I'm so glad I'm not the only one with complaining guests... My favorite so far has been "Fiji - but it is so politically unstable overthere - they had a coup in 2000 you know" Political instability... 10 years ago! What a great reason not to go to the other side of the country for a holiday - which wasn't even effected when they were having the coup!! people will find any excuse

oh my gosh - I'm so glad you decided on dress four... I immediately loved four the best and I held my breath hoping as I read through all the threads that you chose it. I think it will be amazing on you. I thinks a sweetheart neckline is beautiful and could help you to feel a little sexy too Now I dont know if I missed it somewhere - but who designed that dress!! I can't wait to see your photos when you recieve it... I think im in love

Hi Ladies... I just got this via email and I thought it was really funny... Random thoughts from people 20-35 years old - More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me. - Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realise you're wrong. - I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they've invented the lighter? - Have you ever been walking down the street and realised that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk. - I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger. - Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with? - Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft. - There is a great need for sarcasm font. - Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realise I had no idea what the f*** was going on when I first saw it. - I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it. - How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet? - I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in. - I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die. - LOL has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say". - I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger. - Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart". - How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said? - I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a dick from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers! - Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies". - What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other? - While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart. - Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died. - I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water. - Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever. - I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired. - Bad decisions make good stories. - Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning that just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do! - Is it just me or do high school girls get slu.ttier & slut.tier every year? - If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible. - Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem … - You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day. - Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection. - There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far. - I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to. - "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever. - I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?' - I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dammit!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Throw the phone and run away in the opposite direction? - I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste. - When I meet a new girl, I'm terrified of mentioning something she hasn't already told me but that I have learned from some light internet stalking. - I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes. - Why is a school zone 25 km/h? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for paedophiles... - As a driver I hate pedestrians and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists. - Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is. - I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call. - Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, hitting the G-spot, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my a$s everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time... - My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the hell do I respond to that? - I wonder if cops ever get pi$sed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit. - I think the freezer deserves a light as well. - The other night I ordered take away and when I looked in the bag, saw they had included four sets of plastic cutlery. In other words, someone at the restaurant packed my order, took a second to think about it, and then estimated that there must be at least four people eating to require such a large amount of food. Too bad I was eating by myself. There's nothing like being made to feel like a fat ba$tard before dinner.

Contest for FREE wedding photography!
Jo 2010 replied to dellafiora's topic in Destination Wedding Vendor Marketplace
Congrats Allison!!!!!!!!!! -
Thought I would bump this up to see if anyone else has ordered and recieved their wedding dress yet? The pictures are soooo helpful - you girls almost have me convinced! I am in love with about 7 dresses at the moment - which makes me think that i'm probably not that fussy and will be happy with whatever they send me! I had my first dress shopping experience last weekend - and I thought I was going to be all about the flowy dress - turns out I much prefer the ones that my fitter MADE me try on, just for comparison! Now I love the corset dresses with the empire and A-line skirts. Island bride - I was nervous about ordering one with lace until I saw yours - I think they did an amazing job!
-
hmmm I would try and find something similar yo try on - and if not all in one dress - then in seperate dresses. The neckline in 4884 is really similar to alfred angelo 755 - the low plunge is something you will want to try on - i thought I would feel sexy and great in it - then tried it on and felt self concious and exposed! Eden Bridals 1363 - I would look for a similar bridesmaid dress - that shape is similar to some of the bridesmaid styles I have see - it will give you an OK idea of the shape - yours of course is beautiful with the lace detail! Personally I like 4884 - the top reminds me of waves

no way! a wedding is your day to do what-ever-the-hell-you-want! I've been to wedding before, and had such a great time that I didn't even realise they didn't do certain traditional elements. Not until the next day when mum asked who caught the bouquet! It was such a blast - and really reflected the couple. I think its awful when the wedding doesn't reflect the couple. Some friends of ours are very very laid back couple, been engageged for 5 years, bbq and beers friends, and at the request of parents had a really really formal wedding - and they just looked uncomfortable! and it made the guests uncomfortable too. I think there is nothing better at a wedding than seeing the bride and groom have an absolute blast! Actually I think you have inspired me to cut some things too! I never even thought to cutting the first dance. we like dancing together, but are the WORST dancers in the world - we would much rather have a quietintimate moment with each other dancing then having everyone staring! You go girl! Who knows where I'll stop now! No cake!

ooo this is really cool - so loved reading all of yours. I never knew other people don't dream in colour!! That would be so weird! I dream in colour, and remember all of the details - so vividly that I will sometimes get into arguements with FI about stuff in my dreams so, my list: 1. I grew up as a Catholic - I was even an alter server in the local church - but now im not sure what I believe. 2. I am in love with my house - Fi and I bought right on the waterfront, but soon after we start a family, we will outgrow it - and I just know I will be devestated! 3. I used to be a big reader - and loved it, now I watch TV - which makes me sad to think about it, but I dont think I could give up my TV shows! 4. I studied Psychology for four years and just before I was due to graduate, one of my best friends killed himself. They passed me for my final exams out of pity (and guilt i guess - he studied psych with me), but from that day on, I knew i could never be a psychologist. I have never told my parents, but i guess they know since my break from post grad studies has now been 6 years. 5. and a sappy one for last - I never believed in fate until I met FI. We met on the other side of the world (France) in a beginners snowboarding class, then again in a pub in London a month later, then again a week later in another pub - then we finally clicked and exchanged numbers

Hi Jen There are a couple of ways fo doing it. If you would like to do it yourself - there are various templates psted in other threads - from what I gather using a program like photoshop is easiest - if you already have it and know how to use it - although you can use powerpoint to do it too. There are also vendors - on this site - who will do it for you, they customise the colous and dates and names on their standard monograms (very economical way of doing it) or will design a custom one. I'm sure there are other vendors on here, but I have looked at Allurements by Rebecca Allurements by Rebecca and Sproulile Designs Sproullie Designs - Home loved the logos on their website - if you google wedding monogram you will find heaps of vendors online. My friend is a graphic design student, and so she is doing it for me as a wedding present But trust me, if I didn't have such a talented friend, I would totally be getting someone to do it for me Good luck - for inspiration and ideas check out the monogram/logo threads on here - i think there is one called "show us your monogram" or something like that...

Help! Bridesmaid Gifts!
Jo 2010 replied to ddiinnyyeell's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Photoflip books from Vista print - you have just enough time to get them ordered and delivered - all your favorite photos together and special memories - then on the last page, something like - You have been such a special part of my life. Your friendship has made me who I am today, and I am so proud to have you stand beside me as I enter the next stage of my life. Then I was going to do anklets, flip flops and some massage oil... Then their own special OOT bag with lots of little extra items - like a mini perfume chosen for them, makeup remover etc etc -
I am tring to resist the temptation to do too much too soon. Destination weddings are really uncommon in Australia, so we sent out our save the dates in January of this year! We will send invites as soon as all the details are sorted - but then I worry about them getting put to the side with all the craziness of Christmas... So I haven't decided if we will wait until January - I think that will probably be better. Then we will send a reminder postcard about end of July (thats the end of our winter so a good time to remind them about our lovely summer holiday to fiji ! ) I have a mass of ideas - so i guess its good that we have some time - I want to do painted parasols etc etc. I have the BM dresses - got them for a bargin in the boxing day sales last year! and they are multicolour patterned dresses - so all of my colours and planning are coming off that. I had my first wedding dress shopping day on Saturday - its was crazy - I am plus size and I can't believe the lengths she went to to get me into dresses! She was cutting seems and unpicking the bustle! but it was so good to be able to see so many styles on! I went in with a set idea of what I wanted - and of course, what I now like (suggested by my fitter) is nothing like what I had in mind!! But great great experience, but I dont want to decide just now - I think around January I want to put in the order - that still gives me plenty of time to get the dress in, and get any alterations done... I go on my site visit October this year - so thats when I will confirm everything with the hotel, and organise the deals for our guests. I've started working on my wedding website Darren & Jo - wedding website by mywedding.com My friend is designing my monogram, she is on the other side of the country, so this is a slow process, which is good - coz that means its slows me down too. But at least thats a start. Photography is my big concern at this stage. I haven't come across a local photo that im happy with, so im looking into other options. I'm actually coming around to my mum's idea of not having a photographer, and just getting a couple of my friends who are amatuer photos to take photos - her theory is that have 400 spectacular photos is amazing - but you only really could ever use a handful of them - so all you really need is a handful of stunning photos... anyway, we will see how that goes...

HELP! Who designs this dress??
Jo 2010 replied to Jo 2010's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
oh my god! thank you so much lil reeves!!! bdw is amazing and! they have stockists in Australia! -
you girls are the best Thanks for all the support. She came over the next day with her tail between her legs and changed the sheets - left them in the laundry sink insted of putting them straight in the wash - but have to be happy with little victories. FI chewed her out about all of it, and told her that we wont have someone disrespectful in our bridal party. She swears she has learnt her lesson and will never do it again. She is still in the bridal party at this stage, but on probation i guess She has also given back the keys to our house, and said that she hopes to earn our trust back - so at least she is saying all the right things - whether she means it or not is a completely different matter! You guys were definately right - it had to come from FI - and I'm pretty happy with the result. We all went out for dinner last night for FMIL's 50th birthday, and I was civil, it will be a long time before we will be buddy-buddy again - but I do have to keep in mind how close she is to my FI - she really does adore her brother and I think she will be very upset that he told her off, they were over it last night, and im glad about that... I do have niggling doubts - someone who always puts themselves and what they want first, will probably always be like that...
-
Ooops! OK, so yeah - I have done that before, even before FI and I got engaged - but it was tooo cute and I was on holidays in Norway - I didn't think I would ever find anything like it again Would you ever... help organise your FI's buck night?
-
hmmm for money - no.. I think I would do it to help out a childless family tho - but I couldn't do it for someone I would know or see - it would have to be a random. Would you ever... help organise your FI's buck night?

With the cards from my sister's wedding my mum made a quilt - you have to be pretty into quilting as it was a mountain of work - but basically she used a colour photocopier to transfer the designs and writing to special fabric, then used left over fabric from the wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses, as well as other fabrics that fit in with the theme to made a big quilt. She was able to encorporate little bits and peices too - like the memory charm from her bouquet too. Something different to do anyway! and the final result is absolutely beautiful!

Between Ceremony & Reception
Jo 2010 replied to robinkar's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Thats such a good question. We might be facing a similar situation. I am concerned about everyone getting completely trashed too in all the waiting around. If it came to it, we were thinking of having a cocktail 'hour' which is actually more like three hours - but working with the hotel to provide a very low alcohol cocktail - everyone is drinking and socialising, having a good time, but not a lot of alcohol is actually being drunk - more like a fancy punch - and also having finger food circulating during the time, so people are eating little bits and peices (we would then skip entrees at the reception and just have a main meal and dessert). Just a thought. Low alcohol cocktails (or even mocktails) will be cheaper too! bonus -
He was in no state to comment after his grand final loss - I dropped him off this morning at 'mad monday' - I'm not sure if you guys have that in the US/canada but the day after a sunday grandfinal all the guys in the whole league go out drinking together - our whole town becomes overrulled 200+ with drunk men dressing in team costumes - so this morning I dragged FI out of bed, put on his school uniform (their theme is the school yard) and dropped him at the team breakfast at their ground at 8am. I will get a very sheepish call at about 8pm tonight or so to come and get him. Believe me, as soon as he is sober enough - there will be words. As for his sister - she has done it to him so often (one night stands with team mates) that it doesn't bother him (irritates the hell out of me tho!) I think its at the point where he loves her, but has so little respect for her in that way that he finds it funny.

OH. MY. GOD. I am so furious at my bridesmaid right now I sweat I must have steam coming out of my ears So yesterday was my FI's football grandfinal (he lost) and all the team and wifes/girlfriends and supporters went back to their team club for drinks and dinner. My BM who is also FI's sister also came. all the girls left around 2am - except her who drank on with the boys through the night - which is fine - except she ALWAYS ends up going home with one of them for the night. It happened at his old club, more than once, it happened when he playing in England, and now its happening again at his new club. BUT, last night she decided to bring him home TO OUR HOUSE! She decided to spend her money on a brand new car insted of moving out of home (25 years old and living with FI's parents) and now she is treating the home that my FI and I work our a$$es off to pay off - like a cheap motel!! I am so mad - those sheets she defiled were an expensive engagement present from a close friend - when we have our first child - that will be the baby's nursery! I am so furious at her complete lack of respect. Our home is about our future and not somewhere wheer she can bring a one night stand! Plus - where she is living right now is 10 minutes from home - and FI's teammate lives 5 minutes away - they could have gone there - but no. PLUS! at 6:30am, she, still drunk, took FI's car, without asking, and drove the guy home, then came back and went back to bed at our house!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry ladies, but we are in a vent or explode situation here... Thanks for listening!

How did you choose your bridesmaids??
Jo 2010 replied to bholthof's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I know its a little untraditional - but what if you had your mum? Then at least eveyone is family - and you can explain to your friends that you couldn't pick them and you wanted to do something special for your mum... They can't get made at you choosing your own mother over them...? I dont know how you would feel about it - but its best to consider the outside-the-box options too in a dilemma like this! luck!! xx
