  1. YAY Flames fan!!!!!! I'm in Edmonton now, but I grew up in Calgary! Congrats!!
  2. Oooh welcome to another Canadian bride!! I would totally suggest St. Lucia. I was there last year and thought it was gorgeous. Very lush and definitely has a more small island feel. =) You'll love it!
  3. Congrats to another Canadian bride and welcome to your new addiction!
  4. Yay Canadians!! Welcome to the forum!! And enjoy this exciting time!

But that's definitely not to take away from Feast b/c I've heard so many great things about it too. It was a hard choice! I totally agree with jstinemari, your planning site is awesome!!!! We have a website too, but it's not quite a planning site (made more for visitors so they can RSVP and read up on the wedding etc). jstinemari: Sorry to rehash, but I was curious if things have settled yet with your MIL? If she's going to be stubborn, then yes you should ignore her and have your day. But I can understand why you've been unsettled about it. I had another thought...I wonder if we can SHARE sites. If two brides have their wedding on the same day and agree to share (one in the day, the other at night)...why couldn't we split the cost? It's just a thought. For example, renting the Olowalu can be up $3000. If you are using it just for the day, couldn't someone else rent it for their evening wedding/night reception?!?! Hmmmmmmmm.
  6. I just looked it up...20% chance of rain! It might just be a different forecaster...but there is hope!! =)
  7. What do you think about customizing vows? Some people want to cut the ceremony shorter, others (like us) want to add personal words. How flexible are the officiates?
  8. Just another quick thought. You mentioned bamboo canopies...do you mean those very simple arches? Why don't you get your WC to drape them in a slightly more durable fabric, but making sure the top is covered? Then you can have your bamboo canopies for dinner and fend off any short showers too...
  9. I hear that of all the Islands, the western most ones (Kauai) are suppose to be the rainiest (hence so LUSH!!). On Maui, the dryiest area is in Wailea/Kihei in the southwest. I don't think your guests will mind a sprinkle here or there, but you could always book a backup tent (a few hundred dollars). If you don't like the look of the ones that are covered, they do have the transparent ones.... But honestly, I am wondering the same thing, so if anyone else has good suggestions....
  10. I've heard a lot about Lori from Tropical Maui Weddings. It sounds like she is quite reasonable. I'm using White Orchid Weddings and I've been very happy with them (my person is Barb, but I think they have a number of different consultants). Another one I've heard about is A Paradise Dream Wedding. That being said, you'll need to compare "coordination fee". I have to admit, there is a sizeable percentage commission that they charge... but it will give you some ease of mind (or so I've been told)...lol. Good luck!!
  11. Congrats Lisa! Welcome to the forum and your brand new addiction!!
  12. Hey, welcome to the site! Come join us in the Maui section! There's going to be loads of information for you to sort out the details!
  13. Welcome!! I'm from Edmonton too!!
  14. I hope this isn't a silly idea... I noticed a cool thread in the general DW section where everyone's weddings are listed by date. I thought we could start something like that in the Maui section!!! It'll make it easier for us to know who all is getting married and for newbies to get ideas too... For both upcoming AND already married brides: Copy and paste the section below and add your details in chronological order! That way the very last post will always have all the information on it. Let's see if this works! ***** May 22, 2010: Huey + Isaac @ Honua Kai Lani + Spago
  15. Oh geez. I was waited with baited breath to see this "ordinary" dress and it's stunning!! It's even got the beautiful lacey bust that I love! You know, I think we just have so many options and ideas around that we are always on the look out for something better! I'm totally guilty of it too...I thought I found THE dress, then stupid me looked around a little more and I found another perfect dress. Now I'm stuck!!!
  16. Boy that is insane - so how are you going to figure out whose RSVP's those are!?
  17. First off...that dress is super sexy!! And because it has such a formal elegance to it, I'd think that a suit would be a better match, and tan would be a good colour - it matches white or ivory, AND it just has a good destination vibe!

    Hello!

Hey Veronica! Welcome to the forum! It's always great to have another Maui bride! There's lots of suggestions in the Maui section of the forum, so you'll find tons there. How far have you gotten on the planning?

    Newbie!

Congrats and welcome!! There are tons of possibilities. I remember when I was first deciding, I kept bouncing from one place to the next, always worrying about cost. But I think the most important part is finding the place that will make your wedding a fond memory! COME TO HAWAII!! I'd love to see more Maui brides. =) There are always ways to keep prices down, like getting a permit and being married on the beach, or having a package done at a restaurant! Actually I was on expedia a few nights ago and found that you can get a package for 10 days, flight + hotel, for $1200. That's not bad at all. If money is really an issue though, many of the places in Mexico and Costa Rica seem like a good choice because of the all inclusive deals. Another good way is to get married on a cruise. =) Best of luck!
  20. YAY! Another Maui bride!! It's awesome to have you! There's lots of good stuff here, just post in the Maui section and let us know if you need anything!
  21. I'm debating between harpist, guitar, violin etc etc...just looking for a soloist for when we walk down the aisle. (A string quartet is too much for us!) The question is...will all the beautiful music get drowned out by waves!? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  22. I'm sorry about the cancellation. =( I totally remember this dress. I tried it on a few weeks ago and it's gorgeous. It's airy light and has a romantic feel. Hope it works for you Lara!!
  23. Since I've done the research, in case anyone else finds this helpful... - PRIVATE DINING ROOM: There's a private dining room off to one side of the restaurant that looks like it has pretty open views of the ocean. The PDR buyout right now is $6000. Can hold dance floor plus 70 guests or so, more if no dance floor. - LANAI: This is the balcony that wraps around the side of the restaurant, and also has a buyout of $6000, but it is the back part of the balcony (is covered). No dance floor or audio-visual equipment. - POINT of the LANAI: This is the very tip of the balcony, completely unobscured with great views and no stragglers walking through, but seats only 40 and has a buyout of $10000. - RESTAURANT BUYOUT: I have no idea. Really pricey I'm guessing. Huey PS. April - do you have any food recommendations?!?!
  24. Our wedding coordinator has moved us on to picking an officiant!! We want someone who is warm and kind (not overbearing or too dramatic) to do a non-religious ceremony. WC suggested: - Alapaki - Tino Rosete - Pia Aluli I was wondering if any of you ladies have worked with them before? Or perhaps have someone else you want to rave about?? Thanks in advance!
