  1. I had the same shoes Pam!
  2. I used The Knot for my website and I would NOT recommend it. It was glitchy, hard to foramt and messed up half the stuff I posted. I wish I used Wedding Window!
  3. Weird! This thread was originally under "BDW Get-togethers" but now it's under "Random Thoughts" in the Chit Chat Corner. I guess we're more chit-chatty than get together?
  4. We used the resort DJ and he was great. No stress, no mess, just good tunes!
  5. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! (No offence to your friend). The title doesn't matter, it's about supporting the bride on her big day!
  6. I used the resort DJ as well for the same cost ($210 x 3 hrs) plus the lowest level bar so it worked out to be around the same price that Jazmin quoted you amiesmiles. The DJ was fantastic and very accommodating of my guests numerous requests!
  7. Hi ladies! I'm the bride that Angie chatted with regarding the video. I'm going to see if I can figure out how to upload it so you girls can check it out. There are a of couple things that I'm not thrilled with but I don't want to my personal nit-pickiness to influence decisions without actually seeing it! Angie - my video is actually quite similar to the one you posted! Unfortunately, the videographer arrived after I was done getting ready so we did a few posed kind of shots instead. There's one scene that bugs me just because it was a goofy moment that I wish she didn't include: she told me to smile at my flowers so I thought she meant "look at your flowers like you're admiring them". Turns out she said "smell your flowers" but I misunderstood her accent! I said "oh!" and brought the flowers up to my face quickly...she has that whole clip on the video! I totally laugh at it now but I wanted more of a romantic lovey-dovey video and I find it more cheezy/funny...but that could just be my opinion, someone else may think it's totally romantic!
  8. For the poolside reception, you pay for the DJ and the bar set up per person. This is what I was quoted when we were planning (which was over a year ago...man time flies!): Open Bar / extra charge Special Cocktail Sparkling wine, Beer, Margaritas, Piña Colada 5 USD /Pers extra hour 3 USD /Pers (so for 3 hours, this works out to $11 per person) National Bar: Beer, Rum, Vodka, Tequila, Cocktails, Gin 17 USD/pers/hour extra hour: 12 USD/pers International Bar: Beer, Tequila, Rum, Vodka Absolute, Whisky JW, Chivas Regal, Cutty Sark, Cocktails, Gin Beefeaters, wine of the house, sparkling wine 24 USD/pers/hour extra hour: 18 USD/pers
  9. We had wanted the Brazilian restaurant too because we thought it would be such a unique way to have a wedding dinner but they told us the same thing. The Portofino worked out wonderfully though and a bunch of us went to the Brazilian al a carte another night instead. We had been given the same bar prices for the reception but when we met with Karla she didn't even ask us what level we wanted. We had planned to go with the lowest level (beer, wine, margaritas) since the snack bar is literally a 30 sec stroll from the pool if our guests wanted something else. When the party started we noticed that we had a fully stocked bar and at the end of our trip when we received the bill, we weren't charged any more than what we had expected...I honestly don't know how much they charged us for the bar! I would highly recommend the poolside reception. Absolutely worth the cost. However if it's not in your budget, I've heard of other wedding parties just going to one of the other bars on the resort and still having a great time.
  10. I ordered my bm dresses from J.Crew and they worked out great. We had to exchange a few sizes but they have such an excellent shipping policy it wasn't a problem - you only pay for shipping once, it doesn't matter how many times you send it back! A couple of the girls had a few minor alterations done here and they all looked fab.
  11. Hi Kat! Do not fret, Karla is amazing! Communication over email is slow since the WC's are rarely sitting at their desks. But when we met with Karla at the resort, she had everything we had discussed and accommodated any of our requests. She let us know that she couldn't be there on the actual day but she had Jazmin there as well who was completely filled in on all of our plans. We stayed at the Coba as well and you have your choice of any of the wedding locations, including the Akumel beach location by the hammocks. I highly recommend the Tulum gazebo since it's right out on the beach but you have a stone pathway (but I'm biased since that was my wedding location!). Our ceremony was completely in English. Hope that answers some of your questions!
  12. Lindslou - head to outlets! We picked up my hubby's outfit this time of year last year at the MEXX outlet in Westhills. They usually still have plenty of their summer collections and at really cheap prices. We bought his whole suit for $100.
  13. The transportation from the airport to the hotel was included in our package with Air Canada Vacations...hope that answers your question!
  14. You know, I actually considered becoming a broadcaster in high school mainly because someone would dress me and do my hair and make up everyday! hahaha
  15. Those are your TTD earrings! Gorgeous! Wear them! I don't typically walk around in big white dress with a photographer following me around either, but I did on my wedding day! Anything goes!
  16. There's a gym there?? Just kidding, I know there's one there but I certainly never saw it.
  17. The resort DJ was great. He just asked us what kind of music we like and he took all the requests from our group. It was a fantastic time! I'll warn you though, we had the reception for 3 hours and it went by SO FAST!
  18. We didn't plan any excursions for guests since we had such a variety of interests...blah, blah, who am I kidding, we couldn't afford it. But we did let our guests know which ones we were planning on doing and welcomed them to join us (at their expense). We ended up taking a dozen people with us zip lining! So fun! It's totally up to you though. I would have loved to take everyone out on a catamaran for the afternoon but it just wasn't in the budget.
  19. So excited for you girls! I wish I could do it all over again! As for the dinners, I wouldn't stress too much about it. The restaurants are all gorgeous and have fabulous food. A typical wedding dinner at home would only have two selections for an entree so I think that's reasonable for the resort to offer the same thing. And it's ONE meal out of your guests' whole vacation so if they're really not satisfied they can just head to the buffet or snack bar before the dance starts! I only had two meal selections for mine and not one guess complained...actually they raved about the food!
  20. Hi! I had my AHR back in May at the Highwood Community Centre and used Great Events for food, tables, and some decor. If there's anything specific you'd like details on, let me know!
  21. Yay! Congrats on booking your date tropicalbride! We worked with Jazmin on the day of our wedding and she was fantastic! Fire away with questions!
  22. Weird! It worked when I first posted it but now I'm getting a "system error" too. I'll try again... Â Page 1:
  23. Be sure to check out the thread for this resort as well: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/786/gran-bahia-principe-akumal-tulum-coba-post-here/3260 So much information and all the past & future brides to answer questions!
  24. I would definitely recommend the poolside reception! Even with a smaller group it would be great to have your own private party. And it's really not that much more money considering you just pay per head to have the private bar set up and a DJ if you want. Â The Hacienda is definitely fun for all ages. Like Trisha said, there's live music and latin dancing in the courtyard and tons of tables to sit and watch the action. We had our whole group in the disco after our reception was over and everyone had a blast!
