Can I use favor bags as placecards?
echo2_62 replied to TCIbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I think it's a neat idea to use your gifts as place holders, but I think I agree a bit with bholthof in that having individual gift bags for everyone on your tables might start to get a bit cluttered. I'm guessing that you'll also be doing your centre pieces and everything on the tables too, so you want to show off all the work you've done for those! What kind of popped in my head was that instead of having a regular seating chart, which it sounds like maybe you're trying to avoid, you could always have a table set up near the front of your reception area with groupings of your gifts arranged similar to the setup of your tables. So if you had six tables (arranged like they would look on a dice for example) then you could do the same with your gifts, and alternate the rolled pashminas with the guys gifts surrounding a table number. I definitely think you could do a lot of really neat and creative things with this though so don't give up! I think it would be important for me to have my guests really appreciate all the details. So if that means separating the gifts from the tables completely, or just downsizing them a little so that they don't overwhelm the dinner tables then go for it! -

Also, how did you book your group? I was hoping to do a room/flight together and my Destination Wedding consultant said I had to do it seperately. Really?? I think I need to find a new travel agent One option to help get your wedding date booked would be to send an email and then wait maybe a day or two and then call Jacy or Sandra (another coordinator). They might not be able to give you an answer over the phone, but they'll at least know that you've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get a date booked. I just bought a calling card instead of using my home phone line. As for booking, I didn't go with a travel agent at all! It still makes me a bit nervous that people might not get the flights we wanted for them, and even more nervous that the resort might get booked completely... but it was just a better option. There have been some girls here who have found great deals booking their flights separately from the rooms at the resort, but we booked ours together because the rates from Canada were better that way. I think it all depends on the size of your guest list and what you're comfortable with and how much work you can take on. As you can imagine, there's a bit more involvement if you're not using a travel agent, but i've found overall it isn't too bad. Good luck!! -meghan

Okay get ready to laugh some more. We normally will go to bed at like 9:30 or 10pm because FI is prematurely OLD!! LOL!, okay well really it's just because he's a morning person and we miss a bit of rush hour each way by going in to work earlier and leaving earlier. So to do that, I get up at 5am every day I'm totally NOT a morning person however so I'm not exactly pleasant in the morning and I'm still wanting to stay up later even if I am tired. It started when we were dating, because if we were each on our own schedules, we'd barely even see each other! Plus we often had evening sports and stuff to get off to etc. etc. But it totally sucks getting the urge to jump up and go for a run or something, knowing that I'll only have maybe five or six hours sleep ahead of me. And I really, really, really need my sleep!

Ugh the last few days have been too frustrating! I've been super busy during the day time and haven't gotten my workouts in, but then when i'm exhausted later at night (think at least 10 or 11pm) all I want to do is jump out of bed and go run on my treadmill! What the heck is wrong with my internal clock!?!?! LOL! Good job with getting on the elliptical Suzy! Hopefully it will actually help your body to fight that yucky cold right out of you!

Yah I was really happy to find these because we can get whichever colour best matches the dresses... which we haven't bought yet We're looking at the convertible ones from Victoria's secret so far. The flip-flops have about four different shades of purple so it leaves some options open. And I figured they might be a bit more comfy/dressy because of the satiny material of the straps.

Oh but the bus ride in to work this morning was SO FUN!! Ours didn't get completely stuck going up a hill, but i heard of a few that did. And there was some buses sliding and jumping curbs too, plus others making people get out and walk a stop or two uphill! Yep, its definitely the first snow of the season - everyone forgets how to drive for winter!!!!! Suzy, where are you ordering your shoes from? Maybe I wouldn't mind a wedge shoe... maybe

Need help finding sandals!!!

I was trying to figure out what the heck barefoot sandals were!!! LOL! I wouldn't have thought of these at all. For another option - especially for us CDN girls - I will be getting flip flops for our entire wedding party at: Dessy Accessories, because for the girls you can custom colour the flip-flops and they are SO cheap!!! Plus, you can order accessories for the guys to match, such as their ties... -
Wow MelDal! I was looking at the dresses on VS as well but I think we might be going with one of the convertible dresses which are closer to $100 and I'm totally happy with that! I figured they would all be able to get the same look but still be able to wear it to suit their own style more too. My bm's all have very different body shapes so why not! Awesome that your girls all picked a cheap one for you too. We're buying our wedding party's shoes as a gift and even though at first I wasn't sure whether I'd be paying for the bm's dresses, I want to at least pay for half. That being said of course we'll do the same for the our gm as well. I have to agree with the other ladies here that since our friends are all spending enough just to come to the wedding with us, then i want to make sure that I do something for them as well!

Hey! I'm going with blue flip flops with my dress! It's my something blue and also a joke with FI, so it totally works for me! I'm getting these in royal blue... you might have to hover over the colours and then click to get the right one... sometimes the link picks a colour at random! taffeta flip-flops. I say go for the bright pink shoes!!!

Hey Mel, Are you wanting help specifically with the DIY version of these, or would you like the link to where I ordered mine?!?! LOL! I wasn't able to open some of the templates and whatnot that were posted here, and didn't have the time/confidence to make them myself either so I paid my small fee and got them done for me. I don't at all regret it either because I LOVE them!! Here's a couple quick links to other threads that might get you going in the right direction:BDW/forum/f69/how-do-i-get-logo-50017/ This one you need to have enough points to open the files, but will definitely help you through... just post your heart out if you aren't at the 150 number just yet... I googled and found a couple links to Kentucky pitbull rescues, but I don't know much about them at all. Kentucky Pit Bull Rescue This one has LOTS of extra links and info to help you out! American Pit Bull Rescue. This one might help you find an all breed rescue nearby you Dog Rescues of Kentucky. Bully Bliss K9 rescue All or Nothing Pitbull Rescue Haha, the list goes on and on. I don't know ANYTHING about Kentucky so I'm not sure which groups are near you etc. but often time many of the rescue groups have previous contacts with other groups and can hopefully network to find you the help that you need. You've done an awesome job so far with giving this dog water and blankets etc. just be careful with her food since she sounds like she's a little fragile and too much at once could really disrupt her insides if she hasn't eaten much recently. I would definitely advise contacting some vets offices near you to get her in and checked out. Be upfront with them and ask if they will cover part of the costs since she is a rescue and you're not working with any rescue organization yet. Some places are really good about that so you never know! You're right not to bring her in contact with your own dogs so if your mom isn't allowed to have her in the building, even as a temporary solution, then perhaps you can find a friend who would be willing to help out while you find a rescue group. Good luck and keep us posted on how she's doing! I can't wait until you get some pictures posted for us to see!

We leave on the 9th for 2 weeks and 15 members of our family will arrive on the 13th for 1 week. I got a confirmation of the date and the document from Jacy. Still trying to figure out the reception location. Does it cost something to eat at any restaurant? I wrote el patio for now but still not sure! My most important question for now (sorry if it was asked before, not done reading!) is: Coming from Canada, do we need the apostille on our birth certificate if we were not married before? If not, we just bring passeports and certificates there and they will deal with the paperwork? We want the legal ceremony. Well I'll keep looking at the previous post and I will try to put a picture of us under my name. I would also like one of those nice timeline but I can't find it yet. Talk to you soon and thanks for all the info! Sorry for the probable mistakes, I am francophone! Welcome Mylene! You'll find a huge amount of help on this site! As for the restaurants, there are a few different options. If you are going with one of the wedding packages, you may already have meals included and just have to pay some additional fee if you go over the limit of people that are allowed. If you haven't chosen one of these packages, there are other reception options for between $20-45 per person. I don't have more details on that however as I'm still waiting for more details from Jacy. You can ask her to send you the Wedding Package and other details as well. Although i'm also in Canada (here in Calgary Alberta) I unfortunately can't answer your question about the legal paperwork you need. We decided that it was too much headache and are doing the legal part here and a symbolic ceremony at the resort (although our guests don't know that!!!). I did a very quick google search and found the website for the Mexican Consulates office in Montreal. That would be the first place that I would contact for more clarification!!!! Go to: Mexican Consulate in Montreal, Canada. Finally, if you want to add one of the countdowns to your signature, I just went to tickerfactory.com. You enter your wedding date and pick your design then it will give you a 'code' that you can copy and paste. The best place to go for help with your signatures and countdown type stuff is: Signature Help & Testing. HAVE FUN!!! -meghan

Mel - I was thinking of wearing heels as well but I realized that since I don't know the resort well enough yet to know how much I'll be walking to get from my room to the gazebo, to the reception etc... I figured I was better off in flats because I would totally be the one that would trip, or roll my ankle walking through sand in a pair of heels! And of course when I found out that I could get specially dyed ones for me and my bm's, it just seemed like a bit better option.

I don't think I'd heard of it before actually. I'm ordering shoes for the whole wedding party - brown leather flip-flops for the gm, black leather for FI, narrow strap specially dyed flip flops for the bm's (purple) and ribbon strapped flip flops specially dyed BLUE for me!! FI and I have an inside joke that the first time he actually said he loved me it sounded so casual as if he were just telling me he had a pair of blue shoes. So now instead of saying "I love you" to each other, especially in public/group/work scenarios, we just say "blue shoes" so needless to say the idea was EASY for me!! I'm ordering all the flip-flops from one main site, but included the separate links so that you can just go right to them! GM - Brown sandles BM - African Voilet (purple) flip-flops FI - Black Sandles ME! - Royal Blue taffeta flip-flops

I think for the "I DO" rhinestones, you can just get them at Michaels?? I don't know how durable they would be for the bottom of your shoes but I they seem to hold up on clothing?!?!

Kimmy - I'm getting married on a friday too!! We chose it for a bunch of reasons actually. Partly based on flight availability, partly because we needed the option for legal wedding requirements (but we're not doing that anymore so moot), flexibility in travel dates (we asked guests to book monday to monday, but also know that some of our guests can only travel on the weekends). Basically it just worked out best for us all around. And I *totally* know what you mean about trying to help your guests avoid the airplane hangover! A few of my friends were asking if it was okay to book from Saturday to Saturday which of course I said it was IF they didn't mind the hangover! LOL! I'm trying to *encourage them to book on either the Sunday or Monday... hehehe, but I totally posted on our website that we'd prefer no one to book later than Monday so that we can have a few days to ourselves. LOL, that was my nice way to tell them all to get lost! Hahaha!

I am really, really happy for you!!! Congrats on being a Mrs. and having your very own Mr.!! It's too bad that there was still some tension there from your inlaws but given everything else that had occurred before you left, I'm sure there was also a lot of relief that they just kept their mouths shut! It's time to focus on your new marriage and your new husband and enjoy every single second of your life together!!!!

(and it's actually my girlfriends 'song' with her boyf!). And as for the letter you sent, I think you stated it well for people that you had to go and seek an extension because they were the ones who didn't reply. And also that it isn't your own deadline, but rather one that was given to you by the resort, so hopefully people will be more understanding down the road when you have to put your foot down once the date comes and goes. Hopefully you'll get some renewed feedback from your guests and they smarten up finally!

LOL! I would TOTALLY use a fake ring! Hahaha! Just after FI and I got engaged, my ring was in being sized and I felt so naked without it, even though i'd really only been wearing it a couple weeks. So instead I wore this awesomely awful pink plastic ring with little plastic rhinestones in it, and started telling everyone that was the ring he proposed with! It was SO funny watching people's reactions!!! Another idea, if you're ring isn't vastly unique in its shape from far away (or in pictures that aren't close-ups) then maybe you have a girlfriend who's ring you could temporarily borrow, just so that you see some sparkle in the e-pics? And then if you want to do hand shots still, you could just do them another day because I think you mentioned you have the same photographer for ALL your pics correct?? OH! And i don't mean to say that your ring is "normal" by any means because of course its yours! Just wanted to clarify that!

boo, wouldn't let me submit the form I think it might be because I'm in canada I'll ask around about it here. A few of my friends are hair stylists so they would likely know.

Well I am sure that if your house has some turkey cooking in it then this kitty is going to come running right for you! One other thought that I had, and I'm not sure whether you'd be willing to try but... you mentioned that there is a door from your house into the garage. I had wondered if this was in a mud room/laundry room that also has a door that can close off to the rest of the house. I'm just thinking that since the cat is so obviously craving warmth but is still very timid of the new space, then perhaps you could coax him into the garage but leave the inner door open so that he can get used to the sounds and smells of your house? Your other cats would remain completely protected still, which is important, but also give this guy a chance to check you out a little further on his own terms. And of course at night you could still just leave him in the garage with his box and blankets etc. Plus it might give him some more pleasant experiences to associate you with, as opposed to just feeling like he is trapped in a strange place all of a sudden. As for whether or not he's fixed, that can be a tough call sometimes. Our one boy is fixed but still has some shape where "the boys" used to be, however our female cat (the one we rescued) is fixed but doesn't have the ponch like females would tend to get. And she is tiny as well, but we know that she used to have a home so we don't suspect worms in her case. It honestly might just be that he's a small, or young, cat! Good luck and I hope you all have a great thanksgiving weekend - fuzzies included!!!!
