Just thought we should start a thread for all the October 2010 brides out there! I feel so lucky to have found this forum now, so hopefully I will have time to get to all the amazing and inspiring ideas people have put in the forum! Well, our save the dates were sent out with the Thank you notes from our Engagement party (back in Jan 2009) lots of notice I know - but not many girls do destination weddings in Australia so I need to educate everyone and give them enough time to organise themselves We are getting married on October 20th (in Australia we write the date dd/mm/yyyy so it is 20-10-2010) in Fiji So where are you getting married and what October date?

My FI's Insanely Creative Proposal
Jo 2010 replied to sunsetbride1's topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
OH MY GOD! That is just the sweetest proposal! -
Well, I thought since I was getting such delight out of your engagement stories - I may as well post mine. Darren and I met in a beginners snowboarding class in December 06 on holidays in La Plagne, France. I broke my arm after the first couple days and spent the rest of the time in hospital! But luckily we were both living in London at the time and ran into each other in an Aussie Pub on Australia Day (Jan 26th, oh and by the way, we are both from Australia). From then we started dating, and without the complications of meeting families or anything like that, moved in together and started travelling together around europe and America. ANyway, I'm off the topic, but two years later afetr we had settled back in Australia (turns out we grew up only an hour away from each other - not bad for meeting on the other side of the world!) and he was taking me away to sydney for the weekend to celebrate my 25th birthday. We decided to drive the long way (allong the coast insted of the shortcut on the highway) and we had a little tiff about him going the long way and wasting time - little did I know that he was planning on stopping at the most beautiful lookout up the coast and had a ring in his pocket! So on the way (after our tiff) it started pouring down with rain, and he pulled into the lookout and said he had to use the bathroom (cue another mini-lecture from me about going before we left). You could not see anything at the lookout - it was pouring with rain and the fog had set in, less than a metre visibility, so he got out of the car and put on a CD - with my favourite song playing - me still absoloutely clueless and annoyed at all the mucking around, started flicking through the CD to see what else was on it (FI standing outside the car in the pouring rain waiting for me to put it back on the song he had picked to propose to - "lucky i'm in love with my best friend" by Jason Mraz). Finally I put it back on the right song, so he comes round to my side of the car, and slips in a massive puddle - soaking wet, muddy and in a puddle, he pulled out a ring and exasperatedly said "Do you want this or not!!". Totally shocked I got out of the car and he asked me to marry him properly. I figure, if he still wanted to marry me after all that then he's definately a keeper!

Ideas needed
Jo 2010 replied to Love3's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
eek! I think im going to have to go with the other girls on this one - it will be a LOOOONG day for you, but do a sunrise shoot in a cheap TTD, then get ready for you wedding after that. The light at sunrise is amazing... -
hmm, thats a really difficult situation. Seems like there was so much back and forth, that your FI is more annoyed about this coming up again, then anything to do with your sister. I think he is more frustrated by the fact that he thought this was sorted and issue closed and now you want to open it again. He has made some very sweet points about the two of you in the ceremony. I think you need to think about why you want your sister to be a bridesmaid - what is it about that role/position that makes you want her in it - -is it the status (she is then a member of importance in the bridal party, you are recognising how special she is in your life by going out of your way to include her in your special day) - if this is it, then having her do a reading could be a really good compromise. It makes her a special part of your ceremony. -is it the support that you get from having her with you (all women get nervous, not necessarly about the 'marriage/cold feet' but definately about everything going smoothly, or being up there in front of everyone - if support is the reason you want your sister to be bridesmaid, then maybe thats the way you need to talk about it with your FI. I think it will be easier for you to consider a compromise if you know the reason why you want her as BM.

My FI and I were just having this discussion... Thinking back at all the weddings I've been to - I cant even rememebr the cake being cut at most of them - let alone remember it as a special moment. I dont think we will be having a cake - maybe a nice fluffy pavolva with tropical fruit! Your brownie bar will be something special and memorable!

Real vs. Fake flowers- your opinions?
Jo 2010 replied to KJT1985's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
so glad that there are other girls in this dilemma too. I'm getting married in Fiji - and the frangapani is their main flower - which I LOVE, however last year my sister used it as the whole theme for her wedding... So, that leaves me with paying triple for orchids, or getting fake flowers. I was leaning towards fake, but then people were looking at me like im a freak for not using beautiful fresh flowers -
In a dilemma - need your opinion!!
Jo 2010 replied to Mrs.Hockey's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I totally agree with the other girls. I think it was appropriate for her to come round and give you the invitation - especially considering how obious it was that you were 'B' list invites! But no way ask you to be such a vital part of the reception at such short notice. Its really rude, and to me, it would kinda feel like the only reason you got the invite was so that she could get you to MC. Surely her fiance must have a mate who likes the sound of his own voice? -

Advice on guests and events
Jo 2010 replied to azulskies's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
We are going over this October (wedding isn't until next October) to plan a list of activities. We are going to provide guests with an itinerary of what we are doing to whole time, and they are free to join in or skip whatever. So far all the options are below (we have a busy trip planned this year!!) and we will narrow it down after we try them all A sailing cruise around the north islands Welcome Barbeque A Shark dive Cocktail Afternoon before the wedding (early night) Shopping trip Volcano Hike Wedding recovery session/Pool party Jetski safari to southern islands Golf Day We have asked our guests to come on holiday with us, so we want to be available to them - however they are on their own holiday too so have the freedom to do whatever they like. Most people are planning to arrive 3-4 days before and staying 4-5 days after so we have a while to play with... Once we get it all finalised I will be begging for creative wedding themed titles for all the activities -
