  1. What a pretty spot! It's got such a rustic feel. Do you know if it's open to public at all? I wouldn't mind going to get some photos there... I hope your wedding planning is going well! Mexico will be loads of fun!!

We also looked into Hanua Kai Lani for the wedding but in the end it was just way out of our budget. I think it's a gorgeous place and I'm sure you'll love it there, too! Congratulations! April Hey April! I looked through your pics - you were such a beautiful bride and you both look so happy! I'm relieved to hear that the food was good!! I think another struggle I've been having is I don't have a great sense of what the place is like from the few photos on the internet that I could find (or that Spago's could provide me). Were you out on the lanai or were you in the private dining room? Did you also get to make a trip to Honua Kai Lani? You wouldn't happen to have any scouting pics, would you? Huey
  3. Aw, you shouldn't feel sick because you do look beautiful! It's a fabulous dress on you! I think because you are so petite, the halter and extra detailing works against you a little bit by elongating your torso. If you change dresses and you want to look taller, a higher waistline (empire) would do the trick. If you stick with this dress, I think hemming it and heels will do wonders!! Your hubby will think you are gorgeous either way! Good luck! Let us know what you decide!
  4. That is so helpful! We were hoping to charter to boat to do that exact trip, but not sure where to start. sdnative222: Do you remember how much it was to rent those digital underwater cameras? filby42: When you say that you booked through a discount tour booker, do they give good deals when chartering a boat? It looks like it would be $1800 to book through the company. Thanks so much ladies!
  5. Welcome! ROR will be awesome!
  6. Hi there - welcome to the forum! You'll be addicted to the page in no time!!
  7. Nice to see so many Canadian brides!! My FI and I both grew up in Calgary, but have been living in Edmonton for 6 years and counting! We are planning our DW in Maui May 2010. Anyone else headed to Hawaii?
  8. Definitely dress number 1 from both front and back. The neckline is very flattering on you...and your bum looks good from the back. =)
  9. Hey there, welcome to the forum and an early congrats!! =) You'll be totally prepared by the time he pops the question!

    I'm New!

Welcome to the forum! I'm pretty new too, but this place is full of help and totally addictive!
  12. Welcome and congrats! The beginning part is fun but I totally empathize with how hard it is. It's such a catch 22 - you feel like you need to details to tell people, but you also need to know where everyone is at before you can know where to start looking! I would start with you two and your budget. Really ask yourself where you can imagine getting married and perhaps honeymooning. Then see if it's realistic for both your budget and those people who are most important for you. One thing I found really helpful was making a spreadsheet to make comparisons between different resorts, not only by comparing pricing, but seeing if things you really want are even included! In the end, I didn't even choose a resort!
  13. Yay! That's the perfect outcome then. =) It's going to look beautiful!
  14. Welcome!! This site is going to be super helpful for your planning!!
  15. Hi ladies, My first post in the Maui section!! I've booked Honua Kai Lani (Sugarman Estate) for our ceremony/brunch in the day and Spago (at the Four Seasons) for our dinner reception. After searching the site, I am a little scared because no one else seems to have booked those two locations. Did I miss something? Is there something amiss about these two spots?? Huey
  16. Isaac's cousin got married at the Seawatch so I asked him for you. =) They did their ceremony at 4:00 and the pictures were from 5 to 6:30, with dinner starting at 6:30. Despite doing everything at the Seawatch, they still think they would have preferred an earlier ceremony because the pictures were very rushed and they didn't get all that they wanted. In terms of timing --> apparently their bar starts at 5:30, so you probably want to start the cocktails then. But don't delay your dinner too late because the restaurant closes at 10 pm! Hope that gives you more of a timeline!!
  17. Oooh. Her work looks amazing! I know next to nothing about flowers - if I gave her some colours I like, do you think she could create a "look" for me?

When you say you think you made the wrong choice...do you mean in choosing your venue?? The wrong choice as in using Spago's as a reception, because I am still in love with the idea of an outdoor receptions under the stars. But I think budget wise, throwing an outdoor reception will be about $6000 more and it's just not worth it. Someone convince me that Spago's is better!!

We are getting married at Kalaeokai'a Estate in Kahana and then having our dinner reception at the 5 Palms on the patio. I love the idea of a private estate for the wedding, but it was definately cheaper to have a Reception at another venue... otherwise, I'd have a ton of rental fees. Whether to have the reception at the estate or elsewhere depends on your budget usually. Are you using a wedding coordinator? It's a huge help. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm totally torn! I love the bohemian style, even tried on one of the Wtoo dresses that are flowy and light. But at the same time, it's my chance to wear a more classic gown... I've heard lots about the Five Palms. What a beautiful spot! It just doesn't work for us because it's not quite where we want to be (south Maui). We are using White Orchid Weddings and it's been helpful! Who are you working with?

There are so many exciting options in Maui! Part of me almost worries that we made the wrong choice! I see you are doing a luau for your reception. I was leaning more towards hosting a catered outdoor event at Honua Kai Lani.... something you could have done at Olowalu Plantation House! What made you decide on the luau?

We have plans to get married at Honua Kai Lani/Sugarman Estate followed by a reception at Spago's. I think the latest project has been to find a dress and worrying that I might overheat! Everything else is still up in the air! How about you?
  23. How do I get my avatar to show? I uploaded it but can't see it!
  24. Hey everyone! Isaac popped the question last August and now we are really starting to plan! We've already decided on the date (May 22, 2010) and will be getting married in Maui! Love to get some advice from other brides....and swap dress pictures! This is so exciting!! Huey
