laughing too hard at my own jokes right now! Sorry ladies! Hahaha! (I've been at work for faaaaarr too long today!). Tracy, I'm sorry that your guests are all being so stupid about not replying. I know I had issues when writing my invites with asking for the reply because it's hard to clarify that you aren't expecting everyone to BOOK by the rspv date, just give an honest confirmation of their plans to ATTEND. I really hope that you start to get some replies coming in over the next couple months (at least!) as people start to realize that it is indeed time to start planning their vacation schedules for the new year. I say if you haven't heard anything from anyone still by the holidays, that you start spreading your own rumours about uninviting people. Maybe then people will get the hint!

suzy - you've got the AHR thing right And I only had about 30-35 invites total to do so I included return postage. I was planning on sending the rest even though many of them are close enough to hand deliver. It's so rare to get any REAL mail that isn't bills or sales garbage!! The ONLY reason that I paid so much for those other four invites was to have them sent through express post. I'll deal with the extra costs (even though I agree they were ridiculous!) just to have the satisfaction of one less issue with the inlaws right now. Short story, there is a list a mile long of why they aren't happy with us, 95% to do with the wedding, and we've spoken with them once in the last five weeks almost as a result. So in the end, its worth the $40!! Sheesh! LOL, and I thought I had a *good* relationship with the inlaws before this!!

FINALLY FINALLY one of my BM ordered her dress! i sent a friendly email out this past weekend with tons of links to dresses (they are picking their own black dress) that i thought would look good. my favorite was a gorgeous convertible dress form victoria's secret since you can wear it a ton of ways for all body types, it's very affordable and it looks super comfortable. Victoria's Secret - NEW! Ruched Convertible Dress erin - too funny that you commented on the things that each of us will pay for just so that we don't have to worry about them - I just paid about $40 to mail four invites (yipes!) to the Future-IL's, Brother-IL and F-grandparents-IL to shut them up! LOL! We've been having a few difficulties with them and one issue was the LACK of formal invitations in their hands. So now it's done and I don't have to think about it anymore And i LOVE that dress!!!!!!!!!!!! I had been looking at a different convertible dress that was at least double that cost but I really liked the concept since my three bridesmaids have such completely different shapes. The only problem now is the lack of Victoria's secret stores nearby to me :S I am so spending my night on the website to see what else they have. I'd never have thought of checking there for dresses... shows how CDN I am!

Hey Sarah - i think some of the draw for the fake flowers is based purely on a cost thing. I know my wedding package doesn't include much by way of flowers for the wedding party etc so to add them on could get costly pretty quickly. This would just be a more simple solution in that regard plus you'd also know exactly what the arrangements would look like (considering right now I feel like I'd be leaving it to chance since I don't know specifics about floral arrangements very well). As for passports, I had included a note about them directly on my invitations along with the link to the government website with all the application/renewal information for everyone. We'll likely include a quick line about it again when we send out RSVP reminders in the New Year.

Tracy, I think I'm going to commission you to make my flower arrangements LOL! What dollar store did you get your flowers from? Was it a chain store or just a one-of kind of place? And HI Melidell!! Welcome to the site/thread!

Adrianne, I'm on the April 2010 thread and there are at least a few girls there having troubles with getting people to book too, wedding parties included. It seems to be that people are very non-committal right now and for all of us I really hope that after the holidays it will be easier for people to plan. I think that six-eight months seems far away for everyone but those of us getting married!! I didn't really do official STD's so I am just sending out invites now (and don't worry I'll post pictures on the weekend for everyone!) but also planning to send out reminder cards to everyone in mid January. I think if your invites are going out around then as you said, it will be a good time for everyone to start getting their act together finally!! I just heard from Jacy the other day and she's going to speak with the food & bev. manager and the chef to see what menu options would be available for the cheaper entree meals. I can let you know what she gets back to me with if you'd like?! Ginalyn - piggy flu.... LOL! That's totally what I call it too but hearing it from someone else is still somehow more funny.

Hehe, don't worry about the extra posts Emily! I think we've all had the same issues once or twice We're with the paradise package right now too, but I doubt that we'll be upgrading. We knew from the beginning that we would definitely have more than 20 people for our wedding so right away the additional costs for the reception alone were adding up really, really quickly. A couple of the other girls had mentioned that there were other reception options in the price range of $18-45USD/plate and I heard from Jacy yesterday and she is talking with the chef and the food/beverage manager to find out what kind of menu would be available. And I think because we have larger numbers, around 50 ppl, our meal may have to be a buffet which I think will be okay if it is a more private reception. We figured this was a better option for us, even if it does mean paying a bit extra for the other add-ons. We haven't figured out where to have our reception yet either. That's next on the list, because I know there are a couple other weddings on our date already. So far it doesn't seem to be any of the girls on this site though

The whole concept of real vs. fake and all the many options just has me totally mystified and scares me LOL!

For any Alberta brides on this thread - there isn't an option to do the legal requirements at city hall as some brides had mentioned doing in other provinces (like Ontario). I actually called the city to ask because I couldn't find anything on the city or provincial website, aside from a listing of marriage commissioners. So anyways, if you're doing the legal part in Calgary like we are, then hopefully that clears up some questions for you at least.

Emily - welcome to the DPA thread! How long are you going to be at the resort after your wedding? I'll be getting there on April 12th so it'd be exciting to hear how your wedding was if we're both there at the same time! Our actual wedding date isn't until the end of that week on the 16th. What wedding pkg are you doing? Dee - that storm yesterday was RIDICULOUS! I'm in the very north end of Calgary and it got us more than friends of ours 20 minutes south even. LOL, for the second time this season our bbq was rolling across the deck too! Last time it toppled right off but this time we caught it - literally! Hope you survive without your internet over the next few weeks. I'm not sure what kind of farming you have, but all I can picture is cows tipping over right now LOL! What a crazy bit of weather that was!

Suzy I don't think it's tacky at all to do the bubba kegs for your wedding party and other mugs for the rest of your guests. I would guess that everyone knows by now that wedding parties often do their own little things anyways so it wouldn't be out of place at all. Question for you - where did you get your first aid kits?? I've been looking a little bit and so far the only ones I found were maybe $1.50 each which (as you know!) adds up quickly when buying 50 of them. As for printing out puzzles and stuff, you could always get some cardstock or bristol board to make a front and back cover and have a personalized little booklet for your guests? It might just collect it all together for you nicely... but just a thought!
-
Tracy! I'm excited for you that your parents booked their trip today! I didn't think mine would be able to come either and they were close to the first ones that booked so I totally know how awesome it is We have a handful of our other friends that are booked for sure so we see it close to you - it's the two of us, enough people to make a group and anything/anyone else will just be a bonus. I think for all of us, it may just take some patient and persistent reminders to get people on the move. Still takes a bit of the fun out of buying goodies for the OOT bags, making us wait and everything

Engagement party standards for NON DW wedding
echo2_62 replied to echo2_62's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Thanks ladies!! I'm glat that I won't be messing up on anything! LOL! I'm totally not one for etiquette! -
Suzy! YAY another Calgary bride!!! There are a couple of us that are trying to order some things for our OOT bags etc in bulk so that we can try to get better rates or cut down on shipping. We've got some ideas running for bags, mugs and items for the bags so far... if you want I can sum it all up in a private message (PM) with the links for you to take a look. And don't worry about having 50 people at your wedding - WE ARE TOO! LOL! I think in total we'll have invited close to 60 so we might not actually get 50 but it'll be close. We did a poll of our friends ahead of time so we have a sorta good idea of who's planning to come. We also have about 14 booked/confirmed too which is exciting! And our wedding is maybe two weeks before yours. Ooh, dinner time - let me know if you need someone close by for help with anything! meghan

Dee, If you go toBridesmaid Dresses and Formal Gowns: The Dessy Group and go through the link there, you can look at all their bridesmaids dresses AND play around with the colours and matching accessories! I was on there last night actually saw more dresses that I liked online than when I was in the store. I think all the dresses they show on there are available at either Ethos, the Bridal Centre or House of Brides (might have one of those wrong but I think that's them). I doubt I'm actually getting formal bridesmaids dresses ordered BUT I will for sure be ordering my girls flip-flops (and mine!!) from here and hopefully some of the guys' stuff too, but that's to look through tonight
