  1. I laughed at the "have your FI wear" part. I thought I'd have to pick out his outfit for him but he insisted he would dress himself and his boys. I've got to admit, he has good taste! He hated the look of linen suits, he said they were too casual. He ended up picking out a tan suit with a fine satin pin stripe from MEXX (it was on sale for $130!).
  2. Cara, I have some good friends in New Brighton and Mackenzie town so we're always doing the commute from far NW to far SE! You house sounds exactly like the one we bought! Corner lot, bonus room, everything.
  3. I don't think we're too far from you! Just up Coventry Hills Way, past the park. Too funny. The commute downtown has been hard for me to get used to. We moved from Westgate in the SW and I could get from my door to my desk in 20 mins...now it takes me about 45!
  4. Congrats Cara! It's the best! We just moved into our first home right before Christmas. It's so fantastic having your very own place! We bought in Coventry Hills. You?
  5. So excited for you! Post lots of pics when you return for us GBP girls! Hope you have the best time!

The daughter of one of my mom's friends is a graphic designer who does corporate work but she used to do wedding invitations and offered to do mine. So she designed the layout, I'm printing them on photopaper, mounting them on card stock, adding a little bling and DONE!
  7. I just approved the final proof for my semi-DIY invites. I'm very happy with them! Hoping to send them out near the end of February I think.
  8. By "booking together" I mean booking back-to-back sessions not like a group photo or anything...hahaha. I know she does "marathon" sessions and I think the fee is $100 instead of $150. I remember her package prices being resonable and you could also purchase a CD with all the un-edited photos which appealed to me since a friend of mine can do the editting for me. I was thinking of doing a session sometime in March so if anyone else is interested I'll start looking into the group thing more seriously!
  9. Oh man, that was my worst fear. We booked with Air Canada vacations so we knew our flights WAY ahead of time, like back in September! My TA told us they are the least likely to change flight times so hopefully everything stays the way it is! That's awesome though if you can rebook for cheaper! Good luck girls!
  10. I think I saw that same male photographer at the Taboo show...I didn't really get a great vibe from him and yes, he was SUPER expensive. I think I posted earlier on this thread about Tait Photography since that was the one I was looking at too. I really liked her work and she was super sweet when I saw her at Taboo. If there are a few of us Calgary girls that book a session together, I think we can get a decent discount too!
  11. Now I feel bad that we turned a bunch of you off of going to the Bridal Fair! If you've never been to one, go. It's like a bride's right-of-passage. I figure every bride should experience the bridal madness and at least laugh at how crazy some girls can get! You might actually find some really good deals on stuff and can take advantage of some of the exclusive offers. I set up my registry for The Bay and Home Outfitters there and they gave me a free $25 gift card for each store. Grab some girlfriends, have lunch and make a day of it.
  12. I agree with that! A dress can look completely different on the hanger! Mine is proof of that. I hated it when I saw it! That's another reason I would want FI to see it hung up somewhere. Wouldn't want him to think "THAT's the dress she chose??" haha

He said he wants the first time he sees me that day to be at the end of the aisle. So cute. PS: We have the same date!
  14. Thanks for the honest review! Sounds like you got a bit of bad luck. The kind of stuff all us DW'ers fear! I can totally see how the weather could really dampen the mood (pun totally intended). No one wants to go on vacation and have to sit inside all day! And what a nightmare with Sunquest! I just don't understand how things can get that screwed up! Sorry to hear it wasn't your dream wedding week but it sounds like you had a great wedding day anyways!
  15. I'm so jealous! Your website is awesome! This would cost a fortune to hire a company to do it for you. You're so lucky!

  17. haha Christina...I enjoyed the "bride" sticker too.
  18. I plan on sending mine next month too. I'm just sending mine to the people that said yes or are still on the fence, and I'm sending AHR invites to everyone. FI thinks it's pointless to send them to those that said no. Actually he thinks it's pointless to send them to those that said yes too since they've already booked! Basically he thinks it's a waste of money but he lost that battle.
  19. I agree. I went to the one last September and it was great for planning my AHR but other than that, not much help for a DW unless you're looking for a travel agent. If you do go, make sure you go in the afternoon and avoid some of the bridal madness! I have my first dress fitting today! So excited!
  20. Oh I know exactly what you mean! In the last 6 months I've gotten engaged, bought my first car (my sweet 16 birthday gift finally bit the dust...haha), paid off my student loan, bought a house and I should be hearing any day about a new job. Big changes! It certainly feels odd having all these "adult" responsibilities! What happened to the days when the only expenses we worried about were cell phone bills, gas money and 25 cent draft!
  21. I'm having mine 5 days after we get back! We return on a Sunday and are having our AHR the following Friday. We thought the same thing, we didn't want to lose the wedding momentum! We're just having carribean themed appetizers instead of a full dinner to make it more casual, and having a DJ and open bar. Ours in is May and around here that could mean 20 degrees or a blizzard.
  22. 11 months for me. I couldn't imagine having a long engagement considering we've already been together for almost 10 years! I think you're ideas are a great start. I wouldn't worry about formally sending out STDs yet, maybe just word of mouth regarding plans for a DW. As for quotes, I found most vendors/venues don't have prices available more than a year before the date. And even resorts can change ownership between now and then so keep browsing and bookmark ones you like so you can have your top 5 ready in about a year. Like LadyTrunck said, you may find your opinions change over 2 years!
