Wedding Dress Alterations - RANT!!
Tam replied to Jocy's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Quote: Originally Posted by Stamperamma Jocy I am sorry this happened. I went through a very similar situation. My seamstress swears I have lost weight so much so that the dress I bought cannot be altered to fit. I did not loose any weight and I really did have a fit with her. We found another store that had a dress that would fit me 4 sizes smaller. What was she thinking. The store allowed us to exchange the dress. Then I need straps added because the dress is a heart neckline and I am not comfortable without straps. I want the straps to crossover in the back, she says okay, the new dress only needs to be hemmed and the straps added. I go back two weeks later, straps are to short and have not been added like I wanted, she tells me we did not have that conversation. The dress requires another week to add new straps, does she finish the ends, no she bunches them up and creates a pile of cloth to finish the ends. The straps still are not what I want and she has a bill of 175.00. Will I recommend the women no. All this to say I believe they order the dresses to large so they can make the money on the alterations. I am so sorry your experience was so terrible. Dea what bridal shop did you purchase from? Did you pay the bill even though they didn't do what you wanted? -

I really liked the effect as I all but lost my boobs when I did the show. The sew-in inserts may be your best option if your dress isn't tight enough to hold them in. jmmcauly; GORGEOUS DRESS. It looks like the on in the Sex in the City movie by Vivian Westwood. I love it! And I think that is so cool that you are a gym teacher. That must be an awesome job! Did you do Kin in school? Thanks guys for the links to the linens. Tam, how did you find the prices to canada for S&H? Those unit prices look really good! Pricing was Ok. It was about $15 to ship. It's already on its way too. I bought 5 table runners and 40 chair sashes for just under $50 + $15.. in US$. not too bad. What do you guys think of this dress I am going to get tomorrow for $40? Be honest.. not my first choice but good enough for a TTD, esp. for $40! Venus Bridals -

Ladies, what bra should I wear with my corset back dress? I am thinking I might not use the panel in it, since it would be more beachy... hehe BUT... I have the smallest boobs ever, so I wanna add a little oomph!! ideas? Nat, you can also get things like chicken cutlets sewn into the bust of your dress.. that's what I was thinking of doing... I have boobs, but don't want to worry about a bra/straps etc and my bridal shop said they'll do that at my last fitting. not sure of the cost though. -

wedding linens direct was a lot more expensive than thetableclothfactory.com for my table runners... almost double and I like the ones I ordered better. Just tried to order my mugs, and they're sold out of the ones I want!! ahhh. now I have to try to find more... oh well, not the end of the world, but a bit of a pain to figure out new ones. -

Ok, I just ordered them!! Hopefully they will be ok. For 40 black organza chair sashes and 5 black table runners + shipping it came to $62. Not sure if that's Cnd or Us. It didn't say... hopefully cnd. Now I have to move on to mugs and go work out... -

I think I might just order from them without a sample, but it's just because I'm getting black table runners and black organza chair sashes.. do you think that will be ok? -

My mom had a good idea last night for my table runners... because I will only need 5-6 tables, she said just to buy a black tablecloth and cut it into strips and then (she) would sew the edges to make it look like a runner... I am no martha stuart, so it won't be me doing it! -

I am assuming they dont provide that kind of thing do they.. or you get charged another $400 for it! And, has anyone thought of making your own chair sashes out of tulle? i saw some rolls of that at michaels and especially with a 50%off coupon, it could be pretty cheap.. not sure how much you would need though, but they had lots of colours. -

Since its free, who cares if we do both, right? Hehe Have you all thought about an activity for the groom and groomsmen in the morning on the day of the wedding? We have been batting around a few ideas of excursions that we know of: zipline, golf, and my favorite: its called Bavaro splash, and its 2-person speedboats! The guys would rive the boats themselves, then stop somewhere for snorkeling and then come back. Its a 3 hour trip I believe, and would be a good way to distract the boys hehe Hey Nat, How much do those excursions cost? They sound exactly like what my FI and his buddies would love... and then I don't have to worry about running into the FI. Can you send me any info you have? [email protected] -

I think its more personal if I hand them out then have them delivered to the room. I am only doing OOT bags for my wedding party though, everyone else is getting a travelmug.. which I forgto to order today... did my flowers though! -

Geez, I sound horrendously cheap...but I think it will have a nice unifying effect if they are handed out at that point and it is a nice way to just formally say thanks to everyone and make sure we all get in touch incase we don't get to with the craziness of the wedding. I know it would be really nice to hand the OOT bags once we get there, but I have to be honest/selfish when I say that I am going to hand out my bags before we go... I just dont have enough room to bring all that stuff down with me along with the centrepiece stuff and everything else... So I guess I am being cheap in two ways! Free to hand them out here and less in suitcase weight fees. -

We are also opting for the free rehersal dinner.. just the bridal party with nothing too formal but just to go over everything and have lots of drinks.. -
