  1. Brooke -- I really feel for you. I would be angry, too. I really don't understand your friends that got engaged and planned their site visit for 3 weeks before your DW. As for your former friend/bridesmaid, I guess you know where her priorities stand. So sorry you're having to deal with this stuff during what should be an exciting time... I have all my stuff laid out to pack. Even with a bigger suitcase, I think it's going to be a tight fit! I'm guessing my FI might have some extra room in his luggage, since he doesn't have to pack all the "girly" stuff I do!
  2. I haven't kept up the past few days, but congrats to newlyweds Susie, Julie, and Alison! Rayanne -- hope things work out. You could always do the legal stuff in AB first; that's what FI and I did, just to make it easier. We got a temporary copy of our certificate for our records, then I'll apply for our own copy when we return from Mexico. It stinks that you even have to worry about this. I wouldn't be thrilled with the FBIL, either. I'll add my name to the list, too, since it didn't make it on there the first time around: Susie: Gran Bahia Tulum, Jan. 27-Feb. 11, (wedding Feb. 2) Julie: Grand Cozumel Jan 31 - Feb 14 (wedding Feb 2) Alison: Beaches Negril, Feb 4-8 (wedding Feb. 6) Erica: Catalonia Riv. Maya, Feb 7-14 (wedding Feb. 10) Shelk: Rui Palaca, Riv. Maya, Feb 7-22 (wedding Feb 15) Timberly: Dreams, Los Cabos! Feb. 11- Feb. 16, (wedding Feb 14) Tesia: Occidental Grand Xcaret, Feb. 11-18 (wedding Feb. 16) Chris: Barcelo, Feb. 13-27, (wedding Feb. 18 ) Krista H: Feb. 14-Feb 28 (wedding Feb 18 ) TeNeil: GBP Tulum Feb 14-21 (wedding Feb 18 ) Breens: Barcelo Tropical, Feb 14 - Feb. 22 (wedding Feb 19) Rayanne: Gran Bahia Tulum, Feb 21 - Feb 28 (wedding Feb 25) Tricia: Moon Palace, Feb. 23-Mar. 4 (wedding Feb. 26) Brooke: Moon Palace, Feb. 24-Mar. 3 (wedding Feb 27) I'm so excited, only 5 more sleeps until we leave! I picked up my dress on Thursday and I am so happy with it. The seamstress did a fabulous job on the alterations. I also got my hair cut and coloured on Thursday. Last night was the stagette -- woo hoo! I managed to still function today despite the drinking last night, which was good, as I picked up a bunch of little things I needed for Mexico. And a bigger suitcase Back to my tasks for tonight -- finishing our playlist and doing thank-you cards for our vendors.
  3. Congratulations, Susie! I hope your wedding day was everything you wanted it to be!

  5. Happy Wedding Day, Susie!!! Congrats, Brooke! What is it with guests thinking that they can wait until the last minute to book their trip? We ran into the same situation with one of FI's friends who was supposed to be a groomsman. He waited until the past week to book, then realized he couldn't afford it because...drumroll...the prices went up. Going to pick up our wedding bands right now -- so excited!
  6. Krista H -- so sorry to hear about your grandma. My grandma's been gone for nearly 7 years now, but it's still sad to think she won't get to see me walk down the aisle. I know I will feel her presence, though. Sending you positive thoughts... Tricia and Teneil -- GREAT dresses, ladies! It's so fun to see what dress every one has picked out. You all look fantastic... Raykel -- thanks for the support re: dress fitting. Things went just fine for me last Thursday. The seamstress just has to do the bustle (difficult to do with a chiffon gown), then I can pick it up this Thursday. I can't believe how little time is left until I leave. I still have a few things to get done. Question for you Canadian brides -- for those vendors that don't take payment via credit card or money orders, how do you plan to pay? I don't like the idea of carrying around all that cash, either USD or pesos. It's not easy to get American travellers cheques in Canada, though... Can't believe February is HERE!!!
  7. The dress is absolutely beautiful! If that's the one you love, go for it! My dress is chiffon, which I wanted because it is flowy and light -- perfect for a DW!
  8. Raykel -- glad the dress worked out for you. I also think the tribute to your Dad you have planned sounds lovely. I know he will be there in spirit on your wedding day. Susie -- so excited for you! Shipping champagne - awesome! I can't believe we leave 2 weeks from today. I think I have nearly everything in order. I have appointments for hair and manicure planned. I have to pick up our wedding bands on Tuesday morning. Tonight is dress fitting #2; all I should have left to get done is the bustle for my dress. I'm a bit nervous, though, after reading about Raykel's dress drama... My FI is bumming big time right now, because one of his best friends, who was supposed to be a groomsman, called yesterday to say he can't come to Mexico. We kind of knew this may happen, but it doesn't hurt any less... Hope all the February brides are surviving -- it's almost time!
  9. I go away for a few days and I feel totally out of the loop! I'm so excited for everyone, now that February is almost here... You can add my name to the list, too: Occidental Grand Xcaret, Feb. 11-18, wedding February 16. Good luck and best wishes, Susie!
  10. Breens -- Congrats on your legal ceremony! I, like you, didn't realize that it would truly be a "ceremony" with vows, but it was pretty neat to have that. The Mexico wedding will still be so special, with so many of our friends and family, and the dress, and everything else, that I'm not too concerned about the legal day "taking away" from it. I guess 1/20/10 is special for both of us, now!
  11. Shouldn't matter what country either of you are from, you can still get legally married in Mexico, as long as you meet their requirements to be married (translating documents into Spanish, bloodwork, etc.). A lot of people get legally married in their country of residence first (in the case of you and your fiance, the US) to save the hassle of the paperwork, avoid medical tests, and save money. My fiance is Canadian and I am American, but we are living in Canada. I am here in a work visa, also. We did our legal paperwork (don't really want to call it a wedding -- that's in Mexico!) here in Canada and once we have our marriage certificate, I'll be sending a copy of it to Citizenship and Immigration Canada to go along with the paperwork I've already sent for my permanent resident status. If for no other reason than to save yourself a significant amount of money, you may want to consider legally marrying in your state before you jet off to Mexico... Best of luck, fellow American bride who fell in love with a Canadian!
  12. So sorry this happened to you. I agree with the other girls wholeheartedly -- you have every right to be upset, this is your wedding dress and your wedding day, and I think it's completely unprofessional of the staff at the bridal salon to shrug it off. I am assuming you signed a contract when you purchased the dress? I would read what it says in the contract about your obligations and theirs. It's possible you may not have to pay for alterations, but I'm not sure about a full refund on the dress. Also, do they have strict stipulations on what you must be have to do your alterations (undergarments, shoes, etc.)? The salon from which I purchased my dress has strict rules regarding this. They are not even supposed to proceed with a dress fitting if the bride comes without these items. It prevents them from being held responsible if a dress is not altered appropriately due to the wrong accessories being worn during the fitting. I agree with the others -- be polite yet firm. See what they can do for you. I really hope everything works out. If they can't fix the hem, I say go with an awesome pair of flat flip-flops. In the end, you have to do what's right to make you feel the best you can be on your special day. Best of luck!

I'm not necessarily superstitious, but want FI to be surprised. He told me the same. I've even asked a couple of times, "do you want to see my dress?" and he's given me an emphatic "No, I want to wait until our wedding day to see you in it."

I didn't think it would be so emotional, but it was. FI got all teary, which made me teary, then everyone was sniffling. We had a very nice evening. I'm thinking of it as practice for Mexico...
  15. Legal day today -- yay! I'm not nervous right now, but I think my heart will be pounding when we're actually doing the "ceremony". I just had the thought of "Wow, this is IT. I'm going to be legally wed." I'm still working on our wedding playlist, too. FI and I have our first dance song picked out; not sure if we'll do a father/daughter or mother/son dance yet.
  16. Beautiful clutches! I love Etsy. I got my wedding jewellry from an artist on Etsy, because I wanted something handmade and unique. Thanks also for the tan line prevention tips!

It is something kind of out of your control but if it was my wedding I would've flipped out. When my FI sees me walking down the aisle I don't want him to be distracted by some other womans boobies. We are having a sunset wedding at a private restaurant on the beach so hopefully we can avoid this kind of thing. Wow! What a story! I agree, though, I definitely wouldn't want to be the bride in that situation. Luckily, the beach at our resort is private, and we're actually having the ceremony in the wedding gazebo, so I'm not anticipating any partial nudity...
  18. I agree with all the other posts. If you're at an AI, there's plenty to do, and I think people will naturally pass the time visiting and relaxing. Our ceremony is at 11 a.m. and dinner isn't until 6:30, but I'm sure we'll be looking forward to the down time. I will probably get no sleep the night before and have to be up early to get my hair and makeup done, so I might wind up snoozing by the pool or on the beach until I have to get back into my dress for the reception!
  19. Krista H -- so sorry to hear about your grandma and everything your family is going through. I understand why you're feeling the way you are. When your wedding day arrives, I'm sure you will very happy and so thrilled to be marrying your love. By the way, your dress is beautiful! We confirmed our legal day -- this Wednesday, Jan. 20. It also happens to be my FI's brother and sister's (they are twins) birthday. We are having the paper signing at my FI's parents' house, then we will all go out for dinner to celebrate all the January birthdays (FI, FI's father, FSIL & FBIL). Nice!

  21. Congrats, Susie, on becoming a Mrs.! Shells, I'm so glad your bf can share your special day with you. Okay, so now my question is going to seem pretty ridiculous given all the heavy stuff you girls have been sharing, but I have had this on my mind now for the past day or two... How are you girls ensuring against getting weird tan lines? I know many are tanning ahead of time, but my concern is that my wedding day is like 4 days into my trip, and there's no way I can stay completely out of the sun until my wedding day. My dress has a deep V in both the front and back. Any suggestions? Not much left to do right now except confirm our legal date with wedding officiant. FI is supposed to be taking care of this... Have a marvelous Sunday, girls!

I'll bet you saw the pair of Aldo wedges that I initially tried to order from Amazon -- they were out of my size. However, I wound up finding a great pair of 2 1/8 inch silver wedge heels with rhinestones. Here is a link: Special Occasions Twi-Light Bridal Shoes I actually ordered mine from a different site, Best Bridal Prices. They were about the same price. I just had my first dress fitting a week ago and the shoes looked great with my dress, and I think they'll be pretty comfortable.

This is with a flash (better quality, but makes the dress shiny! lol) And this is me just showing off my shoes......... I have to say... I am really happy with my dress and very pleased with how much all the working out has done! So great to finally see results. Huge change from when I tried the dress on in October. I felt so hippy, lol The dress looks really wonderful on you -- very elegant. Oh, and I love the shoes! Raykel -- Sometimes I make short-term "to-do's" to organize my day, other times, I make loooong ones, like for the wedding! I can't believe I'm getting married a month from tomorrow!
  24. It's really a comfort to know that everyone is having the same thoughts as me and that I'm not the only one constantly thinking about the wedding and stressing over what I have left to do! I made yet another "to do" list yesterday; I'm queen of lists. Maybe it's the dietitian in me. We tend to be hyperorganized (anal, to be frank!)... I just got a tip on a great hair stylist, so I'm planning to book a cut and colour the first week of February. Stagette party Feb. 5 -- yay! Thinking about going swimsuit shopping this weekend while FI is working. I just hate trying on swimwear in the middle of winter when I'm pasty white. Ick. I've also been upping the ante on my workouts, like many others. Also started keeping a food journal, like I do with many of my clients, as I've found it really helps me stay on track with healthy eating. Hope everyone is having a good (or at least manageable) day!
  25. Susie, so sorry to hear about your situation. I will be thinking positive thoughts for all of you...
